INTRODUCTION • According to the increasing demand of different Renewable sources of

energy , This project is about the installation of a 10 MW solar thermal energy power plant especially in the hill areas of the Uttrakhand to generate electricity.

• The anticipated demand of the energy for Uttarakhand for the year 2011-12 is 10480 MU and the available energy is 8363 MU; while the peak demand of the state is 1600 MW and the availability is of 1430 MW.

• The power generation service available with the PLUGS energy association provides an efficient and low cost method to generate power .

• Our company PLUGS energy association Industry provides a way to harness the easily available renewable source of energy to give power without creating any hazard to environment.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

According to the increasing demand of different Renewable sources of energy it would be quite impossible to fulfill the demands of the civilization, hence to generate some efficient power backups .

16819.8 – 18916.2 square meter.

To take up energy access programs for rural and remote areas through solar energy.

To promote integrated power generation projects of solar with conventional & renewable sources.

METHODOLOGYData Gathering: Before installing the Power Plant there be initial inspection

of the whole Area of different parameters like:- Total area to be covered- 16819.8 – 18916.2 square meter Total people living nearby. Equipment and tool are in use. Geographical overview of that selected area. Transportation system. Power backups.

PHASE I1) Site Identification – Identifying a Suitable Site for Building the Solar Plant.Note the Area should not be heavily forested and have easy access to the Roads and the Power Grid.2) Preliminary Financial Analysis – Preliminary Financial Feasibility with inputs like the Land Costs,Solar Insolation,Interconnection possibility with the Power Grid Operator3) Land Leasing or Buying – After Step 2 has passed,then begins the Acquisition of the Land through Lease or Ownership.4) Basic Engineering Design/Technology Selection – An Engineering Layout is prepared along with the Selection of the Technology and Vendors of Solar Equipment

PHASE II5) Permitting – Various Permitting Procedures need to be followed in this Step.This is specific to an Area and can be quite cumbersome.For eg. in the USA the permitting involves very heavy costs forming almost 15-20% of the cost of a Solar Project.6) Power Purchase Agreement – A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) needs to be signed with the Power Utility who will buy the Electricity7) Selection of EPC – A System Integrator or a Solar EPC Contractor is selected.In case an EPC Contractor is selected then Solar Panels ,Mounting and Inverters needs to be purchased if the Contract is not a Turnkey One8) Financing of the Solar Project needs to be done.Note Solar Power Plants require a high initial investment with very low O&M costs.In general 60-80% of the Project is Debt Financed.9) Testing and Connection to Grid – After the Solar Plants is built,Testing of the Plant has to be done before it is connected to the Power Grid

LIMITATIONS• The initial cost of purchasing and installing solar panels always become the

first disadvantage when the topic of solar energy comes up. The cost of installing solar panels is bit high.

• The crucial issue is what can solar thermal systems do in winter. Their geometry means that their winter output typically goes down to the region of 20% of summer output.

• Central receivers seem costly.

• Houses which are covered by trees and landscapes and surrounded by huge buildings may not be suitable enough for installing a solar energy system.

• Installation requires 16819.8 – 18916.2 square meter which is difficult in hilly region.

production during winters.

RISKS• Climate and weather risk - Risk of changes in electricity

generation due to lack of sunshine or snow covering solar panels for long periods of time.

• Malfunctioning of the level transmitter on the Deaerator led to dry running of boiler feedwater pump .

• The base power charge will be paid to you by (DISCOMS). Most of them are in very bad financial health. So there is default risk.

• Risk of unscheduled plant closure due to the lack of resources, equipment damages or component failures

Risk Analysis• In contrast to photovoltaic systems, solar thermal power plants can

guarantee capacity During periods of bad weather or during the night, a parallel, fossil fuel burner can produce steam; this parallel burner can also be fired by climate.

• The collector efficiency depends on the angle of incidence of the sunlight and the temperature in the absorber tube, and can reach values up to 75%. Field losses are usually below 10%. Altogether, solar thermal trough power plants can reach annual efficiencies of about 15%.

• However, the whole power plant is not without other uses, as the outer area under the collector roof can also be utilized as a greenhouse for agricultural purposes. As with trough and tower plants, the minimum economical size of solar chimney power plants is also in the multi-megawatt range
