CCPPNS ConventionBuilding our Future Together: Learn • Teach • Grow

The California Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools will be hosting their annual convention at the LAX Radison on Friday March 14th and Saturday March 15th. Topics focus on parenting and education for preschool - elementary age children and their families. This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge of parenting and educational techniques to incorporate into your own family.

There are even have some Family Sessions where your preschool-aged children can attend with you, such as “Playing with Geometry,” “Movement and Breath Yoga,” “Creativity with Clay,” and “Animal Style Fun — Function and Movement.”

The keynote speaker is Alfie Kohn, author of many renowned parenting and education books, including Punished by Rewards: The Trouble with Gold Stars, Incentive Plans, A’s, Praise, and Other Bribes. Mr. Kohn is speaking on both Friday and Saturday, so everyone will have the opportunity to attend one of his presentations.

Childcare is available, hosted by a parent participation nursery school, for $35 per day ($35 for the second child) for children ages 2 years, 9 months - 6 years old.

The convention costs $95 for one day or $130 for both days. (*Additional $20 fee if you register after Feb. 28th!)

Because we have many allergies this year we have been making gluten free play dough. It turns out to be soft and smooth.

RECIPE FOR GLUTEN-FREE PLAY DOUGHINGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup rice flour 1/2 cup salt 1/2 cup cornstarch 2 tsp crm of tartar 1 cup water 1 tsp vegetable oil Food coloring (concentrated gel works the best)

DIRECTIONS:

Mix ingredients. Cook and stir on low heat for 3 minutes or until it forms a ball. Cool completely before storing in a sealable plastic bag.

If playdough dries out a bit, just add a bit more oil and knead until smoother. Enjoy!

When the light is green you go

When the light is red you stop.

But what would you do

When the light turns blue

With Orange and Lavendar spots?

I asked each child what they would do if the light was this color, and here were their responses:

– Go, stop, go, stop, go!

– turn in circles

– Dance silly

– I would go crazy, and turn around on the wrong street

– Turn around and go another place

– Go zig zag

– Get out of the car and beep your horn

– I’d freeze for 20 seconds, then go fast!

– Dance party!

– Go fast and slow

TykesBykes was founded just over four years ago after being frustrated with bicycle options while shopping for our own children. We wanted to provide an opportunity for our children to play outdoors with the added benefit of learning a new skill, getting exercise, and having fun. Our business has grown out of that premise: Encourage a healthy lifestyle that is safe, family-focused and above all...FUN!

TykesBykes balance bikes are bicycles without pedals, teaching the rider how to balance first. Once the child learns how to balance, you will see them coast, lifting their feet and really learning how to ride.

Visit our website TykesBykes.com for more information, or email us at [email protected].

10% of the sale, on your TykesBykes balance bike, will be donated back to Hilltop for all families using the code: HILLTOP.

We appreciate your support and hope to see you on the trail! ~ The Harris Family
