30TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 27, 2019

THE VISITATION COLLABORATIVE

FROM THE PASTOR

This past Tuesday was the feast day of St. John Paul II. He is someone with whom most of us are familiar. I was feeling my age a little bit this week when I asked some of our students about St. John Paul II. They had heard of him but did not know anything about him. There are so many things that St. John Paul II preached and taught about the faith that brought millions of people, living and deceased, clos-er to Christ. For myself, his joy of being a priest is one of the factors that inspired me and helped me to respond to the call to the priesthood. Here are some memorable quotes from St. John Paul II: “The future starts today, not tomorrow.” “Do not be afraid. Do not be satisfied with mediocrity. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” “If He asks much of you, it is because He knows you can give much.” “It is Jesus you seek when you dream of happiness; he is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you.” “A person’s rightful due is to be treated as an object of love, not as an object for use.” Last weekend was a busy and blessed one here in the collaborative. We had a wonderful evening on Friday with some of children and their parents for a night of service. The families packed care packages for people at Fr. Bill’s. It was the first of our monthly service nights. Stay tuned for the next one on November 22nd. Thank you to all who planned for the Oktoberfest: Laura Kessler, The McGillicuddy’s, Jamie Rush, Brendan McGrath, The Taughers, Joan O’Brien, Clare Joyce, Denise Ilacqua, the Nevilles; and to all of you who helped set up and clean up. It was a wonderful evening of coming together as one collaborative. The few hundred dollars that we made was a bonus on top of our objective of bringing people together. We learned that there were a few things happening that evening which we are going to plan around next year. We are currently looking for a date in early October next year.

St. Elizabeth / St Mary 2019 GRAND ANNUAL COLLECTION

All of our registered households should have re-ceived a letter and pledge card in the mail. Thank you for prayerfully considering what you can do to help your parish. This is the most important collec-tion of the year for our parishes as it addresses part of the operating budget needs and many small facil-ity projects. There are extra packets at the church doorways if you did not receive one.

Baby Bottle Boomerang This weekend the Collaborative will kick off our Baby Bottle Boomerang to benefit The Friends of the Unborn. “Friends of the Unborn” is a pri-vate home and Christian ministry established in 1984, where women who are faced with an un-planned pregnancy in need of support, can find caring and compassionate counsel, shelter, and guidance.

Please take a bottle from the baskets at the doors of the church and over the next two weeks fill it with coins, bills or a check (made out to “Friends of the Unborn”). All the proceeds will go toward support-ing the mothers and children who are served by Friends of the Unborn. Please join us in making this a generous contribution to those in need. Thank you.

Our next big fundraiser/social will be our St. Pat-rick’s Day party on February 29th. Please mark your calendars and have your family and friends do them same! Have a blessed week. In Christ, Fr. Bennett

As we begin this new year of service we would like to invite all members of our parishes to join our minis-try as bakers or servers. For more information please call Jed Doherty at 617 833 7063 or email [email protected]

Mission trip opportunity?!

We need your help to make it happen!

We have the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Long Branch, NJ during April School Vacation (April 19-24 2020) Before we are able to promote this opportunity, we are looking for adults or young adults interested in chaper-oning. We stay at a beautiful retreat center called San Al-fonso Retreat Center. During the week, we help rebuild homes in northern NJ destroyed by Superstorm Sandy in 2013. They are still picking up after that storm believe it or not. We will work with St. Bernard Project to oversee the construction work. Little to no experience required! Please talk with or email Will if interested. Thank you! [email protected]

Ministry Sundays Our Ministries are the heart and soul of our Collaboration. Over the next few months, members of various ministries will showcase their groups' work. There are many opportu-nities for you to enrich your faith and be involved in our active and vibrant community. Please stop by!

Collaborative Pastoral Plan

A writing team has been formed by Fr. Bennett to re-

flect, discern, discuss and draft a Christocentric local

pastoral plan. Team members will meet eight times

over the course of the year to comprehensively exam-

ine the life of the parishes from varying perspectives

in order to support mission-driven activity and plan-

ning. Our local Pastoral Plan must be submitted to

the Cardinal for his approval by June 30, 2020.

At the third meeting, the team focused on Discern-

ing a Vision for the Collaborative. Discussion fo-

cused on identifying problem areas and possible so-

lutions to reach a desired outcome. From this dis-

cussion, a draft Vision Statement was agreed upon.

This statement will be presented to staff and leader-

ship councils for their input.

A local pastoral plan is a plan written by a unique mix

of clergy, staff, council members, and other commit-

ted parishioners to help foster a culture of evangeliza-

tion and discipleship in one particular collaborative of

parishes. The Archdiocese provides direct support in

the plan writing process. The local pastoral plan pro-

vides a vision to guide all the work of the parish and

make it mission-centered, remembering always the

Great Commission of Jesus, to “go and make disci-

ples of all nations…” Explore the process, resources,

and much more at www.disciplesinmission.com

You will be kept up to date throughout this process

and your input is desired and encouraged. Please feel

free to reach out to Fr. Bennett or any team member.

We are looking for the intentions of 20 people for each church. Your intentions will be placed on the front cover of the Missalette for the entire year. The intention

may be a memorial for a deceased loved one or a way to remember/honor a living friend or family member. We are asking $200 for each intention. Please use the form below to take advantage of this op-portunity. Thank you. _____________________________________________
