According to Cliff Higbee, chief of Downe Township Fire Rescue No.1, the Millville couple, who declined to give their names because they were embarrassed, had eaten at the Sun Dog Marina. Then they then decided to take a ride up the creek in their 19-foot aluminum boat. They were cruising north of the mari- na when they noticed their motor was pumping mud. He has printed out hundreds of fliers that read, “DEFIANT SON: WANTED,” along with a message to call 911 if anybody sees him, and he said that he handed out 300 of them while walking the city’s streets Thursday. “I just want to see a happy end- ing,” he said over the phone. “I’m not happy that he’s involved, but I want this to end as best as pos- sible.” The elder Wright said that Demetrius, 16, had been enrolled in Capital Academy in Cam- den, which was an alternative to incarceration for 43 charges, later reduced to 17, that he had received, including possession of a weapon and burglary. “It was so he didn’t have to go to Jamesburg (New Jersey Train- ing School for Boys),” he said. “He had been in there for three months and was doing very well, but over the past week he had bad performance reports. DOWNE TWP. — What started out as a simple boat ride on Nantuxent Creek ended up with an older couple stranded in the mud Thursday and fire and rescue groups from two townships trying to get them out.
