Diploma for Professional Security Manager

IntroductionAccording to statistics released from SGSIA, more than 280,000 security personnel permits have been issued. A very significant percentage of these permit holders are working in the security and guarding sector. To meet the rapid growth of manpower demand as well as ever rising need on professional standards, the industry demands an increase of managerial level staff to lead this huge workforce for a sustainable quality of service.

Understanding the industry needs, the Hong Kong Security Association pioneers diploma courses to provide training opportunities for the industry.

Course Structure and OutlineThis course consists of 10 modules with a total of 120 hours. Students are required to attend all lectures and tutorials which are conducted over a 6 month period.

The course will include the following: The role of various statutory bodies, government departments and related organisations to regulate the security

industry and reinforce its professionalism An overview of different international standards as well as the laws and regulations that apply to security operation

and management The knowledge of contract administration and insurance The knowledge and techniques in diplomatically handling human resource and man-management issues How to conduct a comprehensive assessment of security risk The art and knowledge of working out effective security plans The knowledge crisis management, contingency plan and business continuation planning The techniques in investigation and formulating assessment and reports Basic understanding on the judiciary system and court procedure The techniques in controlling loss and fraud An overview of applied security systems and technology

Medium of the CourseThe course will be conducted in Cantonese and course materials will be supplemented by English or Chinese material.

Method of AssessmentThe course requires students to: Attend at least 80% of the course hours of each module Demonstrate classroom participation Submit coursework and project report Sit for the requisite course assessment

Award of CertificationStudents who pass each module will be issued with a certificate and students who pass at least eight modules of the course will be issued with a Diploma certification.

Admission RequirementTo be eligible for admission, a student should have:

At least 5 years’ experience in the security industry, 2 years of which at senior supervisory level or above in the security industry and

Holds a post-secondary level, or From the disciplinary forces, holding the rank of inspector or above, or Age 30 or above, recommended by a security company and supported with company reference letter(s)

Procedure for ApplicationTo apply for the Diploma Course for Professional Security Manager, applicants shall:

Complete the application form and submit it to ‘The Hong Kong Security Association’ as per the correspondence address printed on the form before the prescribed date

Attach photocopies of educational reports, professional qualifications, reference letter(s) if any A crossed cheque of HK$100 for the application fee payable to ‘The Hong Kong Security Association’. This fee is

non-refundable except if the course has been cancelled Selected interviews might be conducted upon discretion of The Hong Kong Security Association

After the completion of this course, graduates will acquire a comprehensiveknowledge to be competent professional security managers.
