Dear Friends in Christ, The sharing of human warmth and affection is something which we all desire and need. Loving and being loved is one of the staples of human existence. Although love and physical affection enhance each other, too often the concept of love is too narrowly defined and even misconstrued when one makes physical affection synonymous with love. It simply is not! The art of expressing love is a very broad, inclusive, endeavor.

To discover how to be really good at expressing love, we must look to God - the greatest of all lovers. God’s love for us is not regulated by our response. It is always reaching out towards us. God doesn’t love us because we are so loveable. God doesn’t need to love us. Rather, we are in need of his love. In sending his Son Jesus, God demonstrated what true love really is. True love is a willingness to give yourself to another person, not for your sake but for his sake. Love regulated by another person’s response is not love at all. Love, in its purest form, is outwardly-directed rather than inwardly-directed. When another person’s burden becomes more important than your burden, that is the beginning of love. Love is from God. Paul recognizes this as he writes in 1 Thessalonians 3:12, "And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all men ..." The Lord gives us the ability to increase our ability to love. Want to know how to become a better lover? Open your heart and welcome in the fullness of God’s love. Let the perfect love of God within you express itself to people around you. A strong vertical love affair with God produces a strong horizontal love affair with others. Blessings,

Pastor Mark

Rummaging – A Fun Sport on a Saturday

A tough job for 4 days before the rummaging can take place – to let people come on down and hunt through, ransack, and search through the myriad of miscellaneous articles that for 5 minutes are neatly piled, stacked, displayed, and then ---

Taking the word rummage back through several language histories, “to search through a ship's hold” - Well, the SS Christ Lutheran hold was up for the search through miscellaneous items of clothing, household, furniture, knick knacks, electronics, and books. Once in awhile an item that is unique – one of a kind – comes to us with a STORY and defies anticipation, both of the source and of the story (no room here for the story)! The source, one of our seniors passing it on from a neighborhood curbside find and finding its way to one of our premier collectors of quirky, one of kind editions and to his delightfully quirky yard displays. Because (of all things) a traffic light – yup the red, green, yellow kind - we had one very happy customer.

We were amazed at the quantity of beautiful, adorable baby girl clothes that were donated and amazingly there were no baby boy clothes.

But to display even the most basic household items, clothing, electronics, furniture it takes a “village” of willing workers – to con-struct a display of these items pleasingly, make them easily accessible, checking for saleability, and then overseeing the sale and the cleanup. It doesn't happen in one afternoon, or two, or three - to be totally set up and ready to meet the rummaging public.

Our thanks to Cindy and John Terk; Dee and Fred Sulima; Nancy, Ken and Kenny Hill; Doris and Kayla Stickleman; Helen Gronus; Leanne Junker; Ellen McManus; Laura Primiano; Betsy and Alan Cunningham; Phil Bertuglia; Carol Carty; Helen, Adam, Steve and Peter Carioscia; Joe Callis; Cathryn Barbera; Vanessa Von Seggern; Pat Guenste; Betty Palazzolo; Jason, Emy, Joshua and James Terhune; Ju-dy Gauthier and Pastor Kreemer.

Thanks to all the donors and to all our friends and neighbors who came, rummaged and bought the treasures we offered – even the traffic light. In spite of local competition, the day evolved into Camelot. For $1,620 it was a good day for us and the community.

A special thanks to Cindy Terk, our Chief in Charge who, once again, has seen to the success of our event.

Thoughts of Judy Gauthier

SOMETIMES we suffer through change...change that impedes how things have been going along just fine ...change anywhere that for some feels like 'too much, too soon'...SOMETIMES not soon enough...SOMETIMES change imposes on our personal status quo-'nobody asked me/told me about that!'...OR, we realize some changes are all for good!

Some changes come along by chance; not planned for or decided on...just unforeseen opportunities that if we look at that word-just one letter different-and it makes all the difference on whether we rail against a change that offers an unexpected chance! Moving the G out and the C in makes a big difference in a small word.

But,alas, change often pokes us in the eye rather than pats us on the head-we don't look for the opportunity.....maybe its time to revisit the poke-unfold the re-sistant arms-take a chance on change.

So much for LECTURE on kenisis(body language)

Recently we have been blessed with chance that has and will bring change--our new Director of Music -innovative,talented and enthusiastic is setting us up for be-coming a better, more confident choir...there will be changes there will be chanc-es there will be positive results!

We have set out on a journey of VISIONING- what we foresee as the positive future of Christ Lutheran Church-there will be change , change that we bring about to-gether and chances that will be seen along the way. In our 103 years we have en-dured, embraced and empowered change- with one unchanging guarantee...5 words from the hymn "ABIDE WITH ME" THOU CHANGEST NOT O LORD! - written in stone!

Wednesday Morning Bible Study 11 am starting in May Blessed to Follow: The Beatitudes as a Compass for Discipleship In Matthew's Gospel, the Sermon on the Mount inaugurates Jesus' public ministry, and the first word out of Jesus' mouth is "blessed." He repeats this word throughout his first sermon. Jesus calls his disciples by bless-ing them, and as he speaks, Jesus introduces himself to us but also introduces disciples to themselves, for the Beatitudes offer a character sketch of who disciples will become if they follow him.
