Block Assembly Note: The arrows figures represent the fabric print direction. Pay attention to the fabric and unit orientations when assembling the various components.1. Sew (1) 2 ½” x 22 ½” Fabric B strip to each side of the 43” x 22 ½” Fabric A panel. Sew (1) 2 ½” x 47” Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A panel. Trim the block to measure 45 ½” x 25 ½” to make the Unit 1 rectangle (Fig. 1).

2. Center (1) 6 ½” x 41” Fabric C strip on (1) side of the Unit 1 rectangle and pin in place. Start sewing the strip a ¼” from the top edge of the block and stop a ¼” from the bottom edge. DO NOT TRIM THE EXCESS. Repeat with the opposite side.

3. Repeat Step 2 to sew (1) 6 ½” x 61” Fabric C strip to the top and to the bottom of the Unit 1 rectangle, making sure to stop and start ¼” away from each end of the block. To miter each corner, fold the Unit 1 rectangle on a diagonal, wrong side together. This should line up the strips from adjacent sides (Fig. 2).

4. Starting at the sewn seam (represented by the arrow in Figure 2), draw a 45-degree line to the edge of the fabric. Sew on the drawn line. Trim the excess fabric leaving a ¼” seam. Repeat this step with the remaining corners to make the Center Block (Fig. 3).

5. Place the 12 ½” x 33 ½” Fabric F strip on a table, right side up. Place the 2” x 33 ½” Fabric I strip on the table, right side up, overlapping the bottom of the Fabric F strip about 1 ½” (Fig 4.).

6. Place pins through both layers of fabric to mark the edge of the bottom fabric and the top fabric (Fig. 5).

7. Take a fabric pencil and draw a gentle curved line on the top fabric, staying between the pins (Fig. 5). NOTE: The curve doesn’t have to be wavy. The wavier the curve the harder it is to sew.

8. Cut on the drawn line through both fabrics. Unpin the scraps from the fabric. Pick up both pieces of fabric and place them right sides together. Slowly sew them together, easing the curves together as you go (Fig. 6) . Press open to make (1) Unit 2 strip (Fig. 7). Repeat to make a second Unit 2 strip.

14. Place (1) 2 ½” Fabric F square on the top half of (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric D strip, right sides together and aligning the tops of the (2) fabrics (Fig. 9). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 9). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 10). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance.

15. Place another 2 ½” Fabric F square on the bottom half of the 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric D strip, right sides together, aligning the bottoms of the (2) fabrics (Fig. 11). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 11). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 3 strip (Fig. 12).

16. Repeat Steps 14-15 to make (16) Unit 3 strips total.

17. Repeat Steps 14-15 and refer to Figure 13 for fabric identification, placement and seam direction to make (16) Unit 4 strips.

18. Sew (1) Unit 3 strip to the left side of (1) Unit 4 strip lengthwise to make (1) Unit 5 square (Fig. 14). Repeat to make (16) Unit 5 squares total.

9. Following the manufacturer’s instructions, trace the listed number of each template onto the paper side of the fusible web. Roughly cut out each template about 1/8” outside the drawn lines. 10. Press each template onto the wrong side of the fabrics as listed on the templates. Cut out each template on the drawn lines.

11. Refer to Figure 8 to arrange and press the (2) large trees, (2) large tree trunks, (1) small tree and (1) small tree trunk onto (1) Unit 2 strip.

12. Finish the raw edges of each shape with a decorative stitch such as a buttonhole or satin stitch to make (1) Block One rectangle.

13. Repeat Steps 11-12 to make a second Block Two rectangle.

26. Sew (1) Block Two square to each end of (1) Block One rectangle. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

27. Sew (1) 2” x 64 ½” Fabric D strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 2” x 60 ½” Fabric D strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

28. Sew (1) 6 ½” x 67 ½” Fabric G strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 6 ½” Fabric J square to each end of (1) 6 ½” x 60 ½” Fabric G strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top.

29. Layer and quilt as desired.

30. Sew the (8) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric D strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.
