The Community Job Fair Readiness Workshop GOAL The purpose of the Job Fair Readiness Workshop is to bring awareness to strategies that will be beneficial to those who are seeking a job. OPTIMIZING RESOURCES Upon reviewing the workshop, you will acquire confidence in being aware of required job skills and utilize avenues to fruitful employment leads in the community. UTILIZING RESOURCES Through the workshop, individuals will learn how to maximize their personal employment growth and present themselves as a well-rounded individual. IDENTIFYING JOB LEADS Successful ways of identifying job leads are listed as follows: Visible Job Market, Newspaper Ads, Employment Services, Online Job Search and the Chamber of Commerce. JOB SEARCH STRATEGIES These strategies involve performing a self-assessment, establishing goals and expectations and searching the company’s history. In addition, the person will be able to determine the employer’s expectations as well as their perspective. RESUME WRITING Following the guidelines in successful resume writing to ensure employer interest and a sample of a professional resume’. RESUME TIPS & SAMPLE RESUME’ A list of rules and guidelines on effective resume writing. JOB INTERVIEW QUESTIONS Being aware of varying questions an employee could ask and the ability to respond appropriately. Optimizing Resources

Optimizing resources in a job search entails utilizing essential components in helping you organize a plan of action that will lead to a job possibility. First of all, you will need to write out everything you are looking for in a job. Things such as benefits which can include retirement, paid vacations, or a 401-K plan, a pension, paid leave with pay, for females, maternity leave as well as for males. There are several lists of resources on the designated pages in this booklet that are useful in researching fringe benefits from the company you are interested in working for. Components such as Google Chrome, the Internet, Facebook, and various Website Media are excellent tools in optimizing resources.

Utilizing Resources

After compiling a list of resources, it is a good practice to prioritize the resources. Rank the list from greatest to the least resource and start researching the company’s history and the things that they have to offer to their employees. Resources are assets to be used in maximizing job opportunities that are aligned with the job seeker objectives. Resources are things such as effective communication, tolerant attitude, high standards, and a search for knowledge. These are important assets to bring to employment.

Identifying Job Leads

In looking for job leads, a person can use Social Networks, The Want Ads, Social Media, Email alerts from a Job Board, attend a Job Fair, mingle with your Circle of Influence, and visit your local Chamber of Commerce. Sometimes, going in and out of department stores you may notice a sign that says “Now Hiring”. Also, signing up with your local Labor Finders or Labor Ready Job Agencies offer temporary employment that often leads to full time employment.

Job Research Strategies

A good job strategy to use is to make sure that you are looked upon as being an outstanding person. In doing this, your chances of being selected by the manager for an interview is greatly enhanced. One must also focus their efforts on job sites that involve recruitment. In addition, prepare a port-folio and ensure that your

resume’ is a professional resume and remember to stay focused on the task at hand.

Resume Writing A resume is a document used to summarize a job seeker’s experience and qualifications for a prospective employer. The resume includes the job seeker’s contact information, work experiences, education, and relevant skills in support of a job application. A resume is required by most companies

and are relatively short at just one or two pages in length. In actuality, a resume is a summary of your profile, work history, work experiences, your educational background, acquired skills, and life accomplishments.
