Progress at Home, a JCAHO accredited home health agency, is partnering with The Salvation Army of Genesee County to help local children academically through a special reading pro-gram entitled Mission:Literacy.

Hundreds of Genesee County children struggle academically because they do not have the basic reading skills necessary to compete with their peers. Prog-ress at Home and The Salvation Army want to make a difference

in the life of a child by introduc-ing them to the Mission:Literacy program. Progress at Home will sponsor one child for each refer-ral that retains their home health care services, which include durable medical equipment, dis-ease management, therapies and much more. Mission: Literacy, developed by the American Bible Society, is a scripture-based, multicultural literacy curriculum that raises children’s reading

skills while they learn 30 bible stories. Mission: Literacy is now offered in 29 states across the country with over 100 Salvation Army sites offering the program. By partnering with Progress at Home and The Salvation Army through the Mission: Literacy program, you can help local children improve academically and socially through the gift of reading. Advanced Screening has teamed up with Michelle Mau-reau D.O of Flint and its new laboratory and diagnostic imaging

center. Both are now open for business in Grand Blanc and Flint. The newly formed alliance of decade old Advanced Screen-

ing and Wellness, of Grand Blanc is an idea that Executive Jeff Ruff had back in 1999. The model is currently working well with another excel-lent group: Complete Health Care at 8401 Holly Road in Grand Blanc under the medical direction of Dr. Roland Tindle. The model targets individuals and employers with direct ac-cess to deeply discounted and preventative healthcare services and physician guidance when appropriate. Clients will have access to thousands of standard and custom blood tests, diagnos-tic and screening ultrasound tests for heart disease, stroke and peripheral artery disease as well as more basic healthcare services at very low fees. Other more customized tests such as genetic testing, blood tests for cancer and heart disease, female and male hormone testing, fatigue and vitamin deficiency tests will also be available with prevention in mind. Typical tests normally performed such as EKG, blood pressure and targeted health information on disease, womens’ health, genetic testing and well-ness are also offered. Diagnos-

tic ultrasound test for people without insurance and ordered by their physician are available in our clinic at very reasonable fees. “Much lower than the hospital or imaging center”, says Ruff. “Today’s healthcare environ-ment finds millions of people without health insurance, high co pays or high deductibles strug-gling with how to stay proactive about their health. Many more have no doctor or have not seen their doctor in years for fear of the cost, outcome or the thought that tests which are ordered will be too expensive to afford”. Hours of Operation are 8-8 Monday through Friday, Saturday hours by appointment. More information is available by calling 1-800-541-8110. You can also view www.myhealthway.com for more information or to register for the FREE carotid artery test being offered during National Stroke Awareness Month a both locations during the month of May. The test will be offered by appointment only and available to employers and their employ-ees.
