Introduction

Begin your class with prayer and then welcome everyone to this new book of quiet times. Have the people in your group share their names and what brought them to the study. Make sure

each person in your group has a book. Also, gather contact information for all participants in your group including name, address, phone number, and e-mail. That way you can keep in touch and encourage those in your group.

Familiarize your group with the layout of the book. Each week consists of five days of quiet times, as well as a devotional reading and response for days 6 and 7. Each day follows the PRAYER quiet time plan:

Prepare Your HeartRead and Study God’s WordAdore God in PrayerYield Yourself to GodEnjoy His PresenceRest in His Love

Journal and prayer pages are included in the back of the book. Note that the quiet times offer devotional reading, Bible study, prayer, and practical application. Some days are longer than oth-ers so be sure to encourage your group to study at their own pace. Days 6-7 are for catching up, review, etc. This is a concentrated, intentional journey to experience radical intimacy with God. Encourage your group to interact with the study, underline significant insights, and write com-ments in the margins. Encourage your group to read the Introduction sometime the first day. Also point out that the Introduction includes a place where they will write a letter to the Lord. Encourage them to draw near to God each day and ask Him to speak to their hearts.

You can determine how to organize your group sessions, but here’s one idea: Discuss the week of quiet times together in the first hour, break for ten minutes, and then watch the message on the companion DVD. There are nine messages for A Heart That Dances—one for the introduction and one for each week. You might also share with your group a summary of how to prepare for their quiet time by setting aside a time each day and a place. Consider sharing how time alone with the Lord has made a difference in your own life. Let your class know about the Quiet Time Ministries website at www.quiettime.org and also Ministry For Women at www.ministryforwomen.com.

Another option is to divide each week (completing the study in 16 weeks) by discussing Days

Page 8: A Heart That Dances - Leader Guide · a heart that dances. Week Two: Journey to the Heart of God — Hosea Share with you group that this week you will discover together the life

J Discussion Questions j

8

1–3 one week and Days 4–7 another week. This allows your group to journey through each quiet time at a slower pace.

Pray for one another by offering a way to record and exchange prayer requests. Some groups like to pass around a basket with cards that people can use to record prayer requests. Then, people take a request out of the basket and pray for someone during the week. Others like to use three by five cards and then exchange cards on a weekly basis.

Close this introductory class with prayer, take a short break, and then show the companion DVD message.

Week One: The Invitation to Intimacy — Psalm 46:10Today we begin our journey of sharing on one of the great topics of the Christian faith:

intimacy with God. We will have the opportunity to look at many different men and women of God and how they related to the Lord. The real question will be for those in your group: where are you in your relationship with the Lord and where do you want to be? Are you willing to pay the price in time and energy to draw near and know God? In this first week, we looked at God’s invitation to intimacy that is found throughout the Bible. As you begin, you might ask those in your group how the study is meeting them at the present time in their lives. Then ask those in your group what meant the most to them in the Introduction to the study?

day 1: Personal RelationshipYou might begin this first week of discussion with a brief overview of what everyone studied.

You might say something like: This week we are looking at how our hearts catch on fire for Jesus.

1. Open your discussion with prayer. Ask any new members of your group to intro-duce themselves. Share the goal of these quiet times: to experience radical intimacy with the Lord and to have a heart that dances. This week we are looking at the meaning behind the words: Be still and know God. In the first day we saw that God is inviting us to a personal relationship. If you were to explain to someone else how to enter into that personal relationship what would you say?

2. Would someone like to share how you came to the point of entering into a personal relationship with the Lord?

3. As you looked at Psalm 46:10, what is your favorite part of that verse?

4. What did you learn about God’s invitation to a personal relationship in the verses you studied?
