Hamsey Green.
Officers are continuing to in-vestigate the circumstancessurrounding the murder of amale whose body was discov-ered by gardeners in a well inHamsey Green.Police were called after work-men discovered the body in awell outside an address in Au-dley Drive, at around 1.50pmon Friday 15th November.Specialist officers, includingMetropolitan Police divers, at-tended the scene and recov-ered the body.A post mortem examinationwhich took place on Sunday,17th November did not pro-vide a cause of death and fur-ther tests are beingconducted. Seasoned runnersand families with babies intow all donned free Santacostumes to run the twoand a half kilometre route. Over the 12 days of Christ-mas, it will cost St Cather-ine’s around £130,000 tocare for patients and fami-lies in Sussex and Surrey.Jen Wickham, EventsFundraiser at St Catherine’ssaid: “We are very gratefulto the Santa Runners whojoined us at Queen's Parkthis year and to formerworld champion kickboxerJody Blunt for conductingthe warm up. I’d also like to
thank Councillor BeverleyConnolly (Chairman of Tan-dridge District Council) andCouncillor Sally Marks (Sur-rey County Councillor) forstarting the run. Thank youto the volunteers who gaveup their time to help, in-cluding members of Cater-ham Rotary who acted asmarshals, and GatwickGroup, who kindly spon-sored this year's run. St Cather-ine’s must raise £15,000every day to continue toprovide care and comfort forterminally ill people, so tak-ing part in these events re-ally does make a difference.” For more information aboutSt Catherine's work, pleasego to www.stch.org.uk

Skin and Laser
Clinicby Julia Church
Most ladies like to treatthemselves to a new gar-ment or two for the festiveseason but it is also the per-fect time to enjoy a beautytreatment as well.We all like to look our best forChristmas and after my visitto Surrey Skin and LaserClinic recently I felt confidentthat my skin was lookingmore healthy and glowing. The Clinic in Limpsfield HighStreet, is easy to find and Icould park outside the door.On arrival I was offered a cupof coffee and asked to com-plete a questionnaire aboutmy general health. SarahSlade, the co-owner of theClinic discussed my require-ments with me and explainedthe different proceduresavailable. Sarah and herbusiness partner Rosie areboth highly experiencedState Registered Nurses asthe treatments at the Clinicare medical procedures. Sarah said: “One of themain reasons our clients like
Registered nurse, Sarah Slade, gently applies the Mango Peel.
to come here is because theyfeel reassured that Rosie andI are registered nurses andthey feel they are in safehands.” As it was my first visit, Sarahrecommended I have a Der-maQuest Mango skin tighteningpeel because the friut acids andlactic acid in the mango pulp willeven and brighten my skin tone. After removing my makeupand cleansing my skin, Sarahapplied the treatment, con-sisting of mango pulp andorange stem cells and left itto work its magic. The wholeprocedure was very relaxing. The mango pulp felt cool andrefreshing and slightlytingly. Sarah said thatthe tingling sensation wasthe effect of the lactic acid inthe pulp increasing the
hydration of my skin. Afterremoving the peel Sarah ap-plied an antioxidant soothingserum to calm my skin. The whole procedure tookabout half an hour and Sarahrecommended I did notreapply my make-up for therest of the day.In the days that followed thetreatment I could feel thedifference, with my skin feel-ing much softer and with alasting, healthy glow. In addition to the facial peelsthe Clinic offers a range ofother medical procedures in-cluding laser removal ofthread veins, Botox for frownlines, and hair removal. ID, or to give it its full name,‘Imperial Dynasty’ Chineserestaurant at 55 Croydon Roadis one of Caterham Valley’smost popular night spots andis the perfect place for celebra-tions of all kinds. This stylish, spacious restaurant can easilyaccommodate large partiesand has a separate bar area formeeting up with friends for adrink before dining. When visiting ID recently I metmy sister Helen in the bar firstbefore being shown through toour table in the restaurant. We were both feeling prettypeckish and very much lookingforward to our meal, so wewere pleased to have someprawn crackers to nibble onwhile we selected from themenu. For starters, I chose the Man-darin Spare Ribs and Helenchose the Grilled MeatDumplngs. She thought they
sounded unusual and wantedto try something different. My spare ribs were not ‘spare’at all, with plenty of meat in alovely sweet, sticky sauce.Helen enjoyed her dumplingstoo, particularly the soft pas-try casing and the tangy dip-ping sauce which she said wasa really nice, unusual combi-nation. For our main courses I choseone of the ‘Sizzling’ dishes,Sliced Lamb in Satay Sauce.Helen chose the Wall-SiuChicken and we shared a por-tion of Fried Ho Fun ‘SingaporeStyle’ noodles and a portion ofFried Mushrooms and ChineseMushrooms in Oyster Sauce. The portions were very gener-ous and looked amazing. Thenoodles were quite spicywhich contrasted well with themild flavour of my lamb dish. Helen was especially im-pressed with how crispy herchicken was, saying: “It’ssupposed to be crispy and itis!” Of course! If you have not yet discoveredID then it is the perfect placefor a Christmas treat and theyare now taking bookings for a
fabulous New Year’s Eve party. The restaurant is also availablefor private parties and func-tions. Call ID on 01883345491 for more information.

LettersDoctor appointmentsThere has been much talk inthe press recently aboutnew GP contracts. Thesefrequently mention the diffi-culty for patients in obtain-ing an appointment withtheir local practice. There is in the ward I repre-sent a development of some161 homes under construc-tion. Many local peoplewere concerned about theimpact this would have onaccess to doctors. Prior toplanning permission beinggranted, the local authoritywrote to the two GPs’ prac-tices closest to the proposedestate and asked for theircomments. One said theycould: “happily accommo-date the new patients,” andthe other said they: “didnot have a finite number toreach we keep our listsopen.”These comments lead oneto suggest that those rightlyconcerned with speedy ac-cess to doctors should lobbytheir local practices to employ more doctors andnurses or provide other
means to ameliorate the ex-isting situation, as it wouldappear that the doctorsthemselves do not perceivethere to be a problem. Cllr. Eithne WebsterWestway WardTandridge District Council.

Who wants to be
a Volunteer?by Rosemary Banks
Rosemary Banks.
The shorter, colder daysherald the coming of winterand even for those fortu-nate enough to have some-one to share the long greyhours it can be a depressingtime of year. For the eld-erly, isolated and those liv-ing in fear of the everincreasing fuel bills it iseven more so.And so this month I amasking you to consider vol-unteering as a Befrienderwith the Tandridge Be-friending Scheme, whereevery effort is made tomatch volunteers withthose in need, taking con-sideration of personalitiesand interests. We want yourexperience as well as thatof our client to be positiveand valuable. Some ofthose visited live independ-ently, some in residentialhomes and others have car-ers within their families.Visits to the latter groupallow a much needed breakfor the carer, often refresh-ing the carer's experienceas well as providing com-panionship to the cared-for.Some of those visitedstruggle with ill health, medical conditions or arehaving difficulties with their
sight or hearing. All lookforward to and really enjoytheir visits.Befrienders are rewardedtoo, with a new friendship,a great deal of gratitudeand the knowledge thatthrough their companion-ship they are making a verygreat difference to thequality of another’s life.Often shared interests, such as a love of music or askill or craft in common, can form the basis for a re-ally strong bond. In thesecases knowledge flows inboth directions – this canbuild confidence and a feel-ing of value to those whooften feel they are now justa burden to others. If you have even an hour aweek to spare and wouldlike to find out more aboutthis very valuable service, email me, Rosemary Banks,at [email protected] phone 01883 344444.

Leafe’s season ran into a seriesof cup matches over Octoberand November. Leafe contin-ued their FA Vase run with a4-2 win over Windsor FC, re-turning from a goal deficit, todraw with Lordswood away inthe next round. The following fixture was aSurrey Senior Cup matchagainst Ryman League Car-shalton Athletic at ChurchRoad. Despite holding the visi-tors to 0-0 at half time, astrong second half perform-ance saw Carshalton run outcomfortable 4-0 winners andLeafe’s Surrey Senior Cup am-bitions fell at the first hurdle. Following on from this, Leafebegan a two-legged KentLeague ‘Macron Cup’ matchagainst league rivals PhoenixSports, a narrow 3-2 defeataway in the first leg left plentyof hope of turning the tiearound at Church Road. How-ever, with a number of key in-juries, Leafe capitulated in thehome leg, losing the match 4-0 and the tie 7-2 to exit yet an-other competition.A waterlogged pitch saw
Leafe’s planned away leaguefixture at Corinthian postponedbefore they travelled toLordswood in the FA Vase, hoping to continue their suc-cess in their last remaining cupcompetition with dreams ofreaching Wembley. Leafe gotoff to the worst possible start, conceding in the first minute.Taylor Smith replied midwaythrough the second half to levelthe scores at 1-1 before a heartbreaking exit conceding in thelast minute. With a lengthy absence fromleague football, Leafe will beback at home with fixturesagainst Deal Town on the 14thDecember and WoodstockSports on the 28th December, hoping to get the season backon track and concentrate ongetting promotion back to theRyman League.
