While GIFCT does not identify with or endorse any particular agenda, religion, or political party, wewould like to make this Equity Statement.

Equity Statement

We recognize that this statement has taken some time to come, but we want to let all of you know, particularly our Black brothers and sisters, that we stand with you.

As if this recent pandemic has not already rocked our community economically and emotionally, wehave also been made to bear witness to the modern-day lynching of Ahmaud Arbery by vigilanteracists for doing nothing more than taking an evening run; we have been made to be witness to themurder of Breonna Taylor as she was in her own home resting peacefully; we have been made to bewitness to the death of George Floyd who was failed by a system that promises its citizens a fair trialand the world watched as his pleas for the air in his lungs was denied by the unprofessional firstresponders who had already had him in cuffs. These, just being the most recent in what have beenyears of injustices and indignities inflicted upon the Black community in The United States ofAmerica, have shaken us to our very core.

As an organization, we are committed to promoting personal freedom and respect of the undeniableintersections that exist between abilities, politics, race, and socioeconomic status in this country westand in solidarity with the Black community during these horrific times. We stand in solidarity with theBlack Lives Matter movement. Our communities are in pain and we acknowledge the fear, anger, disconnection, and sadness felt by so many.

As practitioners of Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, we are aware that the choices of Blackpeople in The United States of America have been stifled by racism. We know that racism is a choiceand too many people choose to practice this most disconnecting of habits. We know that the onlyperson’s actions we control are our own but systemic racism makes it almost impossible for Blackpeople to have the freedom and flexibility necessary for optimum inclusion. We know that we mustimprove our actions as CT/RT practitioners to include Black people and to foster equity and justice forall people. We must and will work to unravel the systemic racism and its crippling hold on thepersonal freedom of all Black people. We know that charity begins at home and that while teachingthe world Choice Theory we will double down on our efforts to teach Choice Theory here in TheUnited States of America. While our focus is on what is happening in The United States of America,we realize the issue of race is a global issue.

Dear GIFCT-US Faculty members,

The 2020 Faculty Retreat is planned for July 17-19, 2020. This retreat will be avirtual experience using the Zoom platform. The board is excited to offer thisopportunity for faculty to continue their learning process, and connect withother faculty members.

We will have many opportunities to grow in our practice of CT/RT, LeadManagement, and Quality School work. Faculty from multiple professions willbenefit from the variety of sessions. The virtual setting will allow participants tostay engaged for the entire retreat or only attend the sessions that appeal tothem.

Beyond the learning opportunities, we will be offering multiple socialexperiences. These experiences will have themes and be interactive. Join us,put your party face on, and enjoy time with old friends along with new ones.

Going virtual this year allows us to offer registration on a donation basis. Wehave set donation levels of $25, $50, $75, and $100 and are asking for adonation that suits you. Your donation will provide resources allowing GIFCT-US to continue providing more opportunities such as this.

With kind regards,

John Mieras, Vice President of GIFCT-USShruti Tekwani, Interim Executive Director of GIFCT-US

Living Life with Choice Theory

There are 10 scenarios included in this course, each one depicting a differenttroubling situation. The slides then take you through the thought process ofidentifying your thoughts, feelings and actions. You are then asked to evaluatewhether the actions are helping the character to get what they really want.Several concepts of Choice Theory are then introduced, which result in givingthe character various options to move forward.
