In a general term,Virtualization allows you torun multiple operatingsystems on a single computer,all at the same time.

More Specifically,Virtualization is the creation ofa virtual (rather than actual)

Host PC on which Virtual PCs will be loaded

Operating System running on Physical PC is calledHost Operating System

Guest Virtual PCs will be called Guest Operating System running on Virtual PC is called

Guest Operating System

Note that there is a 5-20% performance penaltyfor virtualizing. However, the performancepenalty is rarely noticeable if the virtual server issized properly.

How virtualization can help?

You can use virtualization for testing yourapplication in different environment/OS. Like inone VM you can have Win XP + IE 6.0, anothercan have Win Vista + Firefox 2.0, and another

can have Linux with Chrome.

You can use snapshots so that you can revertback to the stage where the error occurred

without affecting your current work.

You can create a video of your VM so others canknow when the errors occurred.
