unregistered player .Another leader, ANZ Bank Reserves, could manage only a draw. There was a big re-shuffle in E Section, where not one of the 10 teams

s in the same position on the ladder as it was last week .

Parade's small men dominated theame against St. Bernard's and wit h

parade winning around the packs, thet, aders were in trouble .

The first half was fairly even withParade leading by 4 points at the In-lerval, but the third quarter was theturning point, when Parade held theiropponents to one goal with the windand kicked three themselves .

St . Bernard's came back in the lastterm but Parade finished well and theiraccurate kicking (17-7) was anotherwinning factor .

Old Trinity, using their height to ad-vantage, took an' early lead overMonash Blues, who hit back with aburst of 7 goals in the second quarterto be within 10 points at half-time .

But Trinity went away again in thesecond half and won by 4 goals .

University Blacks led Coburg byonly 2 points at the interval, but start-ed to take control in the third termand went on to a comfortable win .

North Old Boys got a big lead onReservoir Old Boys in the first term, kicking 7-4 to 1-1, and were still 3goals in front at half-time .

THE AMATEUR FOOTBALLER-JUNE 7, 1975

North looked set for an easy winwhen they started the last quartermore than 6 goals in front but Reser-voir finshed strongly and were beatenby only 2 goals .

Geelong gained an early break onOrmond when they kicked 7-2 to 3-3in the opening quarter and still ledby a goal at the halfway mark, butOrmond gradually wore them downand were winners by over 7 goals .

Calufield Grammarians finished toostrongly for Marcellin and won an in-teresting game by 32 points, but theresult was in doubt until more thanhalf of the last term had elapsed .

Caulfield led by 13 points at the in-terval after a good second quarter andMarcellin were only 7 points in frontat three-quarter-time with Caulfieldto have the wind advantage in thefinal term.

Marcellin fought the game out well, but Caulfield were too tall and toostrong for them. Caulfield should havehad the game sewn up much earlier, but unnecessarily hurried kicking pro-duced only a series of points, where-as a-bit more steadiness might wellhave given them goals .

- 'ANOTHER "BURGER" FROM WAY BACKLast week we featured Coburg,s "new" coach Graham warfe, who has really bc-enassociated with the club since he was five.Today, we have another Coburg personality lined up in star rover, Norm Beattie

.

1965, butjoinlaededCo bnlur

g y haifuthesseasonew3otinithem before he was promoted to the seniorswhen he was 17 years old, and he has neverlooked back.

He has played more than 180 club gameswith Coburg and all being well, will jointhe celebrated '200 club" next season .

Unlike Graham Warfe, who claims thathe has layed in almost every position onthe fieldp Norm's vital statistics (5 feet 7inches and 10 stone) virtually dictate thathe must be a rover .

This is confirmed by those who haveseen his elusiveness on the field - hisability to "shark" the hit-out from opposingrucks, his ability to slip away from theopponent whose task it is to "mind" him,his ability to make every kick count .

The Victorian selectors have noticed thisfor he has been a member of the Victorianside on five occasions, and includes twoCarnival series among his achievements -at Perth in 1970 and at Melbourne in 1973 .h too - for

The the AS Section est and1FaireO awardin two successive seasons - 1969 and 1970 .Norm was -adjudged "The Amateur Foot-

bailer of the Year" in 1969 for The SportingGlobe and would have been well in therunning the following year but for the factthat it is not our policy to name the sameplayer more than once for this title.

He has also won his club's Best and Fair-est award three times .

In addition to his appearances with Vic-torian teams, Norm was also a member ofthe Australian Amateurs team in 1970, which

competed in the Australian Football CouncilSection 2 Championships in Brisbane .He gets his fair share of goals and is

considered by Graham 'Warfe to be the bestplayer for his size that he has been assoc-iated with . It's just as well they both play-ed for Coburg otherwise Graham must havealso given Norm a mention as one of thehardest men to mind .

Norm is now 27, and there is still a lotof football in him - plenty I'm sure tocarry him beyond that coveted 200 gamesmark.
