PATIENTS All are US Veterans
Currently we receive approximately 100 applications per
month
Veterans from every war since World War II
Veterans from more recent wars tend to be in need of
restorative procedures and preventative treatments
Veterans from older wars tend to be in great need of
removable prosthodontics
Vietnam, agent orange, severe periodontal problems
11/20/10 clinic: 23 units of removable prosth were needed
Earlier treatment and patient education will help
mitigate the need for so many dentures.
32
PATIENTS
How do we decide who to treat????
Tough decision!
Due to overwhelming need and limited supply, not all
veterans can be treated
Veterans who experienced combat in their military
careers are put to the top of the list
Patients in pain are also considered to be a priority
33
PATIENTS
Maximizing patient care
Most veterans show up
early for their appointments
Sometimes treatment is
completed before the 4 hour
treatment block is over.
5 reserve patients are
scheduled to fill empty
chairs that may become
available
If they are not seen as a
reserve patient, they have
priority for treatment at the
next clinic. 34
