Morrison Annual Report w 2

Dear Supporters and Friends,

I am proud to report that during the past year, Morrison Child and Family Services provided a

wide range of mental health services to nearly 6,000 children and their families in the Portland area. In our world, where we help to mend broken lives, that number represents a major accomplishment. I would like to highlight two exemplary programs that indicate Morrison’s stature in the mental health community:

Morrison is the only organization in the Pacifi c Northwest to receive recognition from SAMHSA, the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. SAMHSA wants to ensure that individuals and families suffering from substance abuse and mental health problems have the very best care that our professions can offer. SAMHSA wants to recognize providers who are offering high-quality, up-to-date, research-based, effective services. We won the Science to Service Award in the Mental Health Promotion category for our implementation of The Incredible Years, a prevention and intervention program for preschool children at risk for developing severe behavioral and aggressive problems.

Morrison, Peninsula Children’s Center and the Hearing & Speech Institute joined together to develop integrated and accessible services for low-income families in North/Northeast Portland. The goal is to promote healthy, safe, and stable families and prepare children for a successful educational experience by building a multi-disciplinary team of professionals. This team meets a range of children’s and families’ needs – mental and physical health, early childhood care and education, case management,

Health Foundation, Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund, United Way, and Children’s Investment Fund.

Morrison’s accomplishments are made possible by the compassionate community of donors and supporters whom we celebrate in this annual report. Every gift, every volunteer hour, every in-kind contribution is important and valued and contributes to our ability to touch the lives of children. Without you, our ability to improve the lives of Oregon’s most troubled children would be greatly diminished.

I spend much of my time in the community, meeting with our many donors and learning about why you support Morrison. I’ve heard touching stories this year about the impact Morrison has had in your lives and in the lives of people you know. That’s why I love doing this work – I get to be so close to so many miracles.

I sincerely hope you will continue to be a part of the Morrison community for many years to come. The children and families we serve need you.

Thank you.

About Morrison

Founded by Dr. Carl Morrison in 1947, Morrison Child and Family Services integrates multiple

programs specializing in mental health treatment for approximately 6,000 emotionally disturbed children ages birth to 18. These programs include early intervention, day treatment and proctor care for children 3-6 years of age, residential treatment for teen girls, mental health treatment for children and youth displaying inappropriate sexual behavior, and mental health and substance abuse treatment for teens. The outpatient programs represent the largest segment of the Morrison

continuum of services, providing family counseling, crisis intervention, education, individual treatment and case management services in clinic settings, in the community, and in local schools.

Morrison, the largest provider of mental health services for children in the state, is recognized for a highly effective family-centered outpatient program, which works to strengthen family and community ties, and our internal Program Evaluation department that maximizes the effectiveness of our programs.

Pacifi c Power Foundation has supported Morrison for many years. In 2007, the Foundation awarded Morrison $10,000 to fund a weekly Parent Support Group and parenting training activities under the auspices of Parents Anonymous. These services address the needs of parents who have successfully completed treatment for substance abuse and are now actively parenting their children. This program is essential to their ongoing recovery and ability to provide safe and nurturing environments for their children.

Quantec LLC –

In 2003, Morrison

supporter Dr. Roger

Moseley introduced

his friend Dr. M. Sami

Khawaja, president

of Quantec LLC,

to Morrison. Dr.

Khawaja suggested

that they pool their

the employees agreed

that they would

PCC Structurals, Inc – Chuck Zwick, Corporate Director of Leadership Programs, Precision Castparts Corp., fi rmly believes that corporations are responsible for supporting the not-for-profi t community. The relationship he has developed between PCC Structurals and Morrison is a vibrant example of that belief. Since 1996, the company has sponsored A Children’s Tale and Cooking for Kids. PCC Structurals has made generous contributions to establish a board-designated reserve fund. And in a unique effort managed by Mr. Zwick, PCC Structurals offers three scholarships to Morrison clients.
