“A Clean Heart”
Psalms 51:1-19
“...and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your
daughters, your wives, and your houses.” (Neh. 4:14)
“If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these
things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ,
nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine,”
(1 Tim. 4:6)
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph. 6:12)
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the
flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong
holds;)” (2 Cor. 10:3-4)

1. Be Honest About Your Sin.
-Rationalize“Woe unto them that call evil
good,...that put darkness for light,” (Isa. 5:20)
-Blame Game-Minimize
“For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against
thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:” (Psa. 51:3-4)
2. Confess Your Sin To God.
“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy
lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy
tender mercies blot out my transgressions.” (Psa. 51:1)
Forgiveness
“Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin...Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” (Psa. 51:2,7)
Cleansing
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a
right spirit within me.” (Psa. 51:10)
Renewal
Restoration
“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and
uphold me with thy free spirit.” (Psa. 51:12)
“But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:”
(Rom. 5:20)
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
(1 John 5:9)
3. Forsake Your Sin
“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth
and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
(Prov. 28:13)
Repetitive Sins
Can’t Go It Alone “For though we walk in the flesh,
we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare
are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)” (2 Cor. 10:3-4)
Draw Strength From God
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
(Eph. 6:10)
Avoid The Triggers“Enter not into the path of
the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it,
pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.” (Prov. 4:14-15)
