A Manual for Vedic Research

To facilitate smooth pursuance of the research activity it is resolved by the Advisory Committee to invite detailed relevant project/s from individual researchers and institutions with duly filled in necessary bio-data and the institutional profile. As the Athirathram is a Vedic performance, the research related to it is considered an effort to rediscover the Vedic Sciences and their applications for the welfare and peace of humanity. It is necessary to dedicate the project to a Vedic Rishi whose name may be chosen according to the area identified for research in keeping with the Vedic resources. There is the dire need for in depth study of the specific Veda mantras, the practical manuals of the Yaga and the disciplines to be observed by the researchers. The project and its objectives should be provided in Sanskrit and in English for which special care must be taken to be precise. This will ensure authenticity of the pursuit. It is needless to mention that the documentation ought to be in the Vedic language. It must be remembered that extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidences. It is to be noted that this Vedic performance belongs to the public domain and therefore no private copy rights and patent claims will be entertained by the Committee. Just as the welfare of humanity and world peace are values upheld by the Vedas, this Committee upholds these values in keeping with the Vedic injunctions. We request the researchers to study the Brochure and other materials provided on the Athirathram website which provide an overview of this MahAyAga. For further clarifications kindly contact us through the website link. www.athirathram2012.com

The right to knowledge carries along with it the obvious duty to learn how to search for knowledge and the effective ways of keeping it non-corrupt, perpetuating it and preserving it for the next generation. The discipline of Vedic chanting is a living tradition of oral practice intergenerationally preserved and perpetuated in India, across the country, through Guru-Shishya Parampara till today. The functioning Veda Pathashalas are but poor replica of Vedic Rishikulam. For ages, lighting of the lamp, Lighting of the Lamp, blowing of the conches and the Veda Ghosha these mark the commencement of any public function and family programme in India. We have only the keyboard level scripture of the Vedas today. It is necessary to rediscover and reinvent the Indian systems of science and technology that was drawn, encoded in and zipped as the Vedas and applied them for the welfare and well being, prosperity and peace of humanity without disturbing the harmony of Mother Nature. It is also necessary to prevent modern invasions to research the Vedas, copyrighting them and patenting their contents under any pretext including luring and bribing the contemporary Vedic descendents in the name of cultural documentation. The Vedas are not to serve the tastes of Indologists, but lived through performances which include Yajnas and Yagas. The Vedic Fire is an integral part of the daily life of the Indians. The sixteen Vedic Samskaras are performed to prepare the living human container to receive the Vedic Fire and its knowledge. The Vedic Rishis have prescribed the ways and methods of repeated search to draw guidance from the Vedas in all matters and affairs at all dimensions of human life, in harmony with Mother Nature. Hence we do not need such efforts as reported in the news paper By recording these highly arcane rituals in electronic audio/video form Staal saved for posterity the ancient ritual form and recitation that may have been ultimately lost forever. Here comes the significance of Vedic research in the modern context. Every Vedic performance is purpose driven and experience based. Hence Vedic research demands participation in the prescribed Vedic manner strictly following the Vedic methodology. At the outset a researcher of Vedic Knowledge ought to know what the Vedas are NOT.

The Insider Approach. The insider approach is, to be precise, the Vedic approach. It is the Rishis applied methodology of repeated search through Agni Upasana. Before delineating this Vedic approach to the Vedas it is necessary to enlist the insiders who are very active in the contemporary context. These insiders have all the positive attitudinal aspects and some of them are familiar with the Vedic Guru Shishya model of Kavyakantha Vasishta Ganapati Muni and Sri [Brahmashri] Daivarata Sharma whose Chandodarshanam episode is an example of repeated search for Vedic mantras hitherto unknown. Veda Brahma Sri[Brahmarshi]K.S Nithyananda [Yaga Nirdeshaka and at Dakshinagni, Vajapeya Somayaga, Karnataka] Rishi Yaji Dr. Niranjan Bhat, and Rishi Subrahmanya2

Dr. Ramanuja Devanathan[Vice Chancellor, .....Sanskrit University,] is a Vedic scholar of uncompromising traditional discipline. Sri Krishna Kumar M.B [New Delhi],Sri. S. R. Krishnamurthy [Bangalore], Sri Padmanabha Sarma[..] also belong to the above category of Veda jijnasus. Dr. Alex Hankey [UK/Bangalore], a disciple of Maharshi Mahesh Yogi is a unique Vedic researcher in the field for more than 25 years. Many of these researchers have inherited the Vedas traditionally, practice regularly the Vedic Chanting, perform rituals invoking Vedic Agni and perpetuate the Vedas. A musicologist need not be a performing musician but should necessarily be a thoroughly erudite scholar of the Science of Music and also should have a trained ear for music with refined cultural tastes. Unlike this, in the case of Vedic research, a researcher ought to have the direct experience of Vedic chanting and should be totally free from any kind of flaws in character such as drug addictions, smoking, alcoholism and womanizing/sexual inhibitions. The Vedic Rishis and Sir J.C Bose It is noteworthy here that Sir J.C Bose is the first known Indian modern scientist who referred to the Vedic Rishis as the resources of the scientific knowledge he has about life in the plants. He is the pioneer of Psycho-Botany, the new developing branch which studies the human mind and plant interactions/responses. It is Maharshi Mahesh Yogi who introduced and popularized the concept of Vedic Sciences among the modern scientists. He paved the way for modern research in Vedic Sciences across the globe.3

Maharshi Mahesh Yogi, Tony Nader and Vedic Sciences.Professor Tony Nader M.D., Ph.D, [Raaja Raam,] working under Maharishis guidance, has found that the forty branches of Veda and the Vedic Literature, which present the mechanics of the creation and evolution of Natural Law, are the fundamental basis and essential ingredient of the human physiology, and that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the structures and functions of the different branches of Vedic Literature and the structures and functions of the human physiology. To understand this discovery, we must first look at the nature and origin of the Vedic Literature.

Reading the Vedic Literature for Unfolding Perfection in Life [Effects of Veda PaarAyaNam, Vedic Chanting.]The correspondence between the Vedic Sounds and the human physiology has great potential for restoring physiological balance. Reading the sounds of the Vedic Literature in their proper sequenceeven phonetically, without any sense of meaningcreates resonance with the same anatomic structures to which the sounds correspond, enlivening a specific sequence of neuronal, and physiological activity. By re-establishing the proper sequence of the unfoldment of Natural Law in the physiology, any imperfections stress, blocks, or any structural or functional abnormalitiescan be eliminated. The result is that the physiology functions increasingly in accord with its original and perfect design. The total natural law is within us, and is available to us in the sounds of the Vedic literature, which are vibrations of the Self. These sounds become the physiologyour brain, our heartour whole physiology is a replica of Veda and Vedic literature. Maharishi points out that reading the Vedic Literature in sequential order has the effect of regulating and balancing the functioning of the brain physiology. During reading, the functioning of individual fibres of the brain comes into coherence with the holistic value of brain functioning, and as a result the mind begins to function according to Natural Law in every expression. When the mind flows in an evolutionary direction, all thought, speech, and action also flow in an evolutionary direction, in the direction of the unfoldment of higher states of consciousness. Students in a doctoral track at Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield, Iowa, USA, read the Vedic Literature for several hours a day and document their growing enlightenment. These students have each recorded hundreds of experiences of growing higher states of consciousness. I Know Veda, I Am Veda Maharishi emphasizes that every individual is capable of experiencing Veda in their simplest state of awareness, and that complete knowledge and understanding of Veda does not come through intellectual analysis, but from identifying ones awareness with Vedathe selfinteracting dynamics of pure, self-referral consciousnessand exploring it on its own level. Since Veda is a phenomenon of pure subjectivity, transcendental to the thinking processes, the intellect is incapable of comprehending it on its own level. As Maharishi explains:

4

You know the Veda by being Veda. You cognize Veda by being Veda. Cognition of the Veda is on its own level, and that is that level in which we get into the details of wakefulness. Veda is the detailed structure of pure wakefulness, and there the intellect does not go. Maharishi locates this understanding in two expressions, which underscore the relationship between identifying ones awareness with Veda and knowing Veda:

Maharishis ideal of Vedic Study provides an important addition to the field of education, for it promises to develop Total Knowledge in the awareness of every student through exploring the Veda and Vedic Literature on its own level, and enlivening the fundamental impulses of Natural Law in the students awareness. Reading the Vedic Literature in conjunction with the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique provides the basis of Vedic Education, for it enlivens the total potential of Natures functioning in the awareness of every student. Maharishi describes this as a supreme achievement of education, which can create a perfect individual and a perfect educational system. Every Individual Is Cosmic This historic discovery provides clear and scientific proof that every man is Cosmic, every individual is the blueprint of the total potential of Natures organizing power. It is therefore the responsibility of every government to provide the opportunity for its citizens to unfold the total potential of their lives, to unfold their own Cosmic Potential. This historical discovery is that the human physiology, including the DNA at its core, has the same structure and function as the holistic, self-sufficient, self-referral reality expressed in the forty branches of Veda and the Vedic Literature. He explains that each of the forty branches of Veda and the Vedic Literature can be located in both structure and function in the human physiology. The syllables, verses, stanzas, and Mandalas of Rk Veda have been mapped in the entire structure of the nervous system and in all the peripheral nerves controlling the activities of the tissues, organs, and organ systems. The basic theme of organization of Rk Veda has also been located within the DNA of every cell of the body. This discovery of Veda in the physiology makes the study and knowledge of physiology a study and understanding of Veda.

5

For example, Maharishi describes Vyakaranam as the branch of the Vedic Literature that embodies the expanding quality of self-referral consciousness. The tendency of Veda to sequentially elaborate itselfto unfold from its first syllable to the forty branches of the Vedic Literatureis expressed by Vyakaran. Raja Raam locates the similarity between this expansive tendency and the function of the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus releases factors that activate the pituitary gland, neurohypophysis, and the autonomic nervous system. These releasing factors represent the expansion necessary for the evolution of the endocrine and autonomic response, which leads to biochemical and physiological responses that bring the system to a new state of balance. Structurally the Ashtadhyayi, the principle text of Vyakaranam, is comprised of 8 Adhyayas (or chapters) of 4 Padas (a metrical unit) each, totaling 32 Padas. Similarly, the hypothalamus is comprised of 8 regionsanterior, posterior, middle, and lateral, right and leftwith 4 nuclei each, making 32 nuclei, corresponding to the 32 Padas of the Ashtadhyayi. Raja Raam noted a correspondence between each Pada of the Ashtadhyayi and specific anatomical functions.

Vyakaranam and the Hypothalamus

This diagram illustrates a cross section of the cerebral cortex and a highlight of the anterior hypothalamus areas, corresponding to the first and second chapters of Vyakaranam. The 4 nucleii in each area correspond to the 4 divisions of each chapter. The other three chapters have been similarly correlated with different aspects of the hypothalamus.

What are the Vedas?A few sample arguments gathered from the F-I-S-H Google Group: If Vedas or agamas or aranyakas or upanishads or other vedangas were created after Panini Maha Rishi had laid his principles and formats, it would have been quite right to say that others can be wrong. It is a reflection. With what thought you look at them, it will be found to be true and reflected in the same way. But before looking at the present day scriptures in the form it is available to us, one has to have a basic understanding on what these are. [Do the Vedas themselves provide this basic understanding?] 1. Vedas are not Sanskrit verses to have a grammar and composition. 2. It is not a language to have a sastra and vyakarana, no matter if someone finds in it. 3. It has a schematic expression and is intrinsically codified as per the formulations of the Brahmarishis, who are the proponents of the schemes.[Who are the Brahmarshis? Do they author the schemes or discover them?] 4. Maxmuller or Whitney or anyone can see it the way they want. 5. Vedas are not for patenting, but is subject to the followed norms in using them. 6. Vedas are not for west or east or north or south, it does not exist in dimensional limitations of space-time or space-like time. 7. It does not show or tell directly what it is. [?] 8. It needs Jnaanam and uparijnaanam and Darshanam of Aksharam. [Who prescribes this?] 9. One has to learn from the progenitor and creator of it. Still it is subject to the kalpa. In every kalpa, it is factual and true and cannot be debated. [What is meant by Progenitor and creator? Why to learn?] 10. Vedas were born in a kalpa, [are they not Anadi?]that had a different configuration of the Universe and the solar system had a different positional conformation. What Panini Maharishi understood should not be treated ultimate or what others saw should not be decried.[Criteria?] Nishedam also is in the bhava. [?] 11. If anyone has mastered Brahmatatvam, I would like to hear more. [?] Krishna Kumar M.B ******** The answer to the following questions rests in understanding the traditional statement, perspective and classification of Vyakrana of SAMSKRUTHAM - covering ' Bhashaa and Chandas' - which Panini -Patanjali, which is a Sampradaya is dealing with ' Vedaga Samskrutham' and not social historical language .

7

The study of historical social languages of India needs a different approach, right from the understanding of what is Prakrutham-Apabhramsha -Mleccha -jati bhashaa et al distinctly from 'Samskrutham' paradigm. The real need now is to find the scholars who can distinguish Sanskrit from Samskrutham; and restore VEDANGA Samskrutham Studies model of PaniniPatanajali. In the limits of my understanding, 1. a) Traditional position holds : Samskrutham is to be classified and studied as a 'VEDANGA'. b) Traditional posiiton holds :Samskrutham is 'DEVA-BHASHAA'. c) The Amarakosha listed other words Brahmee, Bharatee, Vak, Sarasvatee et al. gives other perspectives of exploring Samskrutham in specific contexts. The purpose of studying Vyakarana is 'Vak-Darshana' ( = Visioning Speech and Speech Processes = Darshana of Vak and Vak-Prakriya) . Vak-Prakriya is explained in the famous shiksha sutra kaarikaa : ' Atmaa buddhyaa samaayktah,...' . In this perspective, the process of learning -practicing Samskrutham is Vangmayam tapah /Vag-Yoga. This is what uniquely distingusihes SAMSKRUTHAM from all other Social Languages of historic periods, which focus on managing localized communication (= Samvaada, Sambhaashana, Bhashaa - Samparka, Bhaavaabhivyakti). The aim of ' generating Samskrutha Bhashaa Pada = structuring a True designate word through a series of refinements ( = prakriyaa) to bring out a unique sound-sequencestructure = Siddham Pratya-yuktam, Prakriyaa shuddham Samskrutham Padam' - which needs to meet the sutra standard 'Sup-Ting-Antham Padam. In this way, Samskrutha -Pada is ' Padartha -Abhidhana -Shabda' .Every prataya structures a ' localised -finitized communication from the ' Prakruti' pada by a prakriyaa. This is the model of finite expressions of infinite as seen in the world. The reverse philosophical deliberations are seen in Sphota vaada. While Sphota Vaada deliberates on how to realize ' Shabda -Brahma ' ( wihtout any limitation of the explanation to any one specific language of the world / human or animal language et al) from the sound-streams reaching the ear ( indriya) and procesed further at the layer of Buddhi; the reverse model of How Shabda-Smriti gets articlated in to a True representation of Padartha This is in tune with the philosophcal analysis linked to vedic statement ' Naama -RoopeVyakaravaaNi'. This key position of tradition is given a good go bye by many in two streams following two critical errors ( Exceptions are always there, who do teach these essentials to students). : (a) By Western schoalrs who study Samskrutham as Sanskrit - a historical language of a specific community; thus stripping SAMSKRUTHAM of its links with the elevated states of consciousness related to Veda-Darshana ; the MANTRA dimension. This error is continuouly endorsed by many oriental scholars who live on this understanding implicitly and repeat parrot like the statement ' During the Vedic Times /Vedic Period ...' ?! What is Vedic history and period? - Which Acharya sampradaya has endorsed the history and8

social scale of Veda by Roman calendar scale of BCE?? And tolerating this positon for three hundred years now without raising strong voice?? (b ) By traditional schools which are NOT teaching the VEDANGA (Chandas) model of Samskrutham along with Sahitya Bhashaa / Shaastra model ; Why prefer teaching of SAMSKRUTHAM in the KAVYA -Sahitya - Shastra -Vedanta lanes of understanding and ignore / reject the ' Chandas model' ? The error is in the hypothesis that Chandas (= Shruti) ' can be lingusitically totally understood using bhashaa-vyakarana. Panini-Patanjali traiditon provide the clues clearly how to 'See Pada' (Vak-Darshana) - from ' Speak using Pada-samooha / as Vakya' ( Vaachaarambhana , Satya-Vaak, Priya -hitam'). The fault is in starting Vyakarana studies without the foundational base of SHIKSHAA Shastra ; and integrating it in to the Nirukta ( = Meaning of Words, as Kosha) - Chandas ( Flow of Sounds as Sukta /Kavya / Gati). Jyotisha and Kalpa would be needed to ugade Bhashaa to Chandas level. The traditional schools need to restore back this 'Prak-Kruta' model of Vedanga studies to the SAMSKRUTHA model of Vedanga Studies; When Panini-Vyakarana will emerge as 'Vedanga Vyakarna'. Without restoring this core vision of traiditon, the objections raised by western schools on Indian Languges studies cannot be properly addressed. What is Vedanga Model of teaching Samskrutham? Why is it to be restored ? : Vedanga -Vyakarna PAddhati is the method of impartng instruction of Samskrutham which answers the criterion laid down by Patanjali in Mahabhashya : Paspashahnika in the lines : Kimartham Adhyeyam Vyakaranam ? Rakshohaagamalaghvasandeharthah prayojanam. This is amplified in Bhashya by the citations of vedic references - uta tvah pashyan ( = Vyakarana for Vak-Darshana), yastu prayungte ( = Speaking Samskrutham as Vak-Yoga / Samskrutha Shabda as Mantra) . Chatvari shrungah ( = Template of how to construct and analyze the Vibhakti-Pratyaya grid of Samskrutha Vyakarana Prakriyaa). Final purification of the word ( titavunaa punanthah, yatra dheera, mansaa vacham akrata). The goal of Samskrutham speaking is True Articulation of Thought to Truthfully Totally represent the Designated. ( Pada for a Padartha-Darshana). The outcome of this is 'Bhadraishaam Lakshmeeh nihitaa adhi Vaachi'. And if todays Sanskrit movement is limited to 'Mama Naama /Tava naama', we have a long journey to cover in restoring -recovering Samskrutham from 'Sanskrit'! Regards BVK Sastry ********** The easiest solution is to learn Veda-s first and then Vedanga-s next and among six Vedangas at least VyakaraNa. All the rest is next. True spirit of the Age of Veda-s restored. All quoting Patanjali insisting the need, one line was forgotten:9

2. This was the position 2000 years ago and what to say of it today, when everyone is busy with seeking living of his own? Certainly one more Patanjali should come to convince the students and attempt again afresh for this time. In short, the situation had not during these 2000 years and how many years to come we will have to change it without new approach?

Thanks for the reply to those have replied. Dr. Harinarayana Bhat. B.R ******* Responding on specific points: 1. Hemanth wrote: < There is a famous saying in IT sector that "Don't reinvent the wheel". Just build parts upon the wheel to come up with new designs. So, what's the use of saying learn grammar in depth? Let's think of another Panani later. Why cant traditional teachers think creatively and innovate something? Every person has a strength to become Brahma. Its all depends on the effort they put. When child doesn't eat a particular food, the mother will modify it to the shape and taste which the child likes. Why cant scholars cope up with present scenario, motivate non main stream students to something like contribution in terms of writing algorithms to software world, mathematics, to scientific research, findings for social harmony, addressing social problems, etc., such that they will also be in better position in the career. > < Certainly one more Patanjali should come to convince the students and attempt again afresh for this time.> < In short, the situation had not during these 2000 years and how many years to come we will have to change it without new approach? > BVK Sastry Responds to Hemanth : It is true that one should not go to reinvent the wheel as a researcher. ; But as an APPLICATION TECHNOLOGIST, One must know the Size and Gears of the Wheel to be used in any given application. Samskrutham is a different Size Speed wheel which is much larger in potential than the current Roman Character / English like Human Language centric IT / BT developments, in to which Samskrutham is being forced to fit in as SANSKRIT. The interests in the IT/BT industry pursuit of Sanskrit as 'One of the Indian Langauges with Devanagari Script, the official Language of India that was ' Bharatam Varshah / Mahabharatam / Rahstram ' are clearly Commercial Colonial Purusits in this area. The IT / BT love for Samskrutham /Sanskrit is NOTHING to do with the real listed in traditional schools for Samskruta Vyakrana Adhyanana as VEDANGA. In the present time, the teaching of SAMSKRUTHAM for VEDANGA and VIJNANA VINIYOGA aspects is so narrowly restricted to the two lanes : Shastra -Vaada paddhati in10

Vedanta lane; Applied Veda-Vidhi (Prayogas) as Mantra, Yaaga, Homa, Havana. This is wrapped in the technical word 'Paurohitya ', badly interpreted as 'Hindu Priest 'in the Social parlance. Once this error of seeing ' Purohita as Priest: ' - the real work of Acharya - RitvikVedavit falls short of its Vedic Standards per Rigveda (1-1-1), the caution of Acharya Shankara ( resonating with the earlier statement by Sage Vyasa about Kaliyuga society as 'atta shoolah janapadah,....; and about the Brahmanaachaara). The lamenting on the situation with reference to the yard-sticj by ' Scale of Upanishad ' is just stopping at the first chapter of Gita, aptly titled ' Vishaada Yoga'. The progress needs to be towards ' tasmat yudhyasva Bharata ... Karishye Vachanam Tava'. If we have to walk ( and run ) the eyes need to see forward where the feet has to move. Patanjali has clearly articulated How Samskrutham is to be used for the VIJNANA stream right in PASPASHA; the lead question starting with the line: Atha Shabdaanushaasanam Atha Gauh ityatra kah shabdah ? ... yenoccharitena.. sampratyayo bhavati'. If we understand this line clearly, the directions for exploring Samskrutham for Computers - as Voice Primary Solution providing - Human Language Model - becomes very clear. It is for us, the lesser mortals to who consider specialists of MAchines and Programming to understand how to treack this lane, with the guidance of Vyakaranaacharya in the VIJNANA lane. The current name in IT for this is Language Techology, Speech Solutions, Voice Process, MultilingualMultimodal Intelligent Interactive Interface et al. Tradiitonal Samskrutham schoalrs dont use these terminologies; and Modern It / BT Application developers don't integrate the wisdom of tradition to build Humanized Machines unless it comes as a Out of India initiative with a 'Dollar Tag ' ?! Please contact me off line to know more about my initiatives in this regard : - Shruti-Kranti : Humanizing Programming Languages and Yoga-Trayee Movement. These are still initiatives in off line mode with limited team members. Currently I am at Bangalore and am available for another four weeks, if you desire to interact with me.

*********************************************** Dr. Bhat wrote : < How can it be expected of -s of today if they want dollars or paunds? It should be "priya" to Acharya> < At least, the change is they were confident of saying vedAn no vaidikAh, but what is the percentage of Sanskrit Learners to be able to say this much today? > .< How this has been realized can be seen from your above para. > BVK Sastry Responds to Dr. Bhat : The technicality of < Dhanam > is not limited to Indian Rupees ! Sree Sukta : Dhanam Agnih, Dhanam Vayuh, .... Certainly one does not expect Acharya to live by Fire and air ?! The ideation of is a personal factor. Some Acharyas like specific forms of Dhanam as their model. The way I see the anvaya of is with the < Antevasin> which is in the beginning. Oh Student, Pool11

the 'best form of money-wealth that You, as disciple consider as the 'most appropriate and pleasing'- to your master and submit it ; as your commitment of prioritizing ' Vidya over 'Dhanam' . I am basing my understanding on the text reading < :" > - a command to the student. If we need to refocus the question from 'Learners' to ' willing Teachers to take a second look at the tradition' and do the right kind of ' Anushaasana', your observation on 'Percentage 'still holds. There are very few schoalrs who can integrate Jnana and Vijnana of Samskrutham and make it relevant to current needs as 'Anushaasana Todays contextual need in Samskrutham /Sanskrit studies is NOT 'Shabda-Brahma /Moksha/ Sahitya - Rasa / Samskruthi' et al. The contextual need clearly expressed in Hemanth's post is < Career = Vrutti , Arthaarjanam > before Vruttarjanam = Cultural dimensions and Spirituality > . In Vamana's terms ( redefined) : Don't teach silk weaving to one who needs how to make a rag-clothe stitching ( shana-sutra-vaaya) for a livelihood. And on the same line : If one is a Silk weaver, do not try to work as 'Rag-cloth stitcher' and hope to earn money. The Samskrutha Vyakaranacharyas are in much greater level and respectable position than what this comparison points to. The Vyakaranacharyas (= Shiva-Sutra Acharyas) are guides for harmoniously blending the 'jeeva- deva' through 'mantra'. They are the real 'Puro-Hita' in the Vedic Tradition. Regards BVK Sastry ********** Response from Sri Hemanth Kumar G. In our discussion there are 4 Views: 1. Social / Public : How much the present IT/BT or current Language Science (Bhaasha Vijnana) useful to common man, where he has no concern towards his Matru Bhasha & Rastra Bhasha? Britan is ruling India till now, by a weapon called ENGLISH. How to impart RastraBhimaana & BhashaBhimaana? Commonly people ask, why should I learn this particular regional language when I know English? High School & Pre-University Students take Sanskrit just for Scoring purpose where roughly more than 80% answers are to be written in regional language. A son/daughter from traditional family knowing the values of Sanskrit and Vedas don't follow Vedic Rituals, just get a B.E. or MBBS and notify themselves in White Collared jobs? Basic need of any country is Agriculture. Vedas and its practices are12

based on Agriculture. Agriculturists are deviating from their lands to Cities, production is decreasing and all people are running only for 'Artha Sanchayana' in such a speed that forgetting what is our Dharma? 2. IT Centric : IT researcher or Application Programmer are trained such that as they get proper specifications, they start coding and complete the project only if academic or commercial or some benefit is there. Here Money Education Job. But Old Indian Education System says that "Education is not for sale, not just for job. Its by the GURU, for the society & of the life". I appreciate Dr. BVK's research work in collaborating IT with tradition. It works fine for your level, at present how it would contribute to the students who learning Sanskrit and Veda-Vedanga related courses? How it is reflected in the syllabus? Student's mentality is towards gaining marks by reading what's there in syllabus and that too what may be asked in exam, but not for the knowledge. As the Education system & job providers focuses on the same. 3. Traditional Practitioners : In present scenario so called Purohits has to lead their life by their rituals. To become a real Purohit, one to possess adequate qualifications (Listed in my blog: http://veda-vijnana.blogspot.com). He/she should grow based on 'Dharma' but we hardly see that in cities where 'Dhana' is ruling and everybody has to get as much as they can. There are real purohits like hidden pearls in in the depth of the ocean who are really concerned about the 'Pura' = Society and contribute for the welfare ('hita') of the same. 4. Students of Sanskrit, Veda and Vedanta : They hardly know in depth computer programming. They struggle for their career also. I asked so many students why they have taken these traditional courses. The answer was that they hadn't got good marks to go to Engineering or Medical or other basic science courses. Of course there were few pearls that were from traditional family & having pretty good marks. None of the students finishing basic & advanced studies are going to Snatakoottara Adhyayana as prescribed in Vedic syllabus. So its mere bookish thoughts, not knowledge gained from Prakruti. Complexity and bias are there in Education System and in the Government. So I think only 'Paramaatma' has to come again for uplifting the Dharma in Bharatha. **************

Sri Hemanth Kumar G responds to Sri Krishna Kumar:I do agree with Mr. Krishnakumar. These conferences are just a show off and biased by so many aspects, without any useful output. See the different 'Chintana-Mantana' ways like LokaBhiraama, Charcha, GosTi, Parishat, Vidwat SaBha, Dharma SaBha, Dharmika GosTi, Vakyartha GosTi, Vichaara Mantana GosTi and many others with perfect definition of intentions, ways to conduct. Finally the 'KumBha MeLa' was considered ultimate conference which declares the subject and the speaker as 'Jnani' of that time. These were followed in Sanatana Bharata. Rushis were also gathering in some place (Aranya), analyze different problems of society and the solutions for the same. Whatever the solution found, was to be approved by Saptarshi Parishat and implemented in the society by Prajapathi. But modernized conferences in Science, Technology, Medicine, or language are just a waste of time and money. But a good platform to build one's profile to depict the so & so publications in so & so conference!! What's the contribution in addressing the social problems? Where it will be implemented? In India what is their contribution in uplifting the living standards of all citizens based on the principles of "Dharma"? Except protecting the Oral Tradition of Veda in 11th 5 Year plan, any other contribution of these conferences in the area of Vedas has been included by the Planning Commission of India? Any aspect of Vedas is reaching the common people or just in the hands of few people who just keep on discussing in so called knowledge or talented forum? Everybody in India knows about 'Mobile Phone' but so many don't know there is something called as Veda !

What are the Vedas? It is necessary to search for the definition of the Vedas from the Vedas. Vedic research in the present context requires this documentation of what the Vedas are, as they define. It is also necessary to develop the ability to identify the Vedic chanting through listening like identifying a classical Raaga by listening to a recital. How many layers or levels are there for the Vedas like that of the information available in a computer? What is the functional relationship between the Vedas and the Yajna-Yagas? What purposes are served by the Agni/Vedic Fire? What are the Vedic Performances involving the Agni?14

How the results/manifestations/fulfilment of the defined purposes are verified and correlated to the prescribed performance? Who can perform the Vedic practices involving Agni? Can they be performed to test/verify their efficacy? What are the conditions, prerequisites and preparations for practicing Vedic Agni Vidya?

Is Vedic Agni Vidya independent of modern sciences? As the performances strictly follow the prescriptions based on the living experience of the performers who do not depend upon any of the modern scientific gadgets and techniques it goes without mention that the Vedic Agni Vidya is independent of modern sciences. Such being the case what are the parameters and standards of the prescriptions and procedures followed by the performers? How do they are verified? The Veda enabled and trained mind being the prime tool of the Vedic performances, what are the methodologies employed for this training and applying the mind to use the sense organs in the Vedic performances? What are the experiences there of? How does the performers mind get connected and linked to the Vedic Agni? What is the difference between the ordinary kitchen fire and the Vedic Agni? What are the materials used for the Vedic Agni Vidya? What are the parameters and standards of the prescriptions and procedures followed by the performers to select the materials? How they are verified? What kind of locations is specified for Vedic Agni Vidya? What is the basis of such specifications? Ancient legends and even the hard core scientific minds tell of bizarre experiences that people have had while at these sacred places. While classical physics of the recent past couldnt explain this apparently bizarre phenomenon, the latest developments in physics such as Quantum field theory have brought us to the door step of true understanding of our selves in the cosmos. Scientists and the common man at the level of Classical Physics can seldom imagine the magnitude of importance of such places and therefore disregard and ignore the miraculous phenomena which keep occurring at the holy places. They have even termed these practices as superstitious, and branded the common folks as foolish, though these sacred places have continued to be the most visited places on the globe. What is the root cause of the pilgrimage tradition that is an integral part of all religions? What do the mythological legends of the sacred sites reveal?

Epic/Puranic stories and Physiological Realities Certain places were recognized by sages and prophets as radiating cosmic power, or energy. Gods, Spirits and Angels were known to have appeared and consecrated specific geographical locations. There have been reports of blessed Pilgrims experiencing miracles of healing of mind, body and soul. The lucky few have had the solutions to perplexing problems. These phenomena were not uniform to all. These apparent discrepancies lead to disbelief among the unlucky many who were not the beneficiaries of thecosmic stuff. To the enlightened and humble soul, the founding myths of the sacred spots are nothing but coded secrets of Physiological realities revealing the true character, utility or importance of particular places that aided ultimately in the transformation of human consciousness. In this age of Hi-Tec gadgetry it is easy to explain certain processes that occur in side our bodies as we can take recourse to microscopes, PET scan and many more stupefying instruments. But in those good old days, wise people who had got knowledge were left with nothing concrete to explain, but stories that could at best associate the truth with vivid scenarios, so that the people could comprehend with ease. No more Miracles! It is known to many believers that miracles do not happen in contradiction to nature but only in contradiction to what we presently know of nature. Luckily we are at a point of time where the science of the modern times has fully matured to comprehend the science of the ancients. The prophecy of Swami Vivekananda that science and religion will meet one day has come true now. The new science of Archaeoastronomy has brought to focus the remarkable evidence that almost all ancient pilgrimage sites are topographically situated in precise alignment with certain astronomical bodies. The knowledge of networking of cosmic astrology and sacred geography is a heritage that is common to all cultures. The seers of the ancient times have recognized that there is an intricate galactic symphony of subtle forces operating upon our planet and hence on our selves, by virtue of the cyclical orbits and movements of numerous heavenly bodies that precisely map the space. The sacred places, because of their strategic location, emanate profound energetic celestial frequencies that serve as ideal portals where humans may easily access those life supporting frequencies. The times most suited to access these holy spots are the particular dates that are religiously followed in each of their founding Ithihasa/Aitihya as festivals that actually charges ones physiology with power and energy. In India we find the oldest continually operating pilgrimage tradition in the entire world.

Research Overview Sacred Pilgrim Sites Of the World Correlated With Neurological Centers In Human Nervous System. Focus: Ancient Temples Of India Correlated With Neurological Centers In The Brain Most of the intellectuals, educated in modern science, would certainly include themselves among the majority, who at times do wonder at the teeming masses in the major temples of India and at other sacred pilgrim sites the world over, competing for and content with even a split second view of the deity or the sacred object, never mind the ever spiraling congested queues, be it in the wee hours of winter or in the noon of a scorching summer. Holding on to this view, one could prefer to be left out of one of Mother Natures countless and effortless ways to re-invigorate and protect ones health. An young researcher Dr. J. Satish Kumar from India, inspired by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, has come out with startling correlations between the Human Brain & the Geography of India; thus explaining why ancient temples dedicated to different Vedic gods are found in particular geographical locations of India. For instance, his research explains why India is impregnated with spiritual mysteries through its extensive network of sacred temples, why there are relatively few such networks is other parts of the world, why in India Lord Subramanyas traditional abode is in the region of Tamilnadu; why the great Sun Temple is in Konark, Orissa; why Lord Krishnas Temple is in Guruvayoor, Kerala and so on. The extension of this discovery to other ancient pilgrim sites in different parts of the world also meaningfully correlates with the human nervous system. With this discovery we can understand that all religious scriptures and associated Pilgrim Centers (Neurological Centers) are different chapters (Parts) in the one Grand Scripture (Human Nervous System) of the Almighty. Dr. Satishs research work can be understood when one has had the opportunity to know of the path breaking discovery, that the Human Physiology is an expression of Veda and Vedic Literature by Prof. Tony Nader M.D., Ph.D., under the guidance of His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Maharishi has had far insights into the holistic functioning of a universe and had decades back categorically stated that the Veda is the basis of the Physical human body and has also predicted the present scientific developments in the realm of Quantum Physics. Also, with reference to the present discovery of Dr. Satish, in one of Maharishis book, The Doctors forum, of Natural law & national law, Maharishiji had long back stated that the Physical shape of India is the spiraling shape of RIK Veda. The total potential of Natural law has expressed itself in the shape of India. RIK Veda forms the physiology of India; RIK Veda gives a physiological structure to India.17

Thanks to the great work of Prof. Tony Nader, which proves scientifically that the impulses of RIK Veda represents the Holistic functioning of the physiology, particularly the Nervous system, Dr. Satish could look for and successfully correlate most of the ancient temples in the land of India with neurological centers in the Brain, and thus give scientific validation to Maharishijis words. Dr. Satish says that basically even the outline map of the ancient undivided India resembles the shape of the Human Brain in its sagittal view. He adds on that India has been known as the land of Vedas, not alone for its traditional role in preserving the Vedas by the chanting Vedic pundits, but primarily for the fact that its geography, as Maharishijis Quote indicates, has been etched out by the very same cosmic forces, whose impulses forms the human Physiology too. When the above mentioned facts are viewed in the context of the recent discovery of the UNIFIED FIELD by Modern Science as the basis of all laws of nature, it could be conjectured that holy pilgrimage centers with temples are situated in Active Spots where tremendous cosmic forces are at play since eternity, whose structuring intelligence forms and operates the corresponding centers in our nervous system. In common terminology the word grace has been used to denote the enlivening aspect of the cosmic forces, which has been radiating life supporting qualities and nourishing the physiology of individuals, coming with in its vicinity. Of particular significance is Prof. Tony Naders observation in his work, which states that reading particular sections of Veda & Vedic literature could enliven the corresponding parts in our Physiology. If the foresaid is true, then undertaking pilgrimages to ancient shrines of different Vedic deities, situated in cosmically strategic spots could also accomplish the same, for RIK Veda is at the basis of our human Physiology and it is that which gives a physiological structure to India too. This is how undertaking pilgrimages which has been a part of the traditions of all religions since the ancient times, enlivens the corresponding neurological correlate in our physiology, besides promoting general well being, thus largely preventing and even curing ailments. This is supported by references in Ayurveda - especially the CHARAKA SAMHITA. In it, Daiva Vyapashraya - Divine or religious therapy includes pilgrimages (Gamana) among other subtle religious methods to ward off negative influence and to promote those which are good. What is the role of COWs [of pure Indian origin] in the Yajna Bhumi? The Sanskrit hymn [Stotram] titled GoSAvithri Stotram describes the cow physiology as locations of Vedic Deities. This can be the specific theme for research to find if there are corresponding correlations. When suggested, Dr.Sathish Kumar expressed his special interest in this area. Whichever be the area of research chosen in the domain of Vedic Sciences, it is mandatory that it should fall in line with Fourfold Purushartha Sadhana which is THE PURPOSE of Veda Vidya in general and Veda-Agni Vidya in particular. This is the integral and integrated approach of the Vedas to the Vedas.

QUOTE>> All Samskrut Lovers, for your kind information Vedas are not in Samskruta language from which you are analyzing now. It has been coded in a very old language, which is known only to the people at Brahmarshi level. UNQUOTE. Hemanth Kumar G has brought the above revelation to fore, what is discussed elsewhere [double blind, as it were] by Sri Krishna Kumar, and also by Vedsri Dr. P.V.N Murthy. These people are not known to each other. If there is such a coding and if Samskrutam is NOT the language of the Vedas and IF it is known to ONLY people at Brahmarshi level, what are the mantras in vogue? This and many more doubts need to be cleared. The researchers are requested to go through the Blog by Sri Hemanth Kumar G. 1) http://veda-vijnana.blogspot.in/2012/02/aksharabhaasha-vijnana.html 2) http://veda-vijnana.blogspot.in/2012/02/siribhuvalaya-highly-alpha-numeric.html 3) http://veda-vijnana.blogspot.in/2012/01/ancient-vedic-syllabus-part-1.html 4) http://veda-vijnana.blogspot.in/2012/01/ancient-vedic-syllabus-2-brahma-vidhya.html 5) http://veda-vijnana.blogspot.in/2012/01/ancient-vedic-syllabus-2-kshtra-vidhya.html 6) http://veda-vijnana.blogspot.in/2012/01/ancient-vedic-syllabus-4-vaishya-vidhya.html 7) http://veda-vijnana.blogspot.in/2012/01/ancient-vedic-syllabus-5-shudra-vidhya.html 8) http://veda-vijnana.blogspot.in/2012/01/how-kaliyuga-witnessed-ingress-of-kali.html

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR VEDIC RESEARCH? This is better answered in person to those who seek an entry into this pursuit. However, in the context of Athirathram Mahayaga in Bhadrachalam, AP, besides the dress code and other stipulations laid down by Samavedi Thottam Sri Krishnan Namboodiri [whose father was approached by Fritz Staal, way back in 1975 to organize Athirathram in Kerala] other details will be provided during the orientation for the researchers at Bhadrachalam venue at the commencement of the research activity.
