Theme: “ A Journey Worth Taking..”

Recently Fr. Gilbert Otieno Omolo, C.P., from Kenya, spoke about going on Safari. “Safari” is a

Swahili word meaning “to take a Journey”. For the African, “Safari” is not a vacation involving

planes, trains and automobiles. One journeys by foot over long distances accompanied

by a well qualified guide. The journey may lead the traveler into jungles, plains of long grass, or

other new and strange territory. But the traveler always knows where s/he started

and the journey always has a goal.

Our journey began in infancy and developed over many years as we were, or were not, introduced

to the central beliefs and practices of Christian faith. As adults we have a sense of who we are and

what we believe. As Christians and Catholics we know that Jesus is “The Way”. And yet we some-

times have difficulty finding him due to the jungle of strange sounds, tangled explanations, and

dangerous predators that surround us. Or the soft grasses block our view, slash the skin of our con-

fidence or hide unexpected predators which threaten the solidity of our faith. Or again, sometimes

we find ourselves outside of our comfort zone when our guide seems to have

disappeared around a bend in the path…

We will trust the Holy Spirit as guide while we reflect on our life’s journey and our destiny. It is

never too late to begin. But it is possible to wait too long… The move from time/space to eternity

can happen in a second.......

Our retreatants range from 11 to 100 years old. Clearly we are not all in the same space.

Our stories are enormously varied. But they are ours! Come, let’s journey together…

From Ashes to New Life

A Journey with Jesus

By: Meg Albertini & Dorothy Brandreth

Lent is a wonderful grace-filled opportunity within our Church to

grow in intimacy with Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Throughout

these 40 days, you will have the opportunity to journey with Jesus

as he enters the desert on Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2016

and then celebrate Easter Sunday with him at the empty

tomb. During this most sacred time, you will have the chance to

reflect weekly with a certified spiritual director about your life, its

events, and your relationship with God and others.

The focus of spiritual direction is the directee’s experience of

God and how communication (prayer) happens between God and

the directee. The program will begin on Ash Wednesday with an

opening prayer service and conclude Friday, March 18, 2016. If

you think you may be interested in participating in this program,

please contact the retreat office to register.
