Story title: - A place where you belong

Summary: -

Born during a time when females are treated as chatels and

are considered a disappointment, Adelina Di Angelo, a nave

Italian girl of noble blood strives to prove a womens worth.

Becoming engaged to a local nobleman whom she dislikes

with a fiery passion, she does the one thing that she can to

get out of the forced commitment other than by taking her

own life- she runs away, hiding on a ship heading to England

for trade. There, she encounters a mysterious Mr. Alden,

who seems to have even darker secrets than she.

Of course, having her life threatened on a daily basis, being

beaten bloody and bruised, and developing a severe case of

Stockholm Syndrome isntfirst on her priority list. How long

will the barely seventeen Adelina be able to cope with all

these troubles in her life?

Chapter 1: -

Adeline Di Angelo walked across the bustling streets of

Siena, her hometown of sixteen years, urgently looking for a

dress to wear that evening. After all, she barely ever got a

summons from her father and it was rather curious that she

did now. However, she decided not to give too much thought

to it, for it would do no good.

She had just turned seventeen the previous week and ever

since then both her parents had been acting quite oddly.

They would keep sneaking nervous glances at her when they

suspected that she wasnt looking and her darling mother

had been quite reserved the past few days. Now, she

thought, maybe it had something to do with her fathers

summons?

Her father was a wealthy man, no doubt. Ricardo Di Angelos

name was famous in all of Italy. Adeline had acquired her

fathers sharp features and ability to lookstern, even at themost spine-chilling moments. Her mother was the sweet

Claudia, the most beautiful woman around, what with her

tall, slender body and heart-shaped face that Adeline had

inherited which graced full, supple lips, a perfectly sloped

nose and kind hazel colored eyes.

Adeline had the most unusual features, according to the rest

of society. She was short, for one, standing about threeinches shorter that most women around. She was petite and

curvaceous though, with perfectly toned arms and legs as

well as a deep tan that made her naturally olive skin glow at

the seems. Her lips were even fuller than her mothers, pouty

with the perfect archers bow. Her nose was straight and

thin and rested in between two high and sharp cheekbones.

Her hair was dark brown, bordering black, and feel in

luscious waves down to her mid-waist.

Her most alien feature, though, were her eyes. Oh, her eyes-

people say that the eyes are doors to the soul and hers

granted this statement reality. Large cat-shaped eyes

painted a deep emerald with hazel specks around the pupil.

Intense, yet incredibly breath-taking. Warm like lush grass,

yet cold like sparkling diamonds. She was definitely different

and she never really appreciated that.

Adeline sighed unhappily and she strolled along. Due to her

different looks, she was bound to catch attention of the

opposite sex. She had started getting marriage proposals at

the age of fifteen, which she found odd and disgusting. Some

had even been from thirty-year-old men, for heavens sake!

She was worried most of the day on her seventeenth

birthday, because at that age your parents have the right to

marry you off to whomever they wish, with or without your

consent.

She never trusted men all that much. She had grown up in a

place where women were treated like property- bought likeslaves and considered a disgrace to be born. Her mom had

given her a lecture on her birthday about what proper ladies

were expected to behave. They were to just serve their

husband, cook, clean and provide their children. Why the

women never rebelled, Adeline could never understand. She

certainly had all her life, and if her father had been like any

other, she would have definitely have gotten hearty beatings

all the time.

She winced as she saw an old man who seemed to be in his

fifties feel up a young woman who looked around twenty

five and wore a very uncomfortable expression on her face.

The man was obviously the womans husband and she had

no doubt that she was just one out of many other of his

wives who got molested in public.

Adeline shook her head in disgust and walked into a fancy

dress-shop, which her nanny had recommended to her. She

skipped around the shop looking through gowns and day-

wear until she came across a beautiful fitted dress which

matched her eyes and had golden lining.
