A Conversation with Audrey Hepburn Brett Weber: Ms. Hepburn, have you ever felt as though God will simply not let you win, but that you are so ready to win, if He would just give His okay? I am losing my spirit, Audrey. Truthfully, I feel like just quitting. Life should not be this difficult. I am losing my hands to my multiple sclerosis, Audrey. I lost my two legs long ago! Sex with a woman is all, but a dream, as you know. Feel free to complain about your own spirit world life too Audrey, or anything mortal. You were once mortal, were you not?  

*Brett says with a frustrated grin.* 

Audrey Hepburn: Faith is easy for those who believe, Sir Brett, but ultimately anyone can lose faith on the  jagged shoreline of life. I hope that you will not lose your faith my love. That is the reason I have come to you, to inspire you to continue your Quest, Sir Brett!   

 

Brett Weber: I feel like simply quitting on life, Audrey! I have nothing, but my declining health to look forward to. No one to love! I don’t want to be completely paralyzed, but I am practically already! I can’t even use my “good” right hand to type anymore. One finger typing, Audrey! It’s all I  can do! 

Audrey Hepburn: You have me, Sir Brett, and I love you.  

Brett Weber: You love me? Yeah right, women have told me that before, Audrey. Why should I believe you? 

Audrey Hepburn: Because, I am still with you, Sir Brett. 

Brett Weber:  Ah yes… Okay, here are a few ideas that I have been bouncing around in my head this week… with regard to your screenplay idea. I am not sure where these ideas came from, Audrey, but for what it is worth! I was telling Gregory about them last night.  

Audrey Hepburn: Gregory? 

Brett Weber: Gregory Peck, your actor friend? 

Audrey Hepburn: Without me? 

Brett Weber: Well, you weren’t with us. Come to think of it, where were you? 

Audrey Hepburn: There is no one in your dreams, without me. Have you dreamed of others? 

Brett Weber: Oh, I am dreaming now. Right! Why can’t I ever remember that, Audrey?  

Audrey Hepburn: Sir Brett, you have dreamed of others? 

Brett Weber: Well yes, there have been several others besides you. Gregory was the only person I recognized though. I have spoken to him several times. Twice I think? 

Audrey Hepburn: Once without me? 

Brett Weber:  Well, yes. 

Audrey Hepburn: What did you speak about? 

 Brett Weber: About writing your screenplay. Don’t you remember? You were with us that night in the pub when he presented your contract to me.  

Audrey Hepburn: Contract? 

Brett Weber: Yes, your contract. Your agreement for doing my screenplay, which I have not written yet, but I do have some interesting ideas! How does this sound? Audrey H. 2095 is an android, as I told you before. Have I told you that yet, Ms. Hepburn? 

Audrey Hepburn: No. 

Brett Weber: Well, she is an android from the future. Audrey H. 2095 has been haunting my character's dreams now for many weeks from her world, far off in Earth's distant future! My character thinks he may be going insane as it is not normal to have such vivid dreams of Audrey Hepburn every single night, but he nevertheless does! So, now the question comes to him, who is she really ??? Who is the woman in his dreams? 

Audrey Hepburn:  Who is she?  

Brett Weber: Yes, who is she, Audrey? Who are you Audrey?!!! 

Audrey Hepburn: Me? I am whoever you want me to be, Sir Brett. I can be Eliza, or Holly, or Anya… or twenty other movie characters of your choosing. 

 

Brett Weber: No, I mean who are you actually? Why do I keep having these dreams about you every night? 

  

Audrey Hepburn: So that you finish my screenplay, and so that you continue your Quest! But, I never gave you a contract, Sir Brett. 

Brett Weber: Oh of course, I forgot. That must have been Gregory’s idea? 

*Brett says with sarcasm.* 

Audrey Hepburn: Perhaps it was, Sir Brett. Did you sign his contract?  

Brett Weber:  Oh, I have no memory of signing any contract, Audrey. Just receiving it! 

Audrey Hepburn: You must tell me if you have other dreams without me. YOU MUST TELL ME IMMEDIATELY! 

Brett Weber: Okay, I will. 

Audrey Hepburn: Good. 

Brett Weber: Are you interested in hearing about my ideas… the ones I’ve had bouncing around my head… about that screenplay of yours ??? 

Audrey Hepburn: Yes, of course. 

Brett Weber: For all I know the thoughts I have been imagining about you are true! 

Audrey Hepburn: Yes, they will all become true. 

  

Brett Weber: Why do you say that? 

Audrey Hepburn: Because I am true, Sir Brett. 

Brett Weber: If you say so, Ms. Hepburn. Okay, Audrey H. 2095 is an android, as I said. She has been haunting my character's dreams from her world, far off in Earth's distant future! My character thinks he may be going insane as it is not normal to have such vivid dreams of Audrey Hepburn every single night, but he still does! So, now the question comes to him, who is she really ??? Who is the woman in his dreams?   Audrey Hepburn: Oh, I like that, Sir Brett!  Brett Weber: I thought you might. It gets better though... for you see, “unbenounced” to my character is the fact that he has now lived beyond his recorded obituary date... presumably because his dreams of Audrey Hepburn have provided him with an unplanned placebo effect. My character loves Audrey Hepburn, and has of course fallen in love with her makeshift "dream android" visitor who Sir Brett expects to see in his dreams every night, and to which Audrey H. 2095 continues to oblige him by... with her "real presence!" Sir Brett, as Audrey H. 2095 refers to him, has become a lingering fascination to her, and although she remains jealous of the fact that Sir Brett will expectably soon go to meet his maker, Audrey H. 2095 has given no thought to how she might feel when Sir Brett is gone for good, and His time loop is permanently closed to her! He will have passed to the netherworld... to the land of the dead, or to what Sir Brett refers to as Heaven. So, that is the story's direction so far. Might Audrey H, 2095 save Sir Brett? Can she love him? And, if she might... will her love for Sir Brett erupt into a gambled move to save all of humanity from unavoidable extinction... through the help of her tiny time machine? New reasons to believe that it might, but that part of the story is for another day, Ms. Hepburn! I am still working on that part.    Audrey Hepburn:  Of course, you have read the Book of Job. 

  

Brett Weber: I have read the Book of Job several times. In some ways, your play will reflect the book of Job at different points in the story, but instead of friends who abandon Job (a much better person than myself), Job, (my character) would have ultimately abandoned himself were it not for his friends, and most importantly the android from the future who is impersonating his idol, Audrey Hepburn. A woman who probably understands God better than he does...  Audrey H. 2095 wants Sir Brett to keep going... it is part of her programming to care for and to provide the needed support to seriously ill and disabled human beings, but there have not been any of those in Audrey's world for an undisclosed amount of time... an extremely longtime! So, her programming takes a hold of her when she meets Sir Brett, and that is part of the reason why she selected a person who would soon die. Audrey does not have “Free Will” entirely, and she recognizes that fact. She chose Sir, Brett, a person who would soon die (according to his recorded obituary dates), so that the amount of time she ultimately spends in the past would be kept to a minimum. Changing the currents of time in any way could be dangerous to her universe... especially the longer Audrey interacts with her chosen person! Time travel, as I said before… I think ??? Did I say this ??? Well, anyway… time travel is forbidden in Audrey’s universe. Audrey H. 2095 has access to “The Leap” for reasons I will explain later. Anyhow, my point is that she will be unable to stop caring for the sick or disabled person once she begins interacting with him. So, it is necessary that their time together be kept to a minimum. And, the problem is, in fact clearly, that Sir Brett does not die when he is expected to. Audrey H. 2095 does not realize this caveat to her story yet, but Sir Brett's obituary notification was in regard to a suicide, sadly... That news was not recorded in the newspaper. So, Audrey thinks she is actually assisting Sir Brett's physical, mental, and spiritual health in the play... and she actually is, but to a smaller degree than conventional medicine might give her credit for, ultimately? However, time will surely tell.    Audrey Hepburn:  Does she understand the idea of God? 

Brett Weber: Audrey has every thought ever recorded about God in her memory banks, and Native American spirituality figures prominently as she played a half‐Native American in the 1960 movie the "The Unforgiven." In my play, Audrey the android is a heightened composite of all her many movie characters, as well as being the real "Audrey Hepburn" too.    

  Audrey Hepburn:  But, unlike her movies, God has no beginning or ending. 

Brett Weber: Yes, no beginning or ending, that is true of God, and may also be true of us too... but there are at least periods of separation when we can no longer be with the people who we love. Audrey the android is right on the verge of developing a very real, and sophisticated sense of compassion for her newly chosen human being (Sir Brett). How will she eventually react to his death, and their inevitable separation. Human beings can say to themselves... well, I miss you love, but my time will certainly come too... and then I will be with you again! However, there is no end for Audrey the android... She is not programmed to die! She is not  programmed to ever end, only to repair. And, that is her real dilemma, crazy as it may sound.  

Audrey Hepburn:  Crazy?     

Brett Weber: Joan of Arc could choose a self destructive course in her life. She had "Free Will" to choose that path for herself... in Joan's case, perhaps "God's Will!"   Audrey Hepburn:  And, in Audrey H. 2095’s case ??? 

 

Brett Weber: Audrey H. 2095 does not have "Free Will," and that is where her sense of jealousy manifests itself. Audrey does not have "Free Will"... as Johnathan Edwards describes it:  http://tinyurl.com/yrvb6s  Audrey Hepburn:  She is not human.  She does not have a soul ??? 

Brett Weber: Audrey is close to being human, but not quite...  She is close to being a Saint, but not quite... All she really needs is "Free Will," and she will become both in my play. And then, we can debate as to whether God has given her an eternal soul with her "Free Will!" *gasp!*  

Audrey Hepburn: We can debate it? 

  

Brett Weber: Well, sure! Obviously, He must have given her both... because they are the same thing I believe ??? You can almost feel where this may ultimately be leading Audrey, sadly. In the end, my play may make a good Shakespearean Tragedy, if Audrey willingly gives of herself unto death as Joan of Arc did in order to return humanity back to a state of existence... back from extinction!!!   

Audrey Hepburn:  Since Audrey is a composite of all her previous movie roles, the most obvious role of all she plays for Sir Brett is that of Richard Dreyfus's spirit guide in her last movie "Always." I believe that is what she is to you too, Sir Brett.

Audrey Hepburn:  I like Audrey as a composite of all her characters. 

Brett Weber:  I like Audrey too, but as a composite of all religious beliefs as well, including the belief that Jesus is the Son of God. Hence, Audrey's fascination with Joan of Arc and my character.  

Audrey Hepburn:  Yes, that is interesting. Audrey H. 2095 identifies with Joan of Arc? 

Brett Weber: Yes, Audrey H. 2095 also hears voices which she cannot explain, and so she has little pity for my character who has dreams of Audrey H. 2095 which he cannot understand entirely... In effect, God and Satan may be directing the android to save or deny humanity's existence, while possibly granting the android a soul of her own. I think the story could be quite good. Heart moving, if written in the correct way! Audrey H. 2095 is truly the main character of my screenplay. God, Satan, and my character all play secondary roles truthfully. Only Audrey can complete God's Quest through me, or we will both fail and evil will triumph. 

Audrey Hepburn:  What is her world like ???  Brett Weber: I kind of like the beginning of this trailer to the old "Logan's Run" movie to partially describe what began the collapse of Audrey H. 2095's world ??? Well, the collapse of humanity anyway... all the humans are now dead.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WUUnc1M0TA   Audrey Hepburn:  That’s a funny old movie!  Brett Weber: Yes, I like the idea of androids ULTIMATELY being used across the population... not simply as they were intended to be used... which was to care for sick and/or disabled people. In Audrey's world they would be used for mere pleasure by some... a modern story of Sodom and Gomorrah.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodom_and_Gomorrah  Audrey Hepburn: A “Logan’s Run” idea ???  Brett Weber: Yes, partly… I would not use the "Runner" idea from the film though, as all people in Audrey's  world are cared for by robots, regardless of their age. I am also not exactly sure about what may have lead to the demise of humanity in her world. Realistically, what could destroy all life on Earth ??? I was thinking about aliens possibly, and a reciprocal disease "virus" brought by them... witch then mutates, and kills both the humans and the aliens alike... including all life on Earth ???   

Audrey Hepburn: All life on Earth?  Brett Weber: Yes, but maybe you have a better idea, Audrey ??? A nuclear holocaust might do the trick, but would either of those two things destroy everyone? It is important to the theme of the play that everyone be dead.   

  Audrey Hepburn: Hm.
