I bring you these greetings from my sick bed. A tummy ache on a Saturday evening led to having my gallbladder removed on Sunday night. Being sick is not some- thing that I do. That’s probably one reason I drove myself to the emergency room at 3 am. I didn’t know what was wrong, but I knew that my pains were more than indigestion. Those pains turned out to be several gallbladder stones and an in- lamed gallbladder. Recovery gave me a lot of time to relect (and watch a LOT of bad television). What a blessing my DAR friendships are to me! My family has been lifted in pray- ers across the country, lowers and coloring books have been sent and meals have been prepared. A sweet friend even drove me three hours (six hours total) so I could attend my very last meeting as my chapter’s regent. People will always tell you that you make your very best DAR friends as a Junior member, but you don’t really understand until you take a step back and examine those friendships. Some of these friendships have been made as we paged alongside each other, some from working on a project together, some because of a common bond shared outside of DAR. You may be thinking to yourself, that’s great that she has these wonderful DAR friends, how can I get some for myself? National Chairs were given the opportuni- ty to record online committee presentations for Continental Congress this year. The Junior Membership presentation was recently uploaded to the Members’ web- site and can be viewed at www.dar.org/committeepresentations. This ifteen- minute presentation gives suggestions on how chapters can promote the goals of the Junior Membership committee. By building your chapter or state’s Junior Membership, you can also build a network of fabulous DAR friends. I am also excited to share that we have a new DAR Junior Membership Facebook page! You can “like” Junior Membership on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ darjuniormembership. This new public page will be another way for us to share ways to Explore Junior Membership and also publicize the work of our Junior members in a shareable format. The closed Facebook groups will still be your go- to places to ask questions and share ideas, as our public page can be accessed by anyone with a Facebook account. Please join us for the Junior Membership Forum on Thursday, June 29 at 4 pm and the Junior Membership Luncheon on Saturday, July 1 at noon as we celebrate 80 years of Exploring Junior Membership. We have lots of fun and surprises planned for our celebrations, you won’t want to miss either of these events! Keep Exploring, Jamie Burchfield Spring2017

North Platte was home of the man who made the Wild West world-renowned. No one 9igure personi9ies

the frontier spirit better than William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, the West’s most colorful showman, army

scout and buffalo hunter. Cody’s elegant Victorian house, built in 1886, and huge barn wit on 25 acres of

what was originally a 4,000-acre spread that Cody called Scout’s Rest Ranch. The barn, built in 1886, now

SC Junior explored Junior Membership by stepping back in time. The Juniors hosted a 1920s theme, "Jazz Age Glamour" at their state conference in March. Everyone donned their pearls and sported their favorite 1920s style attire at the "Compass Club" for this Gatsby-themed Jun-ior Night. Members enjoyed a

throwback experience to one of the most iconic decades in American history that was known for its fabulous fashion, jazz music, and dances such as The Charleston. DAR members celebrated the bond that DAR members share and the unique role that Junior members play in carrying on the mission of honoring God, Home, and Country. The evening’s entertainment entitled “Gloriously Gatsby” was performed by the award-winning sister act, “Gracie & Lacy.” Gracie & Lacy are Junior Members Emily and Lacy Miller of the Rebecca Motte Chapter. National Junior Mem-bership Chair, Jamie Burch9ield was the guest speaker. SC Juniors were suc-cessful in their efforts to raise money for the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund and bring awareness of Junior membership to the SC DAR.

SC Juniors also hosted a special Junior Forum for all DAR members to meet and learn about Junior Membership. The SC Junior Membership celebrated all outstanding Juniors at state confer-ence. Past state outstanding juniors were honored and recognized at the state regents banquet. SC had a record 20 chapter outstanding juniors in 2017. Each chapter outstanding junior was given a handmade corsage with compass pin to wear during the conference. The chapter outstanding jun-

iors were presented with a certi9icate at the state re-gent's banquet. This ceremony was followed by the announcement of the 2017 state winner, Mari Noorai of the Andrew Pickens Chapter.

Texas

Texas Juniors had a fantastic time "Exploring Junior Membership" during our 118th TXDAR State Conference in Dallas March 15th-19th. Congratulations to our 2017 State Outstanding Junior Lauren Miller and runner up Mary Barrow and to our Outstanding Conference

Page Christine Herron! Highlights of the conference included over 70 Pages in at-tendance, fun during our "Real House-wives of DAR" Junior Breakfast, and our wildly successful 2nd Annual Page-a-Thon (which, thanks to the leadership of Junior Membership Vice Chair, Katie Marcum, raised over $14,000.00!). This year, Texas Juniors were thrilled to honor our own Jamie Burch9ield, National Chair of Junior Membership, and her chapter (Austin Colony) as the recipients of the Juniors’ Choice Chapter, as well as name our State Regent, Judy Ostler, and Dr. Jan Garrison as the 2017 TXDAR “Honorary Juniors”. Our Junior Members remain very engaged in cultivating the future DAR and

SAR leaders of tomorrow through service as senior leaders at the society, state, and national levels with the Children of the American Revolution. Several Juniors were on hand at our Texas Society, Children of

the American Revolution State Conference in Houston March 31st-April 2nd. For the second year, the TXDAR Junior Member-ship Council sent letters of appreciation recogniz-ing our Junior Members during National Volun-teer Appreciation Week (April 23rd-29th). Letters were sent to employers and organizational lead-ers – for members who work outside of the home or serve in other leadership

roles, this can be a tremendous asset during performance appraisals, in get-ting employers to allow for time off in support of DAR events, or garnering corporate charitable support of DAR in recognition of community service hours. What a perfect opportunity to promote the current TXDAR Junior Membership theme of “Service Ties Us Together”, how DAR honors “Service to America”, and our Nation as they celebrated how “Service Unites”!

2015- 2017 Florida State Junior Membership Committee. Thanks for 2 great years of supporting the Junior Member-ship Committee!

At the 2017 Florida DAR State

Conference, Florida Juniors and

“Juniors at Heart” grabbed their

passports and explored the DAR-

world.

TamasseeDARSchool

Tamassee DAR School will hold its annual Awards Day on May 22, 2017. It will be a fun day highlight-

ing the accomplishments of the students. Everyone is encouraged to consider attending. While there,

you can tour the campus and see the recent improvements made possible by donations by DAR mem-

bers.

While at Congress, be sure to stop by the Tamassee table to shop and meet the staff and students.

There is still time to register for the DAR Schools lunch, which is a wonderful opportunity to hear cur-

rent and former Tamassee students share their stories.

If you are not able to attend Continental Congress or Tamassee Awards Day this year, there are still

many ways you can help support Tamassee. Clothes, furniture, and household items can be donated to

the thrift store on campus. Collected Box Tops can also be mailed to the school. Additionally, funds

from purchases made through the Junior shop go the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund, which help support

projects at Tamassee. Be sure to visit the Tamassee website at www.tdarschool.org for more infor-

mation about the school and visit the Junior Committee page on the Members website for more infor-

mation about the Junior shop.
