(( Knots )) A Faster way to Tie by Rissa

There are two things to get a bracelet finished earlier:- knot more often- knot faster.

For knotting faster it helps if you don't do one knot, put both strings away and pick up the next two strings to make the next knot in thhorizontal row, but if you knot by section (diagonally). ore often than not you only ha!e to search for the one next string that way, notwo, and it's easier to memorize the pattern if you don't see it as single knots but a structure of single pieces which interlock."nd if you memorize the pattern after a short time you don't ha!e to look at your pattern sheet that often which sa!es some time, a looat your already finished part of the bracelet might be enough, and e!en if you still ha!e to look at the sheet it helps to find the right pla

to look at if you remember that you #ust did fi!e fk with green at the right side of the bracelet - fi!e green knots should be easy to loca

$notting by section needs some practice though. %f you are one of the knotters who go by horizontal row it might be e!en slower in thebeginning. &ut trust me, it's really faster.% usually do a twel!e string bracelet in way less than hours, % made fi!e wide eltic style bracelets with -*+ strings in about a week&ut if % am forced to go by horizontal row (with tartan patterns for example) % need a lot more time.

ne of the easier patterns to start would be pattern /

as it is only a little more than a basic candystripe pattern.

First we ha!e a look at it to analyze how it works.

0ith the white strings you can make fk from top to bottom (red lines). "nd the pattern isn't #ust rows long, if you look at the pre!ieon top you can see that the white lines go all the way from top left to bottom right.

1o we want to make sure that you really can do as much of these knots, one after another.

2he colors also go from left to right, but there's a single white bk e!ery few rows. 2his means we can't #ust take the colors and make astripe all the way down, but ha!e to take care where the 3white dots3 ha!e to be.

" lot of people (most % know at least) ha!e learned to make candystripes by taking the outer left string and making fk to the outer righthen grab the new outer left string to make fk to the far right. 2his will produce a diagonal beginning, not a horizontal one, so the3triangle3 that's missing in the top right has to be filled first. "nd this is what we are going to do now.

1o when we want to knot that pattern section by section %'d start at ", make the first blue F$, then do the white 3stripe3 & (F$), then (two light blue F$), (the white 3dot3), (another two light blue F$) and so on. 2his 3triangle3 you knot from right to left will be thebase for any further 3stripes3 you want to knot.

0hen you do that you ha!e to remember one thing again4 the pattern is not #ust rows long. 5our bracelet will most likely be around+ rows in the end (that's how long mine are at least). 1o it would be stupid to stop this after rows like shown in the pattern pictur

2his picture shows some more rows with complete 3stripes3 from top left to bottom right.2here's also a clear scheme !isible where the white 3dots3 ha!e to be4 after fi!e colored knots there's one white dot. 2he orange 3stripestarts with a white 3dot3, then there are fi!e orange knots, another dot, fi!e orange knots and so on. "nd the dots are all in onehorizontal row which is easy to remember.

%t will really sa!e a lot of time knotting the pattern this way as you can do up to * knots in a row without putting the string aside, youonly ha!e to search for the second string, but that's easy to pick.

1o that has been a basic pattern to show, without really any interlocking. 2he next one will be only a little more complicated.

6ext one is pattern 77. %'!e repeated it se!eral times to make the pattern more ob!ious.

ou need to finish one section or one part first beore you can do the next - this is what % mean with interlocking.2he pattern is made out of se!eral basic 3pieces3,small diamonds -, big diamon

2his image shows the sections and the order in which they ha!e to be knotted4

    9/10

5ou ha!e to start with section +, it's #ust the rest of a big diamond, but this one's one important to remember.

    10/10

"fter + you start with the 3real3 pattern, the che!ron or 3fishtail3 ("). 5ou'd ha!e to start with " as you won't be able to make the firstknot of " otherwise. "fter finishing this che!ron you ha!e the base to do both side triangles & and &. "nd once you'!e finished theseyou can do the beginning of the big diamond and . $not the small diamond 8 after that, then finish the big diamond with 9 and9. 2hen you can start with " again.

&ut that's not the only way to knot this, there's also a different order you can do.:ook here4

5ou can see that in this case first the right side is done, then there are se!en knots made from one side of the bracelet to the other.

    2he next one is for temperancelu!r, it's pattern ;7
