Page 1: A Day in the Life of a Muslim Girl

Assalamu’ Alaikum, and Peace Be Upon You!

My name is Fatima Khan, and I am a 12 year old girl living in the beautiful city of Toronto, Canada. I live with my parents and my two elder sisters. I am also a Muslimah, which means I follow the religion of Islam. It plays a very important role in my life!

I wake up early in the morning before sunrise tostart my day with prayers. As Muslims, we prayfive times a day: The first is in the early morning, the second is around noon, the third is in the afternoon, the fourth is in the evening, andlastly, the fifth is before bedtime. Before I pray,I make ‘wudu’ (ablution), where I wash my hands, face, elbows, and feet, so that I am cleanbefore offering my prayers. We pray to thankAllah for all the wonderful things we are given, and to sometimes ask for a little more. I usuallylike to ask for a brand new bike!

After praying in the morning, I quickly get ready for school and go downstairs to eat breakfast. I love to eat cereal and drink a warm glass of chocolate milk in the morning. Then I wear my jacket and take the bus to school. After I come home from school, I first change and wash my hands, then I make ‘wudu’ before offering my prayers once again.  After I complete my homework, my family sits down for dinner where we eat, laugh, and share what we did during the day with each other.

After dinner, we usually like to sit together in the living room, where my Dad reads to us a story from the Quran. The Quran is the religious book of Islam, and in it, there are lots of amazing stories and lessons on the best way for a person to live their life. The Quran tells us to be kind to others, to respect our parents and elders, to work hard, and to always be thankful for everything we are blessed with.

When I sit in the living room with my parents and sisters, it is my favourite time out of the whole day because I feel the happiest when we are all together!

After that, it is time to get ready for bed. And that’s how I spend my day!
