SPACE AND STYLE

04–05

Set well back from the road, Orchard House is approached via discreet electric gates which open onto a sweeping driveway framed by mature trees and shrubs. Park in front of the entrance where there’s room for several cars, or open the electric doors to park in one of two garages.

Take off your coat in the inviting oak-framed entrance porch and step into the main hallway. You’ll naturally gravitate towards the spacious kitchen, completely bespoke and hand-made by Barry Open, which opens out into a family room and informal dining area. This is the heart of this lovely home and the place where family and friends will want to congregate. Thoughtfully designed to accommodate the demands of family life, you’ll find plenty of cupboard space including two full-height pantry cupboards which you can stock full of home-made produce from the garden, a walk-in store room and two professional standard Libherr fridge-freezers.

The smooth granite worktops provide ample space for food preparation, and with no fewer than four Miele ovens, even the most discerning home-cook will be delighted.

Through a graceful archway, the kitchen opens out into the family room and informal dining area. Children can be watching TV or doing their homework at the table whilst you whip up supper. Afterwards, you can relax together on the huge squishy sofa. In warmer months, double doors open out onto the sunny terrace allowing you to enjoy indoor-outdoor living.

You’ll notice an almost effortless flow to the downstairs rooms at Orchard House. The spaces have been cleverly designed to create open plan living when desired, but can be closed off to provide quiet areas for reading, work or relaxation.

If you enjoy entertaining then you’ll love the splendid formal dining room. This large room is flooded with natural light thanks to the high ceilings, gable-style French doors and led-light windows which lend an air of understated elegance. Your guests could enjoy a drink in the stylish drawing room before walking through to the dining room and sitting down to supper around the large table that can comfortably seat 14 guests. Afterwards, get together around the sunken firepit just outside to while away the rest of the evening with brandy and toasted marshmallows.

Situated between the dining room and the drawing room, the cosy sitting room offers a quiet and inviting space in which to relax. It’s the perfect place to enjoy morning coffee with a friend or just to relax with the papers at the weekend. You could even settle down here with a good book chosen from your well stocked adjoining library with its solid-oak built in bookcases.

The impressive drawing room features a beautiful sweeping bay window with an inviting window seat at the southerly end. Solid oak flooring, elegant lines and graceful proportions lend a distinctly refined feel to this room whilst the marble fireplace creates a natural focal point for the eye. This is a fabulous room for entertaining whatever the season, but also perfect for quiet relaxing evenings where you can curl up in front of a crackling log fire.

A large study with solid oak flooring to the front of the house looks over the driveway and makes working from home a breeze. Superfast internet speeds allow you to fully enjoy the tranquillity and privacy of Orchard House whilst still feeling connected.

Take the staircase to the first floor where you’ll discover the master bedroom suite, a spacious guest suite, three further double bedrooms and a luxurious family bathroom.

The master suite is an expansive and light-filled sanctuary that is a joyful retreat at the end of a long day. With large windows on three sides, this lovely room basks in natural light all through the day and offers far reaching views over the gardens. Its westerly aspect makes this room particularly lovely the end of the day when bathed in the soft light of the evening sunset. There’s a chic en-suite shower room and a large dressing area with built in wardrobes.

The guest bedroom suite is situated on the eastern side of the house, allowing visitors privacy and space. With its own en-suite shower-room and dressing area, this might also make a perfect room for an older relative or a teenager after some more space and independence.

GORGEOUS GARDENS

Immaculate gardens surround Orchard House. Thoughtful planting and expert care have created gardens that will surprise and delight you. The simply sublime grounds are beautiful at any time of year, but really come into their own during spring and early summer.

Completely secluded and private, there are two acres of private oasis to explore. The gardens are a superb blend of the formal and the more whimsical, with large lawns where children can play, endless nooks and crannies for hide and seek, sheltered terraces to entertain and shady spots to enjoy some peaceful solitude. Block pathways add to the English rose-garden feel, and our favourite spot is the beautiful avenue of fruit trees that draws you towards a featured garden ornament and folly beyond – a fairy tale romantic setting. Gardening enthusiasts will appreciate the two greenhouses and garden storage area discreetly tucked away to one side.

To the rear of the property, a sheltered terrace offers a fantastic spot for barbeques and al-fresco dining, whilst cleverly designed paths lead you off to the pool, cinema, cottage and pub.
