Welcome! Are you new?

Each year during the Easter Vigil service on Holy Saturday night, a fire is kindled in a metal bowl,

called a brazier. From the brazier comes a “new” and blessed fire that lights the Paschal candle which

is carried in procession into the dark church. The “new” fire serves as an image of the Resurrection.

Dear Prince of Peace Family,

We have a most urgent

need for volunteer ushers at

our Saturday and Sunday

Masses. I extend a huge

“thank you” for the gener-

ous service of all our ushers,

past and present. The Dio-

cese of Charleston has these

important requirements in place:

Diocesan policy says that “church personnel” (defined

in the policy as all employees and all volunteers with

access to minors) “will be background screened” and

complete an educational program on the prevention of

child sex abuse. If they do not comply, the policy also

states that “their offer of employment will be with-

drawn” or “they will not be accepted as a volunteer.”

Ushers are considered church personnel and, as such,

much comply with the policy.

It is crucial to establish a safe environment at our par-

ish. We, therefore, need all church personnel to par-

ticipate in the creation of a safe environment for our

minors and comply with our diocesan policy.

Please prayerfully consider stepping up to serve in this vital

ministry at Prince of Peace, our “Spiritual Home,” by con-

tacting Marco De Maria, Head Usher, at 864.414.3090.

Yours in Christ,

Phil Head, Jr.

Director of Administration

Often, the support needed is a meal (homemade or

takeout), gift cards, carpooling, a grocery run, snack

drop off, and more. A group of school-based volun-

teers sign up to participate and needs are communi-

cated to this group. If you’re a family in the school

Fr. Smith extends his appreciation to the parishion-ers who generously gave to the Bishop’s Annual Ap-peal resulting in this letter from our Bishop! Dear Father Smith, As you know, the Bishop’s Annual Appeal makes it possi-ble for the Diocese to support and engage in many very important ministries. I write to you to congratulate you in your great increase from the 2016 to 2017 Annual Ap-peal collections. The record of $68,620 collected in 2017 indicates a 28.8% increase from the $53,276 raised in 2016. I want to thank you for your hard work and support in this im-portant effort. In the Lord’s Peace, Most Reverend Robert E. Guglielmone Bishop of Charleston

We ask all parishioners to pray for our First

Communicants who will be receiving their

First Holy Communion 28 April.

Dear Lord, we ask You to bless our First Communi-

cants who will soon receive the Holy Eucharist for

the first time. May You fill them with Your grace and

inspire them to imitate the saints in a time in the

world. May they be protected by our Blessed Mother

and surrounded by legions of angels as they journey

in their faith. Amen

For all those not able to receive our LORD in the Eucharist: If you are unable to receive Holy Com-munion for whatever reason, make a Spiritual Com-munion by reciting the following:

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacra-ment. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacra-mentally, come at least spiritually into my heart, as though You have already come. I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be

separated from You.

The Totus Tuus Potluck is scheduled for 25

July 2018. All parishioners are welcome to enjoy

an evening of fellowship, even if you do not have

children participating in the program.
