Energy efficiencySpray foam is a speedy, efficient insulation solution coupled

with significantly lower U-values than other conventional

insulation materials.

Spray foam has a thermal conductivity as low as 0.025W/mK.

Air tightnessThe continuous spray leaves a minimal amount of surface area

without insulation resulting in an airtight building envelope of low

permeability, and without the need for supplementary material.

The foam is fast to apply and quick to cure. Spray foam

therefore offers the specifier an all in one solution to meet and

exceed latest Building Regulations requirements.

SustainabilityBy virtually eliminating air leakage, spray foamhelps control the

movement of vapour and moisture throughout the building,

reducing the risk of condensation and mould. Sustainable over the

life span of the building, spray foam can even prolong the

buildings life as it protects against premature deterioration of

building materials.

Design freedomSpray foam also provides the specifier with complete design

freedom as the spray foam adapts to the shape of the substrate

providing an ideal solution for insulating difficult areas such as

profiled and curved roofs.

Technical support is available via our in-house team and

external retained consultants.

Occupier comfortFor building occupiers, spray foam makes a significant

contribution to a comfortable indoor climate by creating a

draft free environment that prevents the infiltration of pollutants,

toxins and allergens.

ReliabilityBASF spray foam is only installed by BASF-trained professionals.

A nationwide network of Approved Contractors is available

throughout the UK and Ireland.

Key benefits of using sprayfoam systems

Foam MastersApproved Contractors

Every high performing system requires highperformance installation to guarantee satisfaction. In order to ensure the highest standard application,BASF spray foam systems can only be installed byfully trained and qualified spray Foam Masters. A Foam Master is part of a well established andgrowing consortium of independent local spray foamcontractors across Ireland and the UK.

BASF Approved Spray Foam Contractor

FOAM MASTERS

Before receiving the Foam master accolade contractorsmust attend a rigorous training programme located at theBASF Training Centre in Alfreton. The training programmeincludes application techniques, building regulations, health and safety requirements and much more.Graduating from the Foam Master academy takes timeand commitment. Upon completion each contractor isissued with a photo identity card and entry to part of theFoam Master database.

Why choose a Foam Master?

Foam Masters have become highly skilled installers of theBASF spray foam product range, guaranteeing the clientthat the project will be completed to the highest quality andwith the best product available. Each Foam Master is alocal independent contractor with a local reputation tomaintain and as part of the Foam Master network, offersconsistent level of service and quality throughout Irelandand the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are polyurethane foams applied?

Our polyurethane systems consist of two component sprayapplied foams and are installed by trained applicators withspecialist spray foam equipment.

What are the differences between low density open-cell and higher density closed cell foams?

Open cell foam is applied as a liquid and typically expandsto 100 times its original volume to form a semi rigid flexiblenon structural insulation with a thermal conductivity of0.037W/mK. Closed cell foam is applied also as a liquidand typically expands 35 to 50 times it original volume toform a rigid structural insulation with a thermal conductivityof 0.025W/mK. BASF closed cell foam has a closed cellcontent of greater than 90%.

Is foam airtight?

Yes, both open cell and closed cell spray and injectionpolyurethane foam have been independently tested forairtightness and performed exceptionally well as air barrierswith figures as low as 0.028m³/hr.m².

Is spray foam insulation breathable?

Yes both open and closed cell foams are vapourpermeable, allowing vapour diffuse through the system.Open cell is more vapour open than closed cell with a µ factor of 3.2. Unlike open cell foam, closed cell foam iswater tight and impervious to water penetration. Liquid water has much larger structure and is unable topass into or through a closed cell foam barrier.

Is spray foam fire rated?

Our BASF closed cell foams are Class 1 surface spread offlame tested to BS476: Part 7. Our open cell productachieved a Class E under the Euroclass single flame fireclassification system.

Can spray foam be applied to non breathable roofing felt?

No. Spray foam should not be applied to non-breathableroofing felt regardless of type in line with buildingregulations requirements and good building practice. Such membranes behave as vapour barriers. A vapourpermeable slide should be used to maintain a ventilationvoid between the insulation layer and roof membrane.

Can spray foam be applied to breathable roofing felt?

In the case of open cell foam applications spray insulationcan be applied directly to breathable roof membraneswhere a counter-batten has been installed between theroof tile or slate batten and roofing membrane. In certaincircumstances closed cell foam may be applied directly tobreathable roofing felts without the need for a counterbatten. Please consult our technical department forinformation relating to your specific construction.

What is the insulation u-value of your system?

The U-value is calculated by adding the thermal resistanceof each material within an element to find the total heatresistance and then calculating the reciprocal of this valueto establish the total heat loss associated with theelements (wall, roof etc.) represented as a U-value.

Will sealing my building with spray foam insulationaffect the air quality of my building?

Spray foam insulation will help to provide and air tightbarrier to the envelope of your building thereby eliminatingunwanted air penetration and heat loss. However thequality of the air inside your building should be consideredseparately and will depend on controlling the level ofventilation by using mechanical or natural passiveventilation systems.
