A few words from our Acting Principals…

Hello Everyone!

So far it has been a very busy term and a lot is happening around our school. Our

wonderful students are very busy rehearsing for our school production “Clowning

Around”. We are also getting ready for our KPS Mini Olympics next Wednesday

August 10th.

Tour of Kallista Primary

We would like to show you around our inspirational

school during a rehearsal of our Production “Clowning

Around” on Tuesday 9th of August.

Please feel welcome to join Principal Christine Finigan and Prep Teacher Kate

Nadji in a tour of Kallista Primary in action from 11.30- 12.30. This time will allow

for any questions you have on the way as we tour our class rooms, kitchen and

garden . Call us on 9755-2633 to confirm your place on this tour.

Chess Tournament

On Tuesday 26th July, a number of our wonderful Kallista students

participated in a whole day Chess Tournament. There were

students from several different schools in attendance, with each

student playing seven games throughout the tournament. The

tournament allows students to practise their chess skills and each student re-

ceived a certificate based on their score. Well done to everyone!!

Transition—Visit to Monbulk High School

As part of our very successful High School transition programme, the Year 5 chil-

dren visited Monbulk College on the 26th of July and August 2nd.

These sessions allow the Year 5 students to gain an insight into

what secondary college will be like. During the visits the students

complete an extended project with the same teacher. The Year 5

students used Lego Robotics to create creatures that could be pro-

grammed to respond to commands. The third and final session will take place at

Kallista as two Monbulk high school teachers will visit the school next week. In

2018 our Year Five children will be attending a broad range of high schools. Visits

to our local high schools now, are an excellent opportunity for the students to

explore their options in preparation for this.

Yarralin

We have been in touch with our students and teachers visiting Yarralin.

Here is what they had to say on our Kallista Primary School Facebook page.

Hello from the Northern Territory! The Yarralin group are traveling along extremely well.

It's day four of our journey down to Katherine. The kids have explored Litchfield National

Park, where they enjoyed swimming in waterholes that 'looked like Jurassic Park' and

visited the magnetic termite mounds just before sunset.

Today, during our second day in Kakadu, we were fortunate enough to explore the

Anbangbang region of the spectacular Nourlangie Rock which contains some of Australia's

most ancient Aboriginal rock art. A spot of rock climbing rewarded us with five

mysterious, large and beautiful galleries with layers of paintings. We are very thankful

that the local Aboriginal people allow visitors to enter these ancient and sacred sites in

this way. It was a very special experience.

From there had a look around the Warradjan cultural centre and then onto a sunset cruise

on the Kakadu River where local indigenous man, Rueben shared his incredible knowledge

and passion for his culture and land, introducing us to a huge variety of beautiful birds and

SO many salt water crocodiles who happily posed for photos.

Every day is a new adventure and we're learning so much along the way. Tomorrow

morning we pack up and head down to Katherine in readiness for our Yarralin school

experience where we'll be spending a week in school learning with the Yarralin kids and

teachers. We can't wait!

NOT MANY MORE SLEEPS TO GO!!!!

THE MINI-OLYMPICS ARE COMING TO KALLISTA

Couldn’t get tickets to the Rio Olympics? Don’t worry, it’s all happening here at Kallista.

Wednesday 10th August will be our Opening Ceremony and Activities and Friday 12th August

will be the Closing Ceremony at Assembly. Further instructions will be provided as we get closer

to the date. So many Nations will be represented on the day........Bolivia, Jamaica, Iceland,

Germany, France, Italy and many more. All students will be representing a country and

competing with true Olympic spirit under its National flag. Flags are being made at school the

week before so please check with your small Kallista Olympian as to what Country they are

representing. They will be informed by their classroom teacher shortly.

Our Mini-Olympic Day will begin with the assembly of our Olympic Nations in the GP Room for

the Opening Ceremony, lighting of the flame, athlete’s oath and explanation of competition

rules. Athletes will then move through activities based around Olympic events.......some more

serious than others.

As usual HELP IS NEEDED! If you can be an EVENTS JUDGE please provide the

information below to your child’s classroom teacher ASAP or write your name on the

whiteboard at the General Office. Not much is required as a judge. The activities will be

simple but fun, and a brief explanation is all that will be required. If you can count from 0 to

100 that would be a bonus. It will also be a great cultural experience for you to meet so many

athletes from such diverse nations.

A message from our tiqbiz team….

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have recently updated our app to improve our service to you. If you have since had an issue, perhaps your phone is older and also requires a software update to run it.

We do support all the way back to apple iOS 7.0 and above. If you have an iPhone 4 you should be able to update your software to over 7.0, if currently on 6.0. Here is a link on how to do that:

http://www.iphonehacks.com/install-ios-7-0-4-update-iphone-ipad

As for computer users, you should be able to use the computer version. If you are on Internet Explorer 9 or under you will need to install Chrome or Firefox on the computer and go to https://web.tiqbiz.com and login. This can also be used on a phone through the web browser.

People that have older phones can now use tiqbiz through a web browser.

Regards

The tiqbiz team
