And she was always telling me to stop it. “Acting the goat” meant lots of things, and even today I have a hard time putting into words what the behavior actually involved. It was “messing around” in general, and the end was usually not pretty: Mums yelling and me crying (and my sister laughing). Father Joe has not yet told me to stop, but he could, because I really have been acting the goat, especially in the last little while. Several weeks ago our own Deacon JC landed on the front cover of the monthly New Jersey Catholic magazine. You can imagine how happy I was to see that! Well, with age comes wisdom, and so I very quickly decided that it makes sense: “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” Knowing that my odds of getting on the cover of any magazine are a little worse than my chances of winning the Mega Millions and being struck by a piece of space junk, all in the same week, I chose not to pout but instead to lead the parade … And so I went to work. I must have made at least a hundred copies of that magazine cover, and I stuck them everywhere. I put them in frames, I taped them to doors, I hung them on walls. All shapes and sizes. Even a collage or two. They were everywhere: upstairs, downstairs, and in nearly every nook and cranny in between. I even bumped Pope Francis and replaced him with the smiling face (and great hair) of my little brother deacon. Of course, the point was to tease JC. But isn’t that what big brothers are supposed to do? Well anyway, this past week JC has been away on his priesthood ordination retreat, a few days for the seven “ordinandi” to catch their breath and spend some time in prayer before the big day. And by the time you read this, “Deacon” JC will be no more. It’s FATHER now. Which brings me (finally) to my point. On the afternoon JC left on retreat, I got it into my head: “It’s time,” I said to myself, “the pictures need to come down.” Why? Because now--like for all of us, but for JC in a special way--the words of John the Baptist about Jesus are most fitting. “He (Jesus) must increase, I must decrease.” That’s discipleship. That’s priesthood. Less “me.” More Jesus. The other day I spent some time with an old, retired priest, more than fifty years ordained. I asked him what he’d say to JC and his classmates, if he had five minutes alone with them. He thought for a long moment, and then he said, “I’d tell them it’s not about you. I’d tell them it’s about God. It’s about God’s people. It’s about helping them recognize their gifts, helping them develop their gifts, and giving them the chance to put their gifts to the service of the Church.” Father JC, I know, would be the very first to agree. It’s not about you. And it’s definitely not about me. It’s about us, all of us, together. It’s about Jesus. Jesus in the picture frames. Jesus on the walls. Jesus in our hearts. We pray for Father JC, and for the people he will be called to serve, on this happy weekend, and always. Peace and love, Fr. Colin

Mums (that’s what I called mommy) used to call it “acting the goat.” It wasn’t good. Those of you who’ve been in the rectory lately may have seen the evidence. Do you remember? Did you get a copy? Several weeks ago our own Deacon JC landed on the front cover of the monthly New Jersey Catholic magazine. You can imagine how happy I was to see that! Well, with age comes wisdom, and so I very quickly decided that it makes sense: “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” Knowing that my odds of getting on the cover of any magazine are a little worse than my chances of winning the Mega Millions and being struck by a piece of space junk, all in the same week, I chose not to pout but instead to lead the parade … And so I went to work. REFLECTION

VAN K. BROCK 1932-2017

Iridescent son,

I was never larger then

you on my shoulders.

I was all Prophets

You all Evangelists, we

Holier than Chartres.

Could not anyone

Have seen, through me or you, all

Light reunified?

Soon you will become

No larger than I am, I

No larger than you.

You’ll see me looking

At some bright, storied pierced light

And think it’s yourself.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS 7th Sunday of Easter

“I am praying for them...” (1 Peter 3:17)

Prayer is the foundation of our Faith and the foundation of Stewardship. Pray in good times and in bad. Prayer is always the first best option in any situation, not just the last resort. Pary for friends and family and for those that don’t treat you very well. Pray to give praise, to thank and to ask God for help. Pray to see what God wants you to do with the gifts He has given you.

During May, Pope Francis asks us to pray especially ...that Christians in Africa, in imitation of the merciful Jesus, may give prophetic witness to reconciliation, justice, and peace.

A Word from Pope Francis: The home is a crucial place in life, where

life grows and can be fulfilled, because it

is a place in which every person learns to

Word… St. Anne’s is a family of faith formed by the Word of God, especially as this is expressed in the person of Christ, in the

Scriptures, and in the Tradition of the Church. As we hear this word and take it more and more deeply into our lives, we become ever

more truly the People of God. If you have any comments, please feel free to contact any of the following Pastoral Council

The school offers a full-day kindergarten, as well as full-day pre-kindergarten for youngsters ages 3 and 4.

Miracle in the Rain We end this season's movie offerings with a black and white Hollywood classic that will tug at

your heart strings. Written by Ben Hecht and set in New York City during World War II, it tells a story about enduring love, loss, hope, friendship and faith. And as stated by the narrator at the end, I like to believe it's true.

Runtime: 108 min. Please join us!

We are grateful to the 1,256 people who worshipped with us last weekend and contributed $11,313.00 in the offertory and $2,818.00 through Online Giving offertory,

which along with other fees and donations totaled $18,201.00. Our weekly expenses average out to $20,348.00.

Heating & Air Conditioning ~ Everyone knows that there are some months in which our electricity bill or heating bill is higher than others.

Well, it’s the same with the Church. As you know, we use an additional way of paying for our extra energy

months. In the back of the church each Sunday you will find separate ENERGY envelopes. If you should

happen to hit the jackpot that week, and wish to throw a dollar or two in that envelope, we’d greatly appreciate

it! You can throw these special envelopes right in the collection with your regular envelope. The energy

envelopes will not be mailed to you. They will simply be in the back of the church, so if you don’t spot them, be

sure to ask the ushers at your Mass. Thanks.

Online Giving…

You have the opportunity to make donations to our Sunday collection online! To sign up, go to the St. Anne website – www.stannefairlawnnj.org

There are several ways to access the system: 1. Underneath the scrolling slideshow on the home page, on the bottom right-hand corner, you will

see a light blue icon with a $ sign. Click that icon to go directly to the system.

OR 2. From the homepage, check the left-hand menu options. The second to last menu option says

“envelopes & online giving.” Click that link, and a page with various giving options will appear.

Select the Online Giving option to be taken directly to the system.

Once you are taken to the new site, click on the section that says Create New Account. Next you will see New User Account Registration. Fill out the form and click “submit.” When you are enrolled, you can go into Manage My Account, where you will see My Payment Methods. Here you can choose to have the funds deducted from your checking or bank account (you will need your routing and account numbers on hand). Under Manage My Account, you will also see Give a New Gift. There you will decide when and how much to give. (In the list, Offertory Collection means the Sunday collection.) You can select recurring or one time gifts. You also have the option to access all the other special envelopes you would normally find in your envelope packet and which are generally one-time donations.

Each time you go to Mass, get a card that says “I have made my donation online” and put it in the collection when the usher comes around. Thanks so much for giving online!
