Spring is here! We hope everyone enjoyed a refreshing Spring Break. Spring

brings excitement that is contagious, and we have a lot to be excited about. I am

very proud of the achievement of our students and staff. Allen Park has been

named to the Renaissance National Honor Roll for outstanding performance in ad-

vancing students’ achievement in reading. This is the 15th consecutive year that our

school has been awarded national recognition from Renaissance Learning. Our stu-

dents know that reading leads to learning. We are proud of their commitment to

read each night and their parents who read with them.

We are very proud of our Odyssey of the Mind teams. Thank you to Mrs. Priebe and Mrs. Staehle for overseeing these teams and to their coaches: Jennifer Brooks and Steve Boesky, Brendan Fish and Theresa Goeke, Patricia Lopez and Kelli Bon-ner; and Nithya Sharma and Patricia Sareh. We had two teams place third and fifth and all teams were great representatives of the creativity and critical thinkers at Allen Park.

Our PTA continues to work hard to support our school, students and teachers. We

had a very successful Read-A-Thon, and Spring Fling is just around the corner.

Please join us for a night of fun on Friday, April 15th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. We ap-

preciate all PTA does for our school. The support from our parents and stakehold-

ers is truly overwhelming and greatly appreciated

We are excited about the fourth quarter. Our teachers are committed to provide each

student with a high quality and challenging education. The superintendent sup-

ports school and teacher decisions regarding assessment of students. Teachers will

be assessing the remaining standards appropriately through a variety of sources that

will be used for the purpose of improving instruction and learning in the classroom.

We appreciate your support as we help our students finish strong!

School Mission: A high performing school community

inspiring high perform-ing lifelong learners

School Vision: Today’s learners..

tomorrow’s leaders

Allen Park loves to read! We

hope to inspire students to be-

come lifelong readers and learn-

ers. Everyday students are

learning to use the Media Center

independently to find their

books. We are working to read,

understand, and appreciate both

fiction and non- fiction. Students

are using our Destiny catalog

system to search for books on

subjects they are interested in.

Students locate books that are in

the level and genre they need to

Thank you, to all parents of fifth

grade Art students for supporting

your children in the completion of

the Lee County Tax Collector’s

Kids Tag Art Competition. Your

children worked very hard to create

beautiful designs. We are proud to

announce that the program’s art

jurors have selected the designs of

Aanika Shetty and Stephen Pren-

diville from Mrs. Priebe’s class for

recognition and display at the 2015-

2016 Lee County Kids Tag Art

Awards of Distinction Ceremony that

will be held in May. The exact

date will be announced soon.

All Art students in grades 1-5 have

been busy creating designs for the

Leave the Scene Clean Calendar Art

Contest. Using a rubric for excel-

lence in creativity, several artworks

will be chosen from each grade level

to enter the contest. Entry forms

will be sent home for your approval

and signature. Please return the

entry form to Ms. Fansler by Mon-

day, March 18.

Many outstanding works of art by

Allen Park student artists will be on

display at the Alliance for the Arts

Student Art Show April 7 through

April 15. Please attend to see all of

the wonderful works of art by Lee

County Middle through elementary

students. For all students whose art

is in the show, there will be a Stu-

dent Art Reception on Wednesday,

April 6. Participating students will

receive an invitation to attend.

meet their Accelerated Reading

goals. Our millionaire board contin-

ues to expand as more and more

students reach the million word

mark.

Student projects are often displayed

in the Allen Park Media Center.

Currently we are featuring solar

system models from Mrs. Armeros’

class. We showcase new books,

favorite authors, and holiday books

creating a fun and inviting learning

place for our students.

In April, we will host celebrations for

the Children’s Book Award Program

and the Sunshine State Young Read-

er’s Award. Students and classes

who have participated in these activi-

ties will come to the Media Center to

vote for their favorite books and enjoy

refreshments.

Read on, Allen Park!

Give your child a chance to com-

bine math practice and exercise

with daily “math breaks”. Give

directions that include a math

problem and a fitness activity. For

example say “Do 2+2 jumping

jacks” or “Do 11-2 cartwheels.”

I promise to

do my best

every day to be

a bucket filler,

not to dip, and

to use my lid

for myself and

others at home,

at school, and

everywhere I

go.

Donations Needed

The clinic is still in need of certain sizes of clothing for boys and girls. If you can donate, we ask for boys’ bottoms, tops, and underwear sizes 6-

14, and boys’ shoes sizes 3-7. Also, we need girls’ bottoms, tops, and underwear sizes 8-14, and girls’ shoes sizes 3-7. Thank you in advance for your donations!

Get active!

Engaging in physical activity as a family can

be a fun way to get everyone moving.

Give children toys that encourage physi-

cal activity like balls, kites, and jump

ropes.

Encourage children to join a sports

team or try a new physical activity.

Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Walk around the block after a meal.

Make a new house rule: no sitting still

during television commercials.

Find time to spend together doing a fun

activity: family park day, swim day or

bike day

Volunteer to help with afterschool physi-

cal activity programs or sports teams.

Play tag, swim, toss a ball, jump rope,

hula-hoop, dance to music or even play

a dancing video game. It doesn’t have to

be sports—just get your family moving!

Walk the dog, go for a jog, go on a bike

ride, take the stairs or head to the park

and let kids run around for a while.

Celebrate special occasions—like birth-

days or anniversaries—with something

active, such as a hike, a volleyball or

soccer game or playing Frisbee at the

park.

re is mystery. We have several Million Word readers and will probably have a few more before the end of the school year. Fourth quarter might also in-clude a Florida project which will incorporate a variety of skills. Students have been firing up the neurons as they are solving logic problems and analogies. They will be terrific help to you on your next road trip because of their outstanding map skills. Ad-ditionally, they are going to be-come quite the world detective using atlases to find all kinds of locations.

In Mrs. Kelly’s class, we are busy, busy, busy! Customary and Metric Units of Measurement is the name of the game in Math! We are working hard on review-ing math strategies that encom-pass what we have been learning the entire year. In Science, we have just finished analyzing Prop-erties of Matter, as well as, Speed and Motion. Reading for details, identifying the main idea, se-quencing events and comparing and contrasting are the topics of discussion as we dive into read-ing comprehension strategies. Analyzing texts and pulling out the important details that give support for our answers is a con-cept we have been working on all year and continue to do so. It is a lot of work and takes a lot of practice. When we are at school, the fun never ends.

Mrs. Redding’s class knows that “batter is matter”. We cooked up pancakes in class and learned how the matter changed state and how it was unable to return

Students in Mrs. Bond’s fourth grade classroom are MATH GE-NIUSES! We are working to master measurement and geome-try standards. In Social Studies we are learning about Florida’s involvement in the Spanish American War, the Great De-pression, World War II and the Civil Rights Movement. Reading has exposed us to several new genres and the students are working hard to meet their AR goals. We can’t believe that we are headed into the final quarter!

Students in Ms. Cox & Ms. But-ler’s class have been busy work-ing on learning new skills as well as practicing everything we’ve learned this year! We are very proud of all the effort our stu-dents are putting forth as they master concepts such as area and perimeter, conversions, and solv-ing word problems in math. The Great Depression & World War II are some of the topics we’ve been discussion in Social Stud-ies; and in Science we completed experiments to learn more about speed and motion. We are look-ing forward to a fantastic 4th quarter with lots of reading and fun times with friends.

Mrs. Fetterhoff’s students are reading up a storm in a variety of genres. The quarter 4 book pro-ject is a puzzle and the book gen-

to its original state. After many months of working together to care for our tadpole and keep his environment clean, he has finally completed the metamorphosis process into a Leopard Frog! Once the process began, it was VERY exciting for the 4th graders to witness how quickly the changes took place. Students are continuously adding more examples and explanations into their math journals each day. They even put together a large gallon man to assist in visu-alizing the customary measure-ments of liquid volume. We are excited about the 4th QTR of school and looking forward to the fun learning opportunities and field trips ahead.

Here in Mr. Kopp's class we've been studying Florida's involve-ment in World War II and the civil rights movement. In Math we've finished up with area & perimeter and will begin stand-ard units of measurement. In Language Arts we have been working on informational text. A big thank you to everyone at home for their continued sup-port of our classroom.
