The importance of your Stage nameas a DJ!!!

What has the music industry done to ouryouth, That’s the question I asked myselftoday as I was busy doing my daily socialmedia chores , yeah it’s not a secret I ama self confessed addict. So I am busybrowsing my facebook news feed , Iliterally saw what to me as an individualwho has been involved a lot in the musicindustry call a night mare . I came acrossprofiles with names like DJ Hot Stove, DJCondom, DJ Mageza, just to mention a fewand then there were those who simplecopy cat other people‘s names. I mean likereally stealing a name, I can understandcalling yourself Themba, Bheki andtshepo, but going as far as calling yourselfWhite Coffee, Mzala Wa Afrika is just toomuch. I might sound like a hater / brokenrecord or simply just making a whiningnoise but the point I am trying to point outis that every single person has beenfortunate enough to be given a brain tothink , so a little creativity wouldn’t hurtfrom all the wanna be DJ’s and Artists . Imean to be successful in the musicindustry, constant creativity must be

applied, and you don’t just wake up one dayand call yourself a DJ. If you’re seriousabout your this thing, you will make aneffort into your stage name and actuallygoing out to acquire the skills, although notmany of today’s DJs acquire the skill butthat’s a topic for a different day.Today I just want to share my 2 cent‘sworth of advice to every passionate soul outthere who wishes to enter the musicindustry and actually succeed. Ever heardthe saying that if you throw a rock in acrowd of people, chances are that rock willhit a DJ. The statement can be contestedbut to some level it’s true but the point toit is that a lot competition exists and theonly way to beat it is to think like there isno box at all. A name is as important as thetalent you possess, you might be as talentedas black coffee but if you still call yourselfDJ Hot Stove, you’re likely not to be takenseriously. Imagine you got a gig in a club, and I got to tell my female friends, the typethat dress the part for a night out “Thatclassy hot look”, then I go like yoh guys didyou hear that there’s DJ Hot plate in theLoop Night Club tonight. On a serious note, total turn off. When choosing a name, choose something

@ Nollan_Teey‘s 2 cents worth of Music Industry advice

that will appeal to your target audience, something catchy that will stay in people‘slips when they first hear about you. Let’stake a look at a name that I think resembleswhat I am talking about: Brazo wa Afrika,The name is unique, catchy and appeals toa broad audience. What do you think madebrazo this popular so quick, well my take istalent combined with a good brand name.and yeah as an artist you must look atyourself as a brand, again another topic onits own. Most Consumer buy products based onpopularity and trust of the brand, so forexample a chocolate brand called xatafichocolate, obviously won’t be bought by theaverage consumer as you can clearly tellthat it sounds fake, same concept appliesfor DJs and artists.

I think I have bubbled enough by now andshould leave you with this to think about, give it some thought and see if I’m makingsense or just talking a lot of male cattlefaeces. I Hope my 2 cents worth of advicewill make you wiser and wiser. Until nexttime stay cool.
