A Night In BethlehemThe Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce invites the community to its 18th annual FORE Cy-Fair Golf Tournament at Blackhorse Golf

Club on Monday, October 3.The tournament benefits the Adam J. Skinner Memorial Scholarship of the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation. A scholarship has been established

in his memory and the Chamber has contributed more than $104,000 to date to the endowment.Player registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. A putting contest and the opening of the driving range will follow at 10:00 a.m. Shotgun start will

be at 11:00 a.m. with the awards, dinner, raffle and silent auction at 4:00 p.m.“This tournament continues to grow each year and provides a great networking opportunity for businesses in the Cy-Fair community,” Leslie

Martone, President of the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce said. “This event brings those who do business in this community together to raise funds and awareness for a great cause.”

The tournament is underwritten for the first year by Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital. Returning for its third year as the CFISD sponsor, which includes the opportunity to play with the CFISD Superintendent, Dr. Mark Henry, is IBI Group.

The True Texan sponsorship is still available and offers the opportunity to play with Commissioner Jack Cagle. This $5,000 sponsorship will receive two team entries, four hole sponsorships, a tournament trophy, hospitality tent at hole of choice and logo recognition in all promotional material.

For the past 20 years, Box Tops for Education has been supporting local schools. The program is simple, and everyone can help. Simply clip the Box Tops from products you already buy (Cheerios, Ziplocs, Kleenex, etc.), place them in a bag, and

drop them off at the Emmott Elementary front office. After the school’s volunteer Box Top coordinator submits the Box Tops, a check is sent to the school twice a year, so the school can purchase needed items. Every Box Top gives the school 10 cents which means one hundred Box Tops becomes $10 and a thousand Box Tops becomes $100. The numbers add up quickly when everyone works together. Harris County deployed its mobile radar unit along Steepleway Blvd between 9/7 and 9/9. This was done at the request of the Association’s BOD.

During this time period (46 hours), 2,119 vehicles were clocked. 69.5% were speeding (31mph or higher); 20.3% were traveling at 36mph or higher.

SCIA has requested the deployment of this unit at additional locations within Steeplechase as the unit becomes available. This is an effort to inform drivers as to their speed and to help maintain traffic at posted speeds.

Cypress 5K Fun Run and Puppy Parade

Cypress and Houston area residents can strengthen their families, their bodies, their neighborhood school, and their dogs at a very fun family friendly event this fall. Cypress 5K Fun Run and Puppy Parade benefiting the Performing Arts Department at Spillane Middle School will take place Saturday, November 19th at 9:00 a.m. at Spillane Middle School, 13403 Spillane Woods Blvd.

The event is the school’s third annual Fun Run, and will feature a timed run. You don’t have to be a competitive runner to participate since the race also features a family run for those pushing strollers or wanting to walk, and a dog walking segment. The race will begin at Spillane Middle School, and go through the Coles Crossing neighborhood. Medals will be awarded in multiple age brackets, and to the first three dogs who cross the finish line.

While generating funds to support the school's award-winning Performing Arts programs is one goal of this run, event organizers want to strengthen the school's ties to the community as well as encourage community spirit and fitness. The race has become an

Houston Repertoire Ballet's The NutcrackerHRB’s masterful production is the highlight of the holidays!

New England Clam Chowder• 3/4 ounce salad oil• 1/2 teaspoon chopped garlic• 1 cup diced celery • 1 cup diced carrots• 1 cup diced onions • 1/2 teaspoon basil • 1/2 teaspoon oregano • 1 teaspoon thyme • 1/2 teaspoon salt• 3/4 gallon clam stock or juice• 3 large peeled and diced potatoes• Roux (3/4 pound butter and 1 1/2 cups flour) • 2 cups drained, chopped clams

In large pot, sauté the oil and garlic about 2 minutes. Add diced

vegetables and sauté for 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Add herbs and salt. Add clam stock and bring to a boil. Add potatoes and bring to a boil again. Add roux and chopped clams, reduce heat and simmer for one hour.

Yield: 10 to 12 servings.Prep Time: 20 minutesCook Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
