3 a. What is to be done if sign of fire is noted? b. What is to be done if there is fire but no alarm is sounded? c. What is to be done if there is fire alarm triggered by the detectors?

C- If majority not aware at all B- Limited number of Workers and management staff A- Understanding constrained to certain conventional actions like wait for in charge, immediate evacuation etc.

B

a. In house training by trained core group and prevention measures to be put in practice as appropriate. b. Workers and management staff to be trained that alarm to be raised by call point if not raised by auto detectors. During drill, fire to be simulated in a floor and alarm to be raised by any worker in that floor manually. This will give confidence to workers. c. Initial small fire fighting to be done by designated fire fighter. If detectors trigger a fire alarm, all except fire fighting team must evacuate. Evacuation to be guided by Evacuation/Rescue team in each floor. Distinctive vest/arm bands to be worn by individual team for easy identification during emergency.

1 Raising alarm and announcement on PA system

C-No PA announcement about fire location B-PA announcement not audible Throughout the premises A-Clear, continuous PA announcement with proper location but phased evacuation was not done

C PA system announcement which includes fire location to be repeated and should be audible throughout the premises for quick and phased evacuation, ( PA System back up to be available)

2 Evacuation within 5 minutes

C- Evacuation more than 5 minutes B- Evacuation within 5 minutes but no phased evacuation A-Evacuation more than 5 minutes with phased system

B Although Evacuation timing was within 3 minutes but it was not in orderly manner. For facilitating phased evacuation, first the affected floor will be evacuated, then the floors above. Finally the floors below. Sequence, 1 floor at a time. But this is only achievable by regular drill. Phased evacuation in orderly manner will reduce the possibility of stampede.

3 Seriousness in the participation in the evacuation drill (Serious, Fun-making, or Careless)

C- Totally unmindful B-Careless and fun making A-Few were careless and sluggish

A Workers to be motivated by management staff to participate seriously in drill as same will elevate their response during emergency.
