We recommend that the online enrolment process is followed. A guide to MVM enrolment for previous Massey students who are new to the MVM This guide has been prepared to streamline your Massey University enrolment. We recommend that the online enrolment process is followed. Most of the forms are straight-forward to complete but as the MVM papers are totally extramural our notes below may help clarify some aspects of the forms for you.

Step 1: Check admission requirements Before completing the forms please check you meet the admission requirements as outlined in Appendix 1. This is not required if your previous Massey degree is a veterinary degree.

Step 2: Collect the information you need about your papers and programme of study The second thing to do is choose and take note of the papers and programme you wish to study. You should consult the information available on the http://mvm.massey.ac.nz website on the papers and qualifications page. A short link to this page is:

Take note of the following information which you will need to complete the online enrolment:

The number and name of the paper(s) you wish to study (eg: 195.756 Canine and Feline Neurology).

The year each paper is next offered (eg: 2010)

The semester the paper is offered (eg: semester 2)

The programme or qualification you would like to enrol in. You need to choose something at the beginning but can change it later if you like. (eg: Master of Veterinary Medicine).

If you have chosen the MVM or PGDipVCS programmes you may wish to nominate an endorsement (eg: small animal surgery). You can choose or change this at a later date.

Check that you have your Massey ID and PIN. If you have lost or mislaid your previous PIN contact Massey at: https://enrolnow.mymassey.com/onlineenrolment/MUOEForgottenPin.aspx

Step 3: Online enrolment To start the Online Enrolment procedure click on this link: http://www.massey.ac.nz/massey/admission/enrolment/webenrol/

Enter your Massey ID together with your PIN in Step 2.

(If you have not had an ID card with a photo image since 1999 complete Apply for a Student ID Card form and supply a photo.)

You will be taken to the following screens:

Check that personal details and additional questions in next two screens are correct. Update if any information has changed.

Type in the programme you wish to enrol in (either in full or abbreviated form): • Certificate of Proficiency Science or

COP Science • Postgraduate Certificate in Science or

PG Cert Sc • Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary

Clinical Science or PG Dip VCS • Master of Veterinary Medicine (MVM)

Click on Search.

Note that you can change the programme later if you wish.

You can obtain more information on these programmes on the qualifications page of the http://mvm.massey.ac.nz website.

Now click on next to go to Programme of Study

Programme of Study will show your previous programme studied at Massey.

If you need to change the programme click on “Change main” under the year of your planned study and you will be taken to the following screen.

Select your year of study and click on Next

Specific instructions follow for each of the different programmes. If you selected: :

• Certificate of Proficiency(COP Science) go to page 4

• Postgraduate Certificate of Science (PGCertSc) go to page 4

• Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Sciences (PGDipVCS) go to page 5

• Master of Veterinary Medicine (MVM) go to page 6

Certificate of Proficiency

Now go to Select your papers on page 7 of these instructions.

Postgraduate Certificate of Science (PGCertSc)

Your chosen programme shows here.

As there isn’t a major for a Certificate of Proficiency (Science) click in the tick box to select “Without Major”

Click on Accept selections

You will see in the “Programme of study” shot that your chosen programme of Certificate of Proficiency (Sciences) is showing. This can be changed at a later stage if required.

Click on Next to select your papers

Your chosen programme shows here. A list of Majors/endorsements will display.

Select “Without major” towards the bottom of the list (a green tick will show). You will be able to choose an endorsement later if you wish.

Click on “Accept selection” at bottom of this screen which takes you to the Programme admission screen below.

Now go to Select your papers on page 7 of these instructions.

Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Sciences (PGDipVCS)

In this screen your proposed programme will show. Click on Select

You will be returned to this screen which shows your selected Main programme of study. You do not need to select a secondary programme.

Click on Next to select your paper(s).

The screen will change to ask you to select a major/endorsement. You will be able to choose an endorsement later if you wish. Select “Without Major” (a green tick will show).

Then click on Accept selections.

Click the first option.

Note that once you click Next you cannot return to this page.

Now go to Select your papers on page 7 of these instructions.

Master of Veterinary Medicine

Programme of Study will show your planned programme as Master of Veterinary Medicine. You do not need to select a secondary programme.

Click on Next to go to the Papers screen

Click the first option.

Note that once you click Next you cannot return to this page.

Click on Next

After clicking on Next you will be returned to this screen which shows your Main programme of study. You do not need to select a secondary programme.

Click on Next to select your paper(s).

The screen will ask you to select a major/endorsement. Select “Without Major” (a green tick will show).

You will be able to choose an endorsement later if you wish.

Click on Accept selections.

Select your papers

Click on Add papers.

Type in your paper number or key word and click on Search.

Note: Leave semester, location and mode blank.

The screen changes to show the results of the search. Choose the paper you want to study and click on “Select”.

The screen has changed to show the results of the search. Choose your paper by clicking on “Select”.

The screen changes to show more detail about the paper.

Tick “Main Programme” (shows a green tick)

Then click on “Add selected papers”

If you plan to attend the contact course tick “Register” (shows a green tick).

You can leave registration for the contact course until later if you wish (by going on to My Massey).

Click on Next.

This screen shows the paper you currently have selected.

At this stage you can select other papers by repeating the process from the heading “Select your paper(s).

Examination venue At the bottom of this screen select your preferred venue to sit your exam either in New Zealand or overseas.

If you are sitting your exam in New Zealand select the most suitable venue clicking the drop-down arrow and choosing from the locations offered.

If you are sitting your exam overseas click on “Show Overseas venues”. Select the most suitable venue by clicking the drop-down and choosing from the locations offered.

Click on Next.

Timetable Click on next – this screen does not apply to extramural study

Fees Select the option that applies to you. If you live in New Zealand your option will be “Extramural and Block”.

If you are living overseas and have a Massey veterinary degree you will select “Extramural and Block – Overseas”.

If you wish, you can click on “Display 2010 fee information” to get an indication of your fees.

View and check that: • your selected programme is

showing • the selected paper(s) are showing • that status shows as “Not yet

submitted”. Confirm and click on Next

Student Declaration – read, respond (by clicking “Yes” to accept) and submit.

You will now briefly see a confirmation screen and then immediately receive an email from [email protected] with the heading “Massey University Registration Confirmation”

What happens next?

Enrolments: Enrolling can take up to six weeks from start to finish, or slightly longer during peak times, so it is good to start the process well ahead of the beginning of the semester when your paper is due to begin.

If you have any concerns regarding your enrolment or it is over six weeks since you applied online and sent in your Application for Postgraduate Study form (and verified documents if required) we recommend you contact Massey University by phone to see how your enrolment is progressing:

Confirmation of enrolment Once your enrolment has been accepted you will be sent a Confirmation of Enrolment Form in the post. This contains the following information:

Confirmation of your approved papers Any papers that could not be approved or that you withdrew from (the reason is

shown) Confirmation of your course of study and major Dates you may withdraw from papers without financial and academic penalties.

Payment of fees If you have not paid your fees by the start of the semester, Massey University will send an invoice at the beginning of the following month. Payment on the invoice is due within 30 days. Please note these estimates are a guide only and are subject to change, but it will give you an idea of what your final invoice will be including non-tuition fees. The list below shows non-tuition fees likely to apply to students in the MVM programme.

Changing your programme or paper choice After your enrolment is complete, if you want to make changes to your programme and paper choices you can use Online Enrolment at any time up until you start study. We recommend that you make any changes early to avoid delays in providing you with study materials. Please note you may not receive an additional Confirmation of Enrolment Form for all changes that you make.

You will need to enter your student number and PIN. If you have mislaid these details get in touch with Massey Contact using the details below. Massey Contact will also be able to advise you on the status of any changes. Please contact Massey on:

Course materials: These will be posted once your enrolment is completely processed (please make sure we have your correct address!). Your materials include an administration guide which tells you all you need to know about how the course will be run and what you need to do by any particular time. Have a good look through it when your materials arrive. You should receive these materials two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Online materials: Online materials will first become available to you through your class website on day one of the semester your paper commences and access continues until the end of the following semester. The administration guide in your course materials will explain how to access your class website. Textbooks: Details of any textbooks you need are on the detailed pages about each paper on the MVM website at http://mvm.massey.ac.nz . Link to these detailed pages from the papers and qualifications page.

If the paper you are doing requires a textbook, Bennetts bookshop at Massey will usually have these in stock and will be able to get the text to you quickly. It is also possible to purchase your texts directly from the publishers over the internet.

Student ID card: If you haven’t got a Massey University student ID card, you may find it useful to get one, particularly if you plan to use the Massey library or attend a contact course. For details about getting an ID card please see Appendix 3.

Contact courses: We hope you will plan to come to the contact course in Palmerston North. While not compulsory these are worth the trip to Palmerston North. You will be able to get more information about them on your class website and the MVM website http://mvm.massey.ac.nz

APPENDIX 1: Who can enrol?

You can study papers(courses) in the MVM programme if:

• You are a veterinarian in any country with a degree considered equivalent to that of Massey’s AVMA-accredited veterinary degree OR you have passed a suitable qualifying examination.

• You work in clinical practice

• English is your first language OR you have passed an English exam

• You have access to a computer and the internet

Veterinary degree requirements Veterinary degrees considered equivalent to Massey’s Bachelor of Veterinary Science are those from the following universities (arranged by country). They all allow you to enter the MVM programme.

• Australia — Melbourne, Murdoch, Queensland, Sydney

• Canada — Guelph, Montreal, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan

• Ireland — National University of Ireland (if the degree is from 1988 or before, or 2004 on)

• Netherlands — Utrecht

APPENDIX 2: Extramural and Block Examination Venue Registration Form and changing examination venue This form can be completed online as part of the enrolment process, or later with your Student ID and PIN information at www.mymassey.com. Select Online Enrolment, enter your ID details and then select Exam Venues: https://enrolnow.mymassey.com/onlineenrolment.REG/muoecontactdetail.aspx

Changing exam venue If you need to request a change to the exam venue read the information by going to https://enrolnow.mymassey.com/onlineenrolment.REG/muoecontactdetail.aspx and clicking on Exam Venues. If necessary contact Massey at [email protected] .

Requests for changes must be made as early as possible, preferably at least three months before the scheduled exam date.

Include your ID number and your old and new venue on all requests for a change of exam venue.

APPENDIX 3: Massey University ID card A Massey ID card includes your student ID number, legal name, a barcode and photograph of yourself. A student ID card can be used at other Massey campuses, for exam ID or for using Massey library facilities.

An ID card is useful to have when sitting exams, or if you plan to attend the contact courses in Palmerston North. If you use the library you must have an ID card and it will be easier if you already have a card. An ID card may also help you get a discount rate for accommodation and free bus travel in Palmerston North.

While it is not compulsory for an extramural student to have an ID card as there is no cost and it is easy to obtain we recommend that you have one.

The link for the Request for Student ID card is http://www.massey.ac.nz/?aaec12223n . There is no cost to getting a card.

APPENDIX 4: To get a Student PIN number To access your online class materials and the library you need to go on the Massey website. Check that you have your PIN no. If it has been mislaid you will need to get another PIN no.

To obtain your PIN no. you may go straight to the following link and complete the fields shown in the second screenshot below: https://enrolnow.mymassey.com/onlineenrolment/MUOEForgottenPin.aspx

Alternatively, on the Massey home page http://www.massey.ac.nz/ click on Admission, then Online Enrolment:

Go to Step 2 and click on “Request your PIN online”

Even though you haven’t “forgotten your PIN” because you may not have received one, click on Request your PIN online.

You will now be able to use your Student ID and PIN to access Stream (under Learning, Online Learning) on the Massey home page.

Another way to get your PIN is to get in touch with Massey Contact and they will arrange your PIN:

Complete the fields in this screen. Your student ID will be on other Massey documentation, such as your Confirmation of Place or Confirmation of Enrolment.

Click on “Request PIN” at the bottom of the screen. Your PIN will then be emailed to you.
