A couple of words about Italy
Scirin Sharef
Italy is a country rich in history,
art
ancient cities
and important monuments.
But it is also famous for cinema, cooking, fashion, mafia and football.
And finally, strange politicians.
The Italian State is a Democratic Republic: the capital is Rome and it is located in a region called Lazio.
The Pope,
the President of the Republic,
and the premier of the Government
all reside in Rome.
This city has an incalculable amount of archaeological and artistic treasures. One of
the symbols of Rome is the Colosseum (70–80 AD), the largest amphitheatre ever built in the
Roman Empire.
Other important artistic cities are Florence, considered the birthplace of the Renaissance
and Venice, sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges.
One of the oldest universities in the world is in Bologna: the Alma Mater Studiorum, founded in 1088.
In Italy there are many foreign tourists, who apart from being interested in art and culture, can also find a variety of amazing places:
the sea with its beautiful beaches,
and the north with its wonderful mountains.
The countryside in the centre of Italy is very green and lovely.
Italy is also a modern nation with important economic and industrial activity. In Turin, for example, there is the Fiat company.
In Milan there are important private television broadcasters.
And in Rome there are famous stylists like Fendi, Versace and Valentino.
In Naples there aren’t any big industries but it is very famous for music and food such as “mozzarella di bufala” and “pizza”.
There are a lot of famous Italian names: Campari, Ferrari, Benetton, Armani, Fellini, Benigni, to name just a few.
Do you know them?
