Feng Shui, the ancient natural science of “wind and water”, assesses how the Heaven and Earth influence certain locations and properties. The ultimate goal of this practice involves finding the best places in which to build, as well as positioning a property in

the optimum way, which will improve the life and luck of its occupants.

Introduction

Today’s world is, more or less, defined by scientists. These folk have brought abundant good to our civilization – we are now safer, we live longer, mechanization means there is less need for arduous human manual labor, our lives are more comfortable and we also have more spare time…

However, while we bask in our modern day achievements we tend to forget that the devel-opment of our culture didn’t simply happen overnight. Important early discoveries and in-ventions such as the calendar, printing, paper, the compass, gunpowder, seismographs, etc. all helped to accelerate the growth of our civilization. For these inventions, plus many others we should be grateful to various ancient Keplers, Newtons, Nobels and Guttenbergs. In fact many of these early creators came from an ancient culture that also happens to be the only one to sur-vive to the modern day – the Chinese culture.

Unlike the more mechanical approach of the West, early Chinese scientists considered na-ture to be a living and breathing organism. Accordingly, the basic concepts of Chinese philoso-phy and Feng Shui: Qi, Yin/Yang, Five Elements, Eight Trigrams, Three Treasures, Luo Shu and He Tu were not considered to be vague philosophical principals. On the contrary, were applied to every aspect of life – from everyday matters, to medicine, philosophy, ethics and politics. These concepts were actually viewed as universal laws that can also be applied today to modern physics, astronomy, geography, etc.

For example, the principle of Yin/Yang encompasses the simultaneous expansion and con-traction of the forces of the universe, maintaining the universe in a state of dynamic balance. Furthermore, there are other concepts such as Early Heaven/Later Heaven (which belongs to the Eight Trigrams, but can be also seen as an extension of Yin/Yang), which reminds us that while it may appear that the world of change is separate from that of the unchanging, these two worlds actually exist simultaneously. This concept also illustrates that everything resonates with something else, regardless of the relative distance between them.

Some contemporary micro-cosmos studies also exhibit similarities with certain ancient Chinese settings. As an example, the pentaquark particle has a striking similarity to the con-cept of the Five Elements. Another important ancient system, Yi Jing, has intrigued scientists who have studied it on numerous occasions. As a result it has been linked to both Leibniz’s Binary System and the codons of DNA. Chinese medicine has also been extensively studied in the West. One major breakthrough is that acupuncture, which deals with the flow of Qi through the meridians of our bodies, has been validated by the UN and accepted internation-ally as an alternative method for the improvement of health.

The ancient Chinese scientists considered all phenomena in a holistic sense. Accordingly in order for an individual’s health to be fully understood, scholars relied heavily on informa-

10

tion from Feng Shui and Four Pillars astrology. While each of these two systems covers differ-ent subject matter, due to the complexity of all phenomena (including people’s lives), they also harmoniously complement each other. If we want to apply a holistic approach today, we might say that from a contemporary exclusive point of view of philosophy, religion, metaphysics or the science of life and certain phenomenon could lack perspective. Since every phenomenon is made up of different aspects, and as we are not solely physical beings, nor entirely psycho-logical, emotional or spiritual creatures either, it is more likely that our Chinese predecessors were correct when they considered all these factors should be applied simultaneously in order to achieve a more comprehensive view of everything that interests us.

Feng Shui is an independent system which is typically applied in tandem with the Four Pillars (providing information about the person) and Date Selection (facilitating optimal tim-ing and locking in the Feng Shui setting). Feng Shui is based on universal laws that are not ex-clusive to Chinese culture, and so its application doesn’t rely on personal beliefs. Classical Feng Shui is not an idle pursuit, nor is it a method of interior design as has been widely misrepre-sented in Western media. To the contrary, this is a complex study of the earth’s energy and en-vironment and the ways in which it affects people over time. Feng Shui is both a living geogra-phy and human science; it is based on natural laws while also being firmly grounded in certain methodologies. Since its theories and assessment procedures include both visible and hidden energy flows and patterns it is often classified under metaphysics.

Throughout its ten chapters and extensive appendices, this book reveals the secrets of Classical Feng Shui and how everything around us from the soil, surroundings, features of the landscape, property placement and layout play a significant role and influence us all, regard-less of age, nationality, beliefs or education. The message of this book is that the key to growth and prosperity can be found right within one’s home; that every individual can make where they live the foundation of their future progress. This is not a book about symbols or figurines – there are no shortcuts in Classical Feng Shui. No symbols can change the prevailing energy of one’s environment or the way in which a property can have an effect on people.

In the opening chapter the reader will learn about the origins and history of Classical Feng Shui, with an explanation of the basic principles. The influence of the general environment will be explained in Chapter 2, while Chapter 3 deals with the ways in which the immediate sur-roundings have an effect on everyone. Chapter 4 explains the influence of room allocation and everything else that affects the internal Qi flow, while Chapter 5 explores the basics of the prac-tice of Feng Shui and the best ways to map a property.

Chapters 6 and 7 introduce the two most trustworthy methods used by Feng Shui profes-sionals to assess, move and direct Qi. While Chapter 6 presents Ba Zhai (Eight Mansions), Chapter 7 introduces the complex and subtle method of Xuan Kong Fei Xing (Flying Stars). Both methods are commonly applied in the design and evaluation of a property and for find-ing the good and bad locations and directions inside it. Chapter 8 explains how to perform ac-tivations, plan reconstructions, avoid the negative and make the most of favorable Annual en-ergies. Chapter 9 deals with the basics of Four Pillars astrology and Chapter 10 introduces the

11

essentials of Date Selection. The Appendices provide even more tables and a useful 2017-2030 Date Selection calendar, together with Flying Stars charts for Periods 7, 8 and 9, etc.

In addition, every chapter has a summary allowing the reader to quickly recall the key sub-jects. A Glossary of Terms can be found at the end of the book, providing a useful reference tool to help with becoming more familiar with the subject matter. Throughout the book, tables and illustrations accompany the most important topics.

This book will help you become more familiar with your property and its surroundings. It will enhance your awareness of the profound influence that subtle energies have on everyone, every minute of the day. Whether you are a stock broker, corporate CEO, entrepreneur, writ-er, actor, Feng Shui enthusiast or lover of nature, or simply someone who deeply cares for the wellbeing of their family and friends, you will find something valuable for yourself in this book. Once read it’s up to you how much you use it to achieve the amazing results discussed with-in. Just be aware that Classical Feng Shui is not a toy; it’s a powerful tool that should always be handled with care and the utmost respect.
