The Impact of Energetics

Naval weapon systems use energetic materials and systems (EMS)across all domains – undersea, surface, air, and land –

and will continue to rely on them well into the future


Current Situation

Threats are growing and getting more complex• Future conflicts will not be limited to line-of-

sight engagements• Future Naval Warfighters will require

plentiful, lighter and more capable energetic solutions

• Potential adversaries will continue to seek advantage through the development of advanced EMS

Our EMS capabilities need to advance or adapt to meet emerging Warfighter needs –EMS is NOT a technologically frozen commodity

The Nation has accepted risk in EMS, impacting our warfighting capability and technical sustainment ability


To preserve our Naval capability, a renewed focus must be engaged on

the health and development of EMS –an Energetics Renaissance!

In collaboration with Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, IHEODTD is developing a technology roadmap and

comprehensive stakeholder engagement campaign
