Hello Residents,

It’s April once again! Lots of fun times coming your way. Valerie Farmer, our Activities Director, has lots of items scheduled for your enjoyment this month. I would like to encourage all of you to look at your calendar and sign up for any outside trips, so that you have ample opportunity to get out of the building and enjoy the incoming spring.

Also, let me remind you that we have a beautiful walking trail through our Regency park. You may see a lot of our grounds keeper in the next few weeks out in the park. He is going to re-fresh our garden areas and re-mulch. Maintenance will be put-ting out some flowers in the outside baskets and flower pots. Last year, some residents assisted with watering the flowers, while other residents enjoyed planting their favorite flowers. If anyone would like to enjoy some light gardening, please let us know.

So, as we journey through April, I wish all of you a very happy spring! We appreciate you for being a part of our Regency family.

Hats off to all who participated in our March FUNtastic Friday: Crazy Hat Day. There were some pretty in-teresting hats! Probably the most unique was Priscilla’s “Bee on my Bonnet” Hat. We had a great time being silly in our crazy hats. Even Charlie & J.R. joined in! Of course, no party would be complete without snacks. We enjoyed some cupcakes, Cheetos puffs, cheese sticks, and other delicious treats. We learned the history of hats & went through a list of phrases using the word “hat”. So, “Hold onto your hat” because you will not want to miss next month’s FUNtastic Friday: Camouflage Day. This should be interesting...

FUNtastic Friday: Crazy Hat Day – March 3rd

There were a few clowns running around our building on Tuesday, March 7th. Thankfully, they were just part of our Carnival Theme Lunch. We transformed the Main Dining Room with 3 beautiful, colorful tents. The menu was very reminiscent of a trip to a carnival. We enjoyed delicious supreme pizza, corn dogs, chili cheese tots, caramel apples & funnel cakes. Yum! Everyone had a great time! We look forward to April’s Theme Lunch: Italian Day, on Thursday, April 13th.

Carnival Theme Lunch – March 7th

Wow! Those who attended the mini concert by the Jubilate Choir, from the University of VA at Charlottes-ville, would certainly agree that this one word would sum up their performance. The 14 young men and women sacrificed their Spring Break to come to TN to minister to us and other retirement communities and nursing homes. That alone is very special, but to add the beautiful singing and great talent they had- just, wow. After they left, we discovered a note they left on the “Brag Board”. They said, “Thank you for let-ting us share our music with you. You are all so hospitable.” Isn’t that precious?!? Hopefully they will travel this way again.

Jubilate Choir – March 8th

We took the afternoon to honor some very special people, our 2016 Employees of the Month & Employee of the Year. On hand to take part in the celebration were Randy Holcombe & Jeff Clay. Each supervisor shared something about their employee who had earned the distinction of being Employee of the Month. Randy then presented Lois Williams with a beautiful award. Afterwards, we enjoyed some delicious treats supplied by Dietary. Marie made a beautiful cake featuring the name of each honoree. We also had some assorted vegetables, cheese, and a delicious, homemade carrot cake that was out of this world!

Regency is very blessed with volunteers. We are hosting a luncheon in honor of those who volunteer in any capacity at Regency. There are many ways that volunteers help us on a daily basis at Regency, including our Residents Council, volunteering in the Regency Store, watering plants, distributing newsletters, calling Bin-go, and more. We would like to say “thank you” by preparing a special meal just for you. This will be held on Tuesday, April 4th at noon in the Bingo Room. There will be a sign up sheet located outside the Coffee Shop in the Green Transportation Book. Please sign up if you are able to attend, so we will know how much food to prepare. Thank you for all you do!

A new program on Healthy Living will be brought to us by our friends at the UT Agricultural Extension. This program is teaching us how to “Eat Smart, Live Strong”. The 4 week course will help us learn some tips on healthy eating & exercise, the benefits to our overall health. Come join us!

It’s so hard to say good-bye, especially to some-one who has lived at Re-gency for 19 years! Joan Kuntzendorf moved into Regency in February, 1998. Joan was very ac-tive at Regency — taking care of the Coffee Shop

& setting up for the weekly Church Service. She was very meticulous and tidy & performed all her duties with a smile. Joan recently moved to Texas to be near her two sons. We are so happy & excit-ed for Joan’s new adventure, but we already miss her! Joan, we wish you all the best & want to say, “Thank you” for sharing these 19 years with us. You have left us each a better person by knowing you. Joan is pictured with Trudy, our Executive Direc-tor, who has also been at Regency for 19 years.

Saying Goodbye to Joan

We will board the Star of Knoxville Riverboat and set sail on a beautiful tour of the Dogwood trail while feasting on a delicious meal. We will leave Regency at 9:45 am. We will load the boat, then sail out at noon. The cruise lasts 1.5 hours and includes an on-board lunch, as well as either live entertain-ment or a narration from the captain. The cost of the ride is $32 per person. We have a strict deadline of Friday, April 7th. Signups are required. Please sign up in the Green Book located on 2nd floor outside the Coffee Shop. Just a reminder, always check the daily sheets, located on the elevators, on the bulletin boards on each floor & in the common areas, for the most up-to-date information. Sometimes things are added to the calendar after they are printed. Occasionally we have cancellations, as well. The daily sheets are the most accurate schedule of events for each day.

Finally! After several requests, we are hosting a Health Fair from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. This Health Fair will be an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about area organizations & maybe get some great stuff, too! In addition, this year we will offer some “interactive classes” that will be beneficial to everyone. More information will be given to you a little closer to the date. Please see Valerie, Katrina, Meredith, or Susan if you have any questions.

Billie Jean was born in Pike County, KY, but raised in Matewan, WV. After she graduated school, she went to work for Matewan Lumber Company where she worked for over 40 years. She was the President/Manager for over 30 years. After she left the Lumber Company, she went to work for a bank. She started as a teller, but became a loan officer. She was there until her retirement. After they retired, they moved to TN to be closer to family.

She was married to Gene Olaker. They had 1 son together, Kenny. Billie Jean also has 2 stepsons — Gene Jr. & Rick, & 1 stepdaughter, Lynn. They all live in Georgia. Billie Jean & Gene loved to travel and have traveled all over the world. They also loved to dance.

Gene passed away in June, 2012. Billie Jean made the decision not to stay home alone & moved into Regency in August, 2012. Billie Jean likes to stay busy, always participating in activities. The family says the aspect of Regency

they like the most is the staff.
