A NOTE ON MENTAL HEALTH - ‘This Challenge’ is a self-help course. It is not a replacement for therapy, psychiatry or other mental health needs. It is very important that if you need a mental health professional you should get one. There is no shame in this. This is a very powerful course. If you need outside help, that outside help will only give this more power, but if you need outside help and you do this tool it may end up working against you.

BARE MINIMUM FOR TODAY - There’s a lot to these assignments. Many people do the challenges more than once so I include a rich philosophy, probably over explain things and it may take too much time for you. Because of this each day we will list the ‘bare minimum’ to each assignment if you just want to stick to that.

1) You finish your foundations checklist.

2) Post updates on the interactive message board.

THE CHALLENGE

This is a challenge I don’t want you to stop here. I want you to keep going. This is what we do…this challenge is based on ‘The Work’ that is a part of Men’s Development Excellence (MDX).

THE PURPOSE OF THIS CHALLENGE

Live your best life.

You signed up for this because you knew there was something more for you in the world…we are getting that.

I DO THIS I wrote this, I created this, I teach it…and I do it. I will screw up, I will fail, I will show you, but watch me…I do this, my groups do this, you can do this.

KILLING OFF WHAT IS KILLING YOU

We look deeply at ourselves so we can face ourselves. You can’t ignore your problems away, or distract your problems away…you can’t forget your problems away.

You need to face who you are and what that means in its entirety only then can you fix your problems. Only then can you be your best.

A man who cannot come to terms with who he is cannot expect to win the race of life while running from himself on the inside.

The good news is we do this…we have done this.

All of us here, not just me but everyone who is active in my groups. You will be just fine. I get it you want to leave now, I get it, you think this is a waste of time but the proof is there, it is not a waste of time. This is what works. It is time to stop listening to the part of you that is killing your dreams, your soul and passions.

Contact the 3 people in this group and tell them you’re about to dive deep into Day 2’s exercise. Tell them you may need to talk to them throughout the day.

Exercise 1 -

Today and tomorrow you will be taking the reality of your life and facing it.

First answer these questions in paragraph form - (You won’t share these answers with anyone)

Why are you where you’re at in your life? I want you to write about what got you here and why you are here. I want you to get real with yourself here. If your wife left you and you’re embarrassed, put it on paper. If you lost your job, put it on paper. If you have shame from being abused, put it on paper. Stop making excuses that this will not help you…do the work and we will show you where to go.

How has this killed your dreams? Get in touch with the blame we wrote about the other day. Write it all out. Do you hate yourself? Are you in a bad mindset

Who could you have been if you did everything right? I want you to write about any turning point events in your life that changed who you are. They changed your situation, they change your beliefs, they changed your reputation.

What have been the results this has had on my mind, body and spirit? If you’re atheist or an agnostic, great, me too! I’m agnostic. My spirit is easy to define. It is the part of me that generates my thoughts my creativity and persona. I see this purely in a biological way. If I am going to look at how this has affected me it would be easy. My brain and body have influenced my mind to have physiological traits of depression. My mind has influenced my body by being traumatized but the situation. My spirit and essence is gone from me, I have no identity and feel empty.

Make sense? Do it.

These are the things that eat away at you but never look at. I am sure there are more. Believe me if you stay working with us, we will get to them.

Sometimes you may have brought them to peace and years later the war comes back. This can be a tough exercise. Reach out to your support team. Let’s go to exercise 2.

Exercise 2 -

Your Values Everyone of us has things we believe in. We have things that we value like ‘honesty’ or ‘integrity’ but rarely do we explore them in our lives.

I want you to make a list of 3 values you live by -

Next we are going to define these values.

For all 3 values write out its definition to you.

Write our how and why you value it.

Write out how you live it daily.

Often times we fall short of actually living these values. We also haven’t explored them. If you continue with our learning here you will see that in order to truly value something you have usually needed to work for it. That means you didn’t always have it. We will get to this later in the courses but I also explain it briefly in the accompanying video for this.

Exercise 3 -

Daily Actions

If you have done the above 2 exercises I want you to get your support team on standby, you’re about to call them.

If you slacked and didn’t find your support team that isn’t a reason to quit this course, get that team now.

Take the biggest excuse you got from exercise 1 -

Exp -

My wife left me and my family is destroyed. I am depressed and feel like a failure.

Take your 3 values that you have defined and meditated on. Assign an action to counter and heal whatever your problem is. You’re literally taking your value to heal and mend your pain.

You will do this in these 3 categories and add an action based off your value to correct help heal them. This can be tough and one of the main reasons you want to be on the calls if they are available to you and have your support system.

Value - Honesty

Your Mind - My daily action based on honesty is to journal about what I am feeling daily and talk to someone I trust about it.

Your Body - My daily action for my body to heal from its depression while exercising the value of honesty will be to run for 30mins each day to destress.

Your Spirit - My daily action for my spirit based on honesty will be to help others daily being of service in a homeless shelter I volunteer at.

Remember being atheist or agnostic is not an excuse to quit.
