Tuesday, March 17, 2020 Subject: Reading Estimated Time: 45 minutes Overview: Stop and Jot using Comprehension Connections Explanation of Activity and Assignment: We have been using different Comprehension Connections and writing “Stop-and-Jots” in our Reading Notebook. During this task, you will read a chapter from your independent reading book and reflect on reading using “Stop-and-Jots.” Quick Things to Know: M: Metacognition- Thinking about your thinking. S: Schema-Using your background knowledge to make a connection. I: Inferring- Making a prediction based on text evidence. DI: Determining Importance- What was the most important detail? V: Visualizing- Creating mental pictures in your mind using your senses. Tasks: Read 1-2 chapter(s) in your independent reading book. Write down 2-3 “stop and jots” per chapter. Links/ Activities: Using the notebook that was sent home in your folder, open to a clean page. Put the date in the top left corner. At the top of the page write the title of your book. Read the next chapter (or two!) in your book. Write down your reflections. In the margin of the notebook, label the reflection with the letter of your stop and jot. Write 2-3 stop and jots for each chapter. Turn-in Your Assignment: Take a picture of your writing and post-it to your Seesaw Journal.

Estimated Time: 25 minutesOverview: Create a leprechaun trap and write about how you can use it to catch a leprechaun. Explanation of Activity and Assignment: In school, students have previously been instructed on writing “How-To’s” or a list of steps needed to complete an activity and fantasy/fiction stories in our Writing Notebooks during our Free Choice Writing Time. In this assignment, go on Seesaw and find the activity How to Catch a Leprechaun. Click on the link and listen to the story. Then, draw a trap and include labels of what you would use. On a second slide, write about how you would use this trap to catch a leprechaun. You can also record your thinking, instead of writing. When you are finished, save it to your Journal.Links/Activity:Here is the activity as you will see it on Seesaw. Open to your Seesaw and tap “Add Response.” Follow the directions to complete the activity.

Turn-in Your Assignment: When you are finished, tap the green checkmark and save to your Seesaw Journal.

Your goal is to practice your spelling words and master how to spell them! Quick Things to Know:

1) You will need your “Spelling Challenge Words” page to complete this assignment. Focus on List 1 this week. This is in your Grab Bag folder.

2) You will also need your “SPELLING CHALLENGE” page with lots of different options for spelling activities. This is in your Grab Bag folder.

Tasks: Choose one activity to complete from your SPELLING CHALLENGE page (ex: computer practice or rainbow writing). Complete this one activity using your List 1 words. You can record your work in your notebook that went home in your Grab Bag folder when applicable. Subject: Math - Homeroom Teacher Assignments: Overview: Practice important fact fluency and 3rd grade math concepts Estimated Time:  25 minutes Explanation of Activity and Assignment:  This year, we have put a big focus on fact fluency and developing the automaticity of basic fast facts. You will be practicing these facts during this activity. Also, you will review important concepts taught this year in math class. Quick Things to Know:

1. You will need technology for this lesson to complete their round of Xtra Math2. You will need their PSSA Math Review Packet in your Grab Bag folder.

 Tasks:

1. Log onto XtraMath.org and click “log on as student”. Type in your teacher’s email and your student access PIN. Then complete your round!

**NOTE: If a student does not know their PIN, please email your teacher and we will be able to provide you with that information.

2. Complete the next page in your PSSA Math Review Packet and have a parent check your work at home!

 Turn-in Your Assignment:There is no need to turn in anything for your Xtra Math round as teachers will already be able to access that information. Please take a picture of your completed PSSA Math Review Page and post it to your journal on Seesaw.

You can show numbers with drawings of base 10 blocks and with digits. You can also show numbers in standard form, expanded form, and word form.  Quick Things to Know:

Explanation of Activity and Assignment: Throughout the last several weeks, we have been learning many different geography skills to apply our knowledge to district standards of social studies learning. In this activity, you will review map skills and begin creating a map of your bedroom. Quick Things to Know:

1) Some students may have already completed the “In the City” page in their social studies class with their homeroom teacher. This page acts as a reinforcement to practice the skill again before designing their own grid map!

2) You will have more time tomorrow to work on your map and add details.Tasks: Complete the “In the City” worksheet in your Grab Bag folders. Next, design a map of your bedroom on the following page using the grid. Tomorrow you will have more time to add color and details to your map. Links/ Activities: You will be using the In the City activity packet and will record your responses on these two pages.
