TRANSCRIPT
Using architecture and design as a metaphor for all learning helps students explore how
things work…it is not just the acquisition of bits of information,
it is exploring….
Investigating, Creating, Imagining, Understanding,
and Connecting…Architectureis a concrete way into abstract
ideas…using this metaphor moves students into
higher-order thinking.
Understanding cultures through the buildings they build…
architecture is about math, art, science, history, and the structure of language--
The world around us is a world of numbers—numbers that spell
life and harmony.
Teaching students to look for the patterns that are found in
every discipline.
Teaching students to become the architects of their own lives…designing a life of meaning and purpose.
Composition: Music, Art, Literature, Dance, Social
Structures, Social Justice, and on and on and on…it is all
about design!
Sometimes education crushes the spirit and the imagination of children.
Compress the mind or Expand the mind: Lake Wales
High School is choosing Expansion
Aesthetic: The guiding principle in matters of artistic
beauty
We will teach students become the stewards of this sanctuary for learning on Iron Mountain.
Just as music, where deep voices answer high ones, and intermediate ones are pitched between them so they ring out
in harmony... a wonderful balance of proportions is the
mind.
Leon Battista Alberti 1755
Design is a critical thread that runs through every aspect of our
lives—intellectual, emotional, and ethical.
Edward W. Bok understood this truth.
It is only a question of opening our eyes to the extraordinary world around us. Nature has
been lavish in good design. It is there for us to see, exposed in full view, within our reach at all
times, without even moving from where we are.
