October 3, 2019 A Note From the Principal: It’s hard to believe we are already into October. The weather makes us think it is still summer. We have much to celebrate at Forest Creek Elementary and we are grateful for the strong partnerships of all our families! Thank you!! I would like to recognize Michelle Vogl, ITS and Ella Elliott, Librarian for writing and receiving an innovation grant of nearly $10,000 for the project, “Makersquare.” This grant will be used to help create a makerspace in a room at the back of the library. All students will benefit from STEAM-like activities and experiences in this makerspace. We are very excited to add this innovative opportunity to our school to enhance experiences and learning for all students. Our book fair is ready for the teachers, students and families to enjoy. The theme this fall is “Arctic Adventure, Snow Much to Read!.” The students cannot walk past the library without peeking in the windows because it is so inviting and interesting. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped set up and create this winter wonderland for our students to enjoy. Shopping for students and families will be all next week, October 7--11. Hours of operation are 7:30--4:30 with extended hours on Thursday from 7:30--6:00. Tomorrow is our Healthy Lifestyles event with PTA from 6:00--8:00. There will be several vendors to visit and gather information for your family. We look forward to seeing so many of you there. I know our PTA has worked hard to make this a fantastic event. Literacy Partners are matched with two children (Kdg, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd graders) and teachers can provide the books. The Literacy Partner reads with each student individually for 15 minutes each week for the year. The child will be so excited to read with you and talk to you about books each week and you will be a huge positive influence in the student’s reading and language skills. You will be amazed at the impact your 15 minutes per week will have on the child’s reading skills, confidence, and joy of learning! Can you help?

OMS Toy Drive for Dell Children’s Hospital and

The Children’s Blood and Cancer Center

Our Service club team is reaching out to tell you about OMS. OMS is opsoclonus myoclonus syndrome which is a rare childhood disease that has no cure. The doctor’s think it is caused when the child’s immune system tries to fight a cancerous tumor and instead the tumor attacks the brain.

One of our 4th grade students has this disease and his mom came and spoke to the service club to raise awareness. She is helping us lead this toy drive, which benefits Dell Children’s Hospital and The Children’s Blood and Cancer Center.

We collect NEW toys and gift cards for babies, children and teens at the hospital. Baby blankets, Legos, books, art supplies, stuffed animals, baby toys, action figures, games, Amazon gift cards ($10-$15) etc..are all great options for our drive. Our goal is to collect 150 toys by October 31, 2019. Put the toys in the box by the office and give any gift cards to your teacher. Please help us put a smile on a sick child’s face by donating some toys. Thank you so much for you kindness!
