El Rodeo Invades Washington, D.C. During

Spring Break By Ms. Garratt

Thirty-three El Rodeo s t u d e n t s v i s i t e d Washington, D.C. during Spring Break accompanied by Ms. Garratt and Mr. Elitzur. Highlights of this year’s trip included a visit inside the White House, Capitol Hill and the Pentagon. These sorts of special opportunities have become increasingly more difficult to get since 911. Fortunately, some parents had great connections and made it happen. Some other regular stops that were really enjoyable were the Spy Museum, Fords Theatre, Mount Vernon, Williamsburg, the Holocaust Museum, Jamestown, the monuments and the Smithsonian museums. Another rare privilege this year was the opportunity for four students to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery. In order to be chosen for this honor, students need to write an essay. This year the El Rodeo group was blessed with good weather which isn’t always the case. Also every year Ms. Garratt tries to add something new. This year the Pentagon and a musical were added. When asked what his favorite part of the trip was Dillon Curtis enthusiastically said “the tour of Congress, the Pentagon and laying the wreath were definitely the highpoints.” Camyar Meshkaty agreed and thought “the Pentagon and Congress were the coolest.” The Washington trip is an ongoing El Rodeo tradition and is open to 8th graders with good conduct. If you are an 8th grader and are interested in participating, Ms. Garratt will give you all the details next September.

Disneyland’s New Trains By Jacky Elkouby

In an exc lus ive ceremony at Disneyland, hundreds of Disney “cast members” came together to show their love for one of the park’s original a t t r a c t i o n s : t h e Disneyland Railroad and to dedicate two new additional trains. Benchwarmers By

Camille Mandell

Jon Heder, David Spade, and Rob Schneider play in a m o v i e c a l l e d Benchwarmers. They play the role of three really dorky boys who are not very athletic. Nevertheless, they try to prove that they are athletic by being on a baseball team with other younger kids. When they were younger they would get picked on by kids in school because of how nerdy they looked and acted. The three boys go through major training for the baseball team in an effort to defeat all of the teams that made fun of them when they were younger in school. Part of their training involves going through obstacles, playing hot potato, and using baseball bats to hit mail boxes for their hand-eye coordination. This is a very funny film.

American Dreamz is a new satire on the top rated show American Idol. American Dreamz is a comedy about a faltering president (Dennis Quaid) , a self hating American Idol type judge (Hugh Grant), and a sunny contestant (Mandy Moore) on the hit show American Dreamz. This movie has many funny quirks such as a singing terrorist and a president who has never read a newspaper in his entire presidency. Razr Company Sued

By Justine Manesh

A former British Telecom engineer has announced that he had to take his former employers to court over brain damage he says was caused by his having to use a mobile phone known as the “Razr.” Stephen Corney, 39, said that he left BT last summer, but has been suffering from short-term memory loss which he says was caused by this mobile phone, which he had used for hours especially at his work. In addition to this problem, Corney said that around his ear also heated up during his mobile phone usage. After ending the phone call, he said he felt he had an insect trapped in his ear. Corney told reporters over the weekend that he planned to sue for an amount of 100,000 pounds ($160,000). Corney said that he worked for BT for about ten years, when he left with short-term memory loss.

Take the Lead By Tara Malekzadeh

Take the Lead is a new movie about dancing. Many people say it one of the most entertaining movies you well ever see. Take the Lead is about a man that wants to help a bunch poor children by dancing. In the beginning the children have absolutely no self-confidence or interest in dancing—until they see their teacher tango. Initially, learning to dance was difficult for the children. Eventually, however, they become very good at dancing and end up competing in New York City where they really perform like stars. This movie has drama and comedy. It’s definitely worth seeing. When you see Take the Lead you can’t sit still in your chair. You will want to start dancing!

The Advice Column Section of the Student News Dear Blabby

Answer: Anna Kananashvili

Dear Blabby, I am having trouble with my homework and I have

really bad grades. My parents get furious when I get bad grades on my report card. I do the best I can, but I can barely study because I have so many activities during the week and weekends. What should I do to bring my grades up?

- Bad Report Carder

Dear Blabby,

My mom doesn’t let me have a cell phone. How can I convince her to buy one for me?

- Without a Cell Phone

Dear Without a Cell Phone ~ Many moms think if their child wants a cell phone they first have to be responsible. You could take care of your younger siblings, take out the garbage, and help around the house. Another way is to do well at school and get good grades. Remember that you should repeat these good things so she starts to see how responsible you really are. You might then earn the right to have a cell phone.

~ Blabby

~ The Advice ~

Dear Bad Report Carder. ~ I think you should cut down on the activities during the week because school is a lot more important, but if all the activities you do during the week are so important you can make time in between. For instance while driving to the events you can study in the car. Another thing you could do is to get extra help from a teacher during lunch or nutrition, or you can get someone to study with. Make sure the person that you study with will take studying seriously and not play around. I hope you get your grades up…
