• The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a
tandem two-seat, twin-engined, all-weather,
long-range supersonic jet interceptor
fighter/fighter-bomber originally developed for
the United States by Mc Donnell Dougles
Aircraft Company.
ENGINES WERE PRODUCED
• In 1951,its’ engines(J-79)were produced byGeneral Electiric Company.
• In 1953,engine ground tests were completed.
• Next,it was tested by attaching it to a bomber plane.Then,this engine
installed a jet airplane and it wasexperienced.Finally,in 1956,
engines installed F4.In 1957,first test
flight occured.
• J-79 ENGINE WAS INSTALLED ON F-4 IN 1956
• PHANTOM’S FIRST TEST FLIGHT IN 1957
• In 1959 and in 1960 F4 broke an airspeedrecord.

F4 PHANTOMS IN TÜRKİYE
• F-4E “Phantom-II”
• RF-4E “Phantom-II” GAFRF-4E “Phantom-II”
• F-4E 2020 “Terminator”
• The first two F-4E “Phantom”s serial numbers73-1016 and 73-1017 were flown to the 1st Jet Air Base by USAF pilots on 30.08.1974.
• TuAF has acquired 236 “Phantoms” as newpurchases or as transfers from other NATO countries. 54 of these were RF-4E’s.
• The 5000th F-4E “Phantom” is operational at the 112nd Squadron.
• THE 5000 th F-4E IS SHOWN DURING IT WAS DELIVEREDTO TURKEY
MODERNIZATION
• The fist two planes, 73-1025 and 73-1032 were flown to Israel on February 27th in1997. The upgrading of the first plane wascompleted and on February 11th in 1999. 73-1032 made its first test flight. The firstdeliveries to the Turkish Air Force started on January 20th, 2000 and the upgrading wascompleted in 2003.
