LO Definition

• Learning objects (LOs) consist of digitally reusable succinct portions of self-contained information.

• These units of information can be combined into larger modules of information like building blocks to meet an individual’s needs in a variety of learning contexts.

• April 2008-Students surveyed about general education tutorials & recommended reuse of LOs– 256 Fundamentals of Oral Communication

students w/ 10% response rate– 133 English Composition students w/ 8%

response rate

• Trial survey during finals week• Results will be used to fine-tune the survey

for Fall 2008

• 80% of the Fundamentals of Oral Comm. Students rate the LO movies as valuable resources for other classes & assignments

• Ury & Mardis analyzed the 2008-2009 reference question database for queries from students in those classes which could have been answered using the content from the movies

Survey Results

• 70% of the English Composition Students recommended that search tip LOs be reused for other classes or assignments.

• 60% suggested that keyword and phrase searching LOs be used with other classes.
