A Lifestyle of WorshipBreak the Ice Worship Conference

Prepared by Pastor Rodel Catuy / Nov. 20, 2010

    INTRO:

To live a life of worship, we need to know first what worship really is

    What is Worship?

Worship comes from the Greek word proskuneo

NT: > proskuneo - means to kiss the hand toward, to do reverence orhomage by

kissing the hand; to bow ones self in adoration. It is used to signify humble adoration.

latreuo - rendering honor, paying homage

*both terms carry the idea ofgiving.

Derivation of proskuneo:Originally, it is Greek word for dog which implies

to kiss like a dog licking his masters hand.

Reflection: Dog staring to his master. (implies waiting)

Insights: We should cultivate the habit of staring at God,

So that when He stirs, we are aware of it.

This consuming, selfless desire to give God is the essence and heart of worship.

It begins with the giving first ofourselves, and then of ourattitudes, and then of ourpossessionsuntil worship is a way of life.

    I. A lifestyle of worship is a sacrificed life completely surrendered to God (Rom. 12:1).Ro 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of Gods mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and

pleasing to Godthis is yourspiritual act of worship.

There are two great passions in the universe:

    1. Gods passion to be glorified, and2. Mans passion to be satisfied.

However these two need not to conflict. They can come to simultaneous fulfillment in

worship, because God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him alone.

The doctrine of worship in the Bible has a four-part foundation:

a.) Worship must be done in love. No love no worship (1Cor. 13).b.) Worship is always accompanied by humility and reverent fear (Isaiah 66:2).

c.) Worship is commanded by God (Luke 10:27; 2 Chron. 29:25).

d.) Worship involves surrendering our entire life as an offering to God (Romans 12:1).

II. A lifestyle of worship means giving God our best (2 Samuel 24:24).2Sa 24:24 But the king replied to Araunah, No, I insist on paying you for it.I will not sacrifice to the LORD

my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid

fifty shekels of silver for them.

Colossians 3:23> This is the secret of the lifestyle of worship doing everything as if you

were doing it for Jesus .

The Message paraphrase says, take your everyday, ordinary life your sleeping, eating,

going-to-work, and walking-around life and place it before God as an offering. (Romans

12:1). Work becomes worship when you dedicate it to God and perform it with an awarenessof His presence.

But the context of this lifestyle is best seen in Scripture as walking in the newness of life

    (Romans 6:4b).

III. A lifestyle of worship means an ongoing transformation/repentance (2 Cor. 3:18).2Co 3:18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lords glory, are being transformed into his likeness with

ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

    A. Worship Is A Choice. (John 4:23,24)

    B. The Worshiper.

A worshiper is one who allows the Holy Spirit to transform his/her heart and life through

an act of worship, turning worship into more than just a religious activity.

The worshipers general view of life could be stated:

My life belongs to God and what I do in worship to God is a reflection of who I am ,but more importantly, whoseI am.

Pauls concern: 2 Corinthians 11:32Co 11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpents cunning, your minds may somehow be

led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

IV. A lifestyle of worship means living closer to God (Psalm 27:4)Ps 27:4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the

days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.

    A. Worship is Giving More Than A Song.Refer to PDL Book page 106: Matt Redmans Heart of Worship

    B. Worship Is Sitting At His Feet. (Luke 10:38-42)Lk 10:41 Martha, Martha, the Lord answered, you are worried and upset about many things,Lk 10:42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.

A.W. Tozer:Worship acceptable to God is the missing crown jewel in evangelical Christianity.2
