Dear Pastor,

We understand your concerns about the lack of fundamental, KJV materials available today. It is hard to find quality materials that uphold Biblical principles and support your stand as a pastor and as a church.

First let us assure you that all our materials are conservative and God-honoring. We hold to the fundamentals of the faith. Wendy and I are both Bob Jones University graduates and are members of Victory Baptist Church of Simpsonville, SC.

For almost 30 years we traveled in the United States conducting evangelistic meetings. Now God has led us to pass on some of what we have learned. We do that through these materials.

We invite you to take a closer look. These materials are a bit different.

While we stick to the old-time Gospel, we tell the stories one principle at a time. Many of the stories are told in short segments. For example, twelve lessons are devoted to the story of Noah. Each week, as the story advances, a new Life Lesson is emphasized.

Each lesson centers on one Life Lesson which is supported by the Introduction, Secondary Story, Bible Memory Verse, and Bible Story. They all tie together.

Read the sample lesson from Noah and you’ll see how the Life Lesson is emphasized again and again, culminating in a challenge to the children to apply that lesson to their lives. In other words, we magnify a single Bible truth per lesson by magnifying God’s Word.

In Christ,

Gary & Wendy Collins

INTRODUCTION

Every day after breakfast, Tim would rush over to the piano and begin to practice his lesson for the week. As soon as he finished his homework in the afternoon, he would practice again. Tim was pretty good at playing the piano and he often played special numbers at church for everyone to enjoy.

Jan never went near the piano to practice unless her mother insisted she do so. Her mother would have to remind her to practice for half an hour each day before she could go out to play. Jan hated to practice!

What was the difference between Tim and Jan? The difference was that Jan did not enjoy playing the piano and Tim loved playing it! It was hard for Jan to sit and practice for half an hour because she just didn’t like playing. But Tim could spend an hour or two playing and hardly notice that the time was flying by because he loved playing! Practicing faithfully was easy for Tim because he loved to play the piano!

The same is true of just about everything in life. If you love doing something, then it is easy for you to be faithful in doing it! In your Christian life, if you love the Lord Jesus Christ, then you will find it easy to follow and serve Him. Jesus wants you to serve Him faithfully and it is so easy to do when you love Him first!

Today’s Life Lesson is: I will serve Jesus faithfully.

Obtain Flash Card.

Greg got up when the sun started to shine in his eyes. A quick glance out the window showed a bright new day had begun. Greg was sure it would be a wonderful new day.

Greg jumped up and ran to the bathroom. He washed his face and brushed his teeth. He ran a comb through his messy hair. He grinned at himself in the mirror because now he looked ready to face the new day.

Page 7: A Closer Look - QualitySpeech.com...Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all

In his room he took off his messy, rumpled pajamas and tossed them in the dirty clothes hamper. In his closet he found a neatly pressed shirt and he took a clean pair of jeans from his dresser. When he had put on his clean clothing he was pleased with what he saw in the mirror. His mom would be happy with the way he looked today.

In the kitchen Greg’s mom was humming as she fixed breakfast. Greg knew there would be cereal and toast and orange juice to fill his hungry tummy. Greg smiled at his mom and called out, “Hi, Mom!” as he entered the kitchen. His mom gave him a big smile and a big hug. Then she set the food on the table. Greg sat down and bowed his head. He was grateful for the good food on his plate. It would fill his tummy and give him strength for the day.

What a good beginning Greg had for his new day!

Do you know that the Bible tells us we should get the same kind of beginning to our Chris-tian life? Let me tell you what I mean. (Show Flash Card)

1. First, “Put off.” When Greg jumped up in the morning, the first thing he did was to go wash his face and brush his teeth. Then he combed his hair. He was putting off the sleepy eyes and cotton mouth that he had every morning. Then he combed his messy hair. Why? No one likes morning breath or messy, bed-head!

In the Christian life God tells us to put off the old thing in our lives that cause us to be unpleasant and sinful in God’s eyes. The Bible calls this our “old man.” Our old, sinful man has a sinful heart that needs to be cleaned up. Just as you need to wash up in the morning, you also need to have your heart and life washed clean from sin. Jesus wants to wash away your sin. You cannot do the job yourself. Have you let Jesus wash your sins away?

2. Then, “Put on.” When Greg returned to his room he took off the rumpled, messy paja-mas and put on his clean, neat clothing. When we allow Jesus to put off the sin of our old man, then He is ready to put on the new godliness of Christ-likeness. When we are like Christ, then we are clean inside and out. We are pleasing to God.

So, first you must put off. Then you must put on.

Here are some Bible verses that tell us exactly what we need to put off and what we need to put on.

Ephesians 4:22-24 says, That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Colossians 3:8-10 says, But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Page 8: A Closer Look - QualitySpeech.com...Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all

Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that cre-ated him.

Colossians 3:12-14 says, Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mer-cies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

But that’s not all! There are two more things to seek for a good beginning. (Show Flash Card again.)

3. You need to “Greet.” When Greg went into the kitchen he was greeted with his mother’s smile and he greeted her with a cheery hello. She greeted him with a smile and a big hug.

We need to start each new day with a time when we greet our Lord and Master. That is the time when we talk to God. It is called prayer. Prayer is our time to praise the Lord. It is our time to bring our needs to Him. It is our time to talk with the Him about the things that are on our heart.

Make sure you greet the Lord each morning!

Psalm 63:1 says, O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.

4. Lastly, you need to “Eat.” Greg knew that a good breakfast would give him the strength and nourishment to help his body face the new day.

Each day we need to feed and nourish our souls with Heavenly food. The Bible is our Heav-enly food that we need to feast on daily.

We start eating food from the time we are born, don’t we? Of course. Even babies need to eat, even if it is only milk. Then as they grow older they begin to eat solid food. And the food they eat helps them to keep growing.

Christians are the same way. You are never too young to read God’s Word. When you are a new Christian you should desire to be fed with God’s word. At first you eat it slowly. But as you grow in the Lord, you can eat more solid food from the Word, and that Spiritual food will help you to grow into a strong Christian. And the stronger you become as a Christian, the more faith-fully you can serve the Lord.

Page 9: A Closer Look - QualitySpeech.com...Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all

1 Peter 2:2 says, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.

Psalm 19:8-10 says, The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

Jeremiah 15:16 says, Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

So remember, if you want a good beginning to each day, then you must put off and put on. You must greet and eat. That will help you to grow into a servant of God who faithfully serves Him.

TEACHER’S STUDY TEXTJohn 21:1-22

LESSONFishinG

Today’s story begins with seven of Jesus’ disciples deciding that while they were waiting for Jesus to come tell them what He wanted them to do, they would fill their time with something that they were very familiar with doing. They decided to go fishing.

“I go fishing,” Peter announced to the others. Peter was a restless man and I don’t think that he liked sitting and waiting. He wanted action so he decided to do something. Six others thought he had a good idea so they joined Peter.

Now fishing was something that most of these men had done many times. Many of them had been professional fishermen before Jesus called them to follow Him. They had caught fish and sold them to make a living. On this day they must have felt that fishing would fill a double purpose. First it would keep them busy and secondly it would earn them some money to help pay for the needs they had.

The seven men climbed into a ship and they cast off from the shore. They rowed or sailed to a spot a slight distance from the shore where they thought the fish would be the thickest. Then they cast down their nets.

They didn’t use fishing poles because they wouldn’t be able to catch very many fish that way. Instead, large nets were used to gather many, many fish at one time. The men would throw out the nets and wait for the fish to swim in. Then the men would pull in the nets and dump the fish on the deck of the ship.

But today when the men cast their nets out, there were no fish. The nets stayed empty. All day long they tried again and again but still they caught nothing!

John 21:1-3 says, After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.

There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Gali-lee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

Any Fish?

Page 11: A Closer Look - QualitySpeech.com...Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all

The men must have been discouraged when their nets remained empty even though they continued trying to catch fish all day and all night long!

Out on the shore the men could see a man standing and watching them. The man called to them, “Have you any meat?” He was asking if they had fish. Of course, their answer was, “No!”

Then Jesus told them to cast their nets on the right side of the ship. They had not recog-nized that the man they were talking to was actually Jesus. They may have thought it was strange that a man on shore would tell them to throw their nets on another side of the ship, but they did as they were told.

When they went to pull in the net, it was so full of fish that they could not pull it in. All seven of those strong men tugged and pulled with all their might but the nets were heavier than they had even known them to be. There were so many fish that they couldn’t get them all in the boat.

I suppose that when this happened, it seemed very much the same as the day several years before, when Jesus had done the exact same thing for them. In Luke chapter five, Peter was a pro-fessional fisherman and Jesus asked if he could borrow his ship. Peter gladly took Jesus a short dis-tance out onto the water. Jesus sat in the ship and taught the crowd of people on the shore. Then Jesus told Peter to go to a deep spot and let down the net. Peter explained to the Lord that he had been fishing all night but had caught nothing. It was not a good fishing day, yet Peter obeyed. Just as Jesus said, the nets were full and overflowing. That was the same day that Jesus called Peter to be one of His disciples.

John realized that the man who stood on the shore must be Jesus! “It is the Lord,” John called out to the other disciples.

Peter was so excited that he jumped out of the ship! He began to swim quickly toward the shore since he was so anxious to see and speak with Jesus.

John 21:4-8 says, But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the dis-ciples knew not that it was Jesus.

Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.

And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.

WArm FelloWship

Quickly the disciples who were left in the ship sailed it to the land and secured it. They also were anxious to see Jesus. A wonderful sight welcomed them when they got to the land. Jesus knew they were tired and hungry so He built a warm fire. There was already fish cooking and bread nearby. The meal must have smelled and looked so inviting to them!

Jesus told the men to bring in their fish and the net was full of large fish. In fact, when they counted them there were 153 fish. That was much more than the net had been made to carry, yet the net was not broken.

Jesus called to them, “Come and dine.”

Gladly the men joined Jesus by the fire and they ate till they were full. They warmed their hands by the fire and they sat to talk with their Lord.

John 21:9-14 says, As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

lovest thou me?Dinner was over and everyone was warm and full. Jesus began to talk to Peter. Jesus asked

Peter, “Peter, lovest thou me more than these?”

Peter quickly answered, “Yes, Lord! You know I love you!”

Three times Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him and three times Peter assured the Lord that he did indeed love Him. Each time Jesus told Peter, “Feed my sheep.”

Jesus was referring to Peter caring for and leading those who would become followers of Jesus in the days to come.

This was the first time Jesus had been able to have a conversation with Peter since before His death. Most likely Peter could not stop thinking about the fact that just a few days before he had denied that he even knew Jesus. Peter must have been ashamed of himself! So Jesus wanted to talk with Peter and reestablish the close relationship they had enjoyed before.

Page 13: A Closer Look - QualitySpeech.com...Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all

Jesus knew that Peter loved Him. He could look deep into Peter’s heart and see the love, but I think Jesus wanted Peter to think about how much he loved the Lord. Jesus had a special job for Peter and He wanted Peter to be fully convinced of his love for the Lord. Why? Because Jesus knew that Peter would not have an easy life. From that day on, Peter would be busy telling others about salvation through Jesus Christ and many would reject him. In fact, Jesus told Peter that he would die a martyr’s death. Jesus knew that Peter would only be willing to die for Jesus if he was first willing to live for Him.

The same is true for us. We must first love the Lord Jesus before we can properly serve Him!

John 21:15-19a says, So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God.

FolloW me

Then Jesus said to Peter, “Follow Me.”

Jesus had a special job for Peter. But Peter quickly asked, “What about him?”

Peter was pointing at John. He wanted to know what the Lord wanted John to do and what John would have to suffer.

Jesus told Peter not to be concerned about what would happen to John. He only needed to be concerned with what God wanted him to do. Jesus knew He would be leaving earth soon to return to Heaven. He wanted Peter to be prepared to serve Him faithfully. Jesus’ mission on earth was almost completed, but Peter’s mission had just begun.

John 21:19b-22 says, And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

Page 14: A Closer Look - QualitySpeech.com...Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all

Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

do your JoB!Did you know that the Lord has a special mission here on earth for you too? He does.

The Lord Jesus has a job for every one of His children. You may not know yet what He wants you to do, but you can prepare yourself now by learning all you can about the Bible and you can love the Lord with all your heart. Then when He gives you a job to do, you can serve Him faithfully because you love Him.

Maybe you have never asked Jesus to come into your heart and forgive your sin. If you haven’t done that, then you are not His child. But He does love you very much and He wants you to be His child. Today you can tell Jesus that you know you are a sinner and that you believe He died on the cross to take away your sin. You can ask Him to forgive your sin and come into your heart. Would you like to do that?

INVITATION

CHALLENGE

Today I would like to challenge you to love the Lord Jesus Christ with all of your heart. The Lord wants you to serve Him, but first you must love Him. If you love the Lord with all of your heart, then you will naturally want to obey and serve Him. If you do not love Him, then it will not be a joyful thing to serve Him, it will only be something you do out of duty. But He wants you to serve Him because you love Him!

Page 15: A Closer Look - QualitySpeech.com...Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all

QUIET TIME AND PRAYER

I want you to bow your head and close your eyes. I want you to think about the challenge I have just given you. Think of how you can put it into practice in your own life.

(Give the children a few seconds to think. You can change what you say in your prayer ac-cording to what the lesson and challenge for the week has been.)

Now I am going to pray and ask God to help you accept this challenge and do your best to practice it this week. I am going to ask God to help you to love and serve Jesus faithfully.

SCRIPTURES

We believe in the authority of the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments. That it was physically written by Spirit-controlled men. That every word is inspired, infallible and inerrant in all matters.

GOD

We believe there is only one living and true God. He is the Maker and supreme Ruler of Heaven and earth. In the Godhead there are three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection and executing distinct but harmonious offices.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son; He was active in the creation; He restrains the evil one until God’s purpose is fulfilled; He convicts of sin, of righteous-ness and of judgment; He bears witness to the truth of the gospel; He is the Agent in the new birth; He seals, endues, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies and helps the believer.

SATAN

We believe in the reality of Satan; he was created by God as an angel but through pride and rebellion became the enemy of God; he became ruler of the powers of darkness and is destined to the eternal judgment in the lake of fire.

CREATION

We believe the Biblical account of the creation of the physical universe, angels, and man; this account is neither allegory nor myth, but a literal, historical creative act of God without any evolutionary process; man was created by a direct act of God; and all men are descended from Adam and Eve.

THE FALL OF MAN

We believe man was created in innocence, in the image and like-ness of God, but by voluntary transgression Adam fell from his sinless state, and all men sinned in him, in consequence of which all men are totally depraved, are partakers of Adam’s fallen nature, and are sinners by nature and are under just condemnation without defense or excuse.

THE VIRGIN BIRTH

We believe that Jesus was begotten of the Holy Spirit in a mi-raculous manner, born of Mary, a virgin, as no other man was ever born or can be born of woman, and the He is both the Son of God and God, the Son.

SALVATION

We believe that salvation of sinners is provided by grace through Jesus Christ, Who voluntarily took upon Himself our nature, yet without sin, shed His blood in His death, thus fully satisfying the just demands of a holy and righteous God; His sacrifice was a voluntary sub-stitution of Himself in the sinner’s place, the Just dying for the unjust, Christ the Lord bearing our sins in His own body on the tree; having risen from the dead He is now in Heaven, and He is in every way quali-

fied to be a suitable, a compassionate and an all-sufficient Savior. We believe faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only condition of salvation. Repentance is a change of mind and purpose toward God prompted by the Holy Spirit and is an integral part of saving faith.

RESURRECTION AND PRIESTHOOD OF CHRIST

We believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ and in His ascen-sion into Heaven where He now sits at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest interceding for us.

GRACE AND THE NEW BIRTH

We believe in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; the new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus; it is instantaneous and not a process; in the new birth the one dead in trespasses and sins is made a partaker of the divine nature and receives eternal life, the free gift of God; the new creation is brought about by God, through the power of the Holy Spirit in connection with divine truth, so as to secure our voluntary obedience to the gospel; its evidence appears in the fruits of repentance, faith and newness of life.

JUSTIFICATION

We believe justification is that judicial act of God whereby He declares the believer righteous on the basis of the imputed righteousness of Christ; it is bestowed, no in consideration of any work of righteous-ness which we have done, but solely through faith in the Redeemer’s shed blood.

SANCTIFICATION

We believe sanctification is the divine setting apart of the believer unto God accomplished in a threefold manner; first, an eternal act of God, based on redemption in Christ, establishing the believer in a posi-tion of holiness at the moment he trusts the Savior; second, a continuing process in the saint as the Holy Spirit applies the Word of God to the life; third, the final accomplishment of this process at the Lord’s return

RAPTURE AND SUBSEQUENT EVENTS

We believe in the premillennial return of Christ, an event which can occur at any moment, and that at that moment the dead in Christ shall be raised in glorified bodies, and the living in Christ shall be given glorified bodies without tasting death, and all shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the air before the seven years of the Tribulation. We believe that the Tribulation which follows the Rapture of the Church, will be culminated by the revelation of Christ in power and great glory to sit upon the throne of David and to establish the millennial kingdom.

THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED

We believe only those who are justified by faith in Jesus Christ and sanctified by the Spirit of our God are truly righteous in His esteem; while all who continue in impenitence and unbelief are in His sight wicked and under the curse; and this distinction holds among men both in and after death, in the everlasting joy of the saved and the everlasting conscious suffering of the lost in the lake of fire.
