1 A Publicaon of the St. Louis Area Delta Gamma Alumnae Winter/Spring 2013 Volume 20, No. 2 A New Year and New Beginnings: Happy 2013! We hope 2013 is off to a great start! Hopefully by now all of you have received the email with a copy of the updated STL DG group directory. We appreciate your connued support as a member of the St .Louis alumnae chapter. 2012 was a year of transions for the Alumnae Group Execuve Board. Due to unfore- seen life changes and circumstances (I think we can all relate!) for a few of our officers we have had a few changes to our team throughout the year. We’d like to thank our membership for your paence and understanding during these mes. We promise that while life somemes takes over that your officers are constantly working hard behind the scenes to keep everything moving smoothly. Some of you have expressed a concern about a perceived lack of aendance at events and we would like to address this concern. In an ever changing world with different sets of responsibilies for our member- ship depending on careers, age, family needs, and more, the needs of our membership so too changes. Hopefully you’ve taken a look at the website to check out the upcoming events for the spring (if not, never fear it’s always on the website and will be listed further in this newsleer) and have noced that our events this spring are built to try and cater to these different stages and needs of all our lives. Some may feel more connected to WEE DEE GEES bringing the lile ones in your life (future legacies and an- chormen!) along on an alumnae experience during the day, others yet may feel more akin to the “Young Alumnae Group” (‘young’ by age or young at heart) and prefer aſter work or weekend events centrally located, some never miss a Hungry Hannahs get together and enjoy lunch once a month, and others yet (and some including members of those three groups) love going to the ‘tradional’ chapter events and meengs held once a month across the St. Louis area. Programming and chapter goals must begin to ad- dress the needs and busy, hecc lives of many of our members. We hope that you are able to find your ‘niche’ in the St. Louis Alumnae Group and we will all, of course, sll enjoy geng together at all chapter meengs (when our lives allow) and at special events like Founder’s Day where we are never more re- minded of what sisterhood can and should really mean. We will do our best to keep the website (www.stldeltagamma.com) and our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/dgstl) up to date and while this newsleer is stac the website and Facebook will have the latest news and informaon on chapter happenings, events and updates for our members. We encourage you to check out the planned events for this spring, including Founder’s Day April 6, and hope to see you at an event soon! ITB, St. Louis Delta Gamma Alumnae Execuve Board

A New Year and New Beginnings: Happy 2013!

We hope 2013 is off to a great start! Hopefully by now all of you have received the email with a copy of the updated STL DG group directory. We appreciate your continued support as a member of the St .Louis alumnae chapter. 2012 was a year of transitions for the Alumnae Group Executive Board. Due to unfore-seen life changes and circumstances (I think we can all relate!) for a few of our officers we have had a few changes to our team throughout the year. We’d like to thank our membership for your patience and understanding during these times. We promise that while life sometimes takes over that your officers are constantly working hard behind the scenes to keep everything moving smoothly.

Some of you have expressed a concern about a perceived lack of attendance at events and we would like to address this concern. In an ever changing world with different sets of responsibilities for our member-ship depending on careers, age, family needs, and more, the needs of our membership so too changes. Hopefully you’ve taken a look at the website to check out the upcoming events for the spring (if not, never fear it’s always on the website and will be listed further in this newsletter) and have noticed that our events this spring are built to try and cater to these different stages and needs of all our lives. Some may feel more connected to WEE DEE GEES bringing the little ones in your life (future legacies and an-chormen!) along on an alumnae experience during the day, others yet may feel more akin to the “Young Alumnae Group” (‘young’ by age or young at heart) and prefer after work or weekend events centrally located, some never miss a Hungry Hannahs get together and enjoy lunch once a month, and others yet (and some including members of those three groups) love going to the ‘traditional’ chapter events and meetings held once a month across the St. Louis area. Programming and chapter goals must begin to ad-dress the needs and busy, hectic lives of many of our members. We hope that you are able to find your ‘niche’ in the St. Louis Alumnae Group and we will all, of course, still enjoy getting together at all chapter meetings (when our lives allow) and at special events like Founder’s Day where we are never more re-minded of what sisterhood can and should really mean.

We will do our best to keep the website (www.stldeltagamma.com) and our Facebook page

(www.facebook.com/dgstl) up to date and while this newsletter is static the website and Facebook will

have the latest news and information on chapter happenings, events and updates for our members.

We encourage you to check out the planned events for this spring, including Founder’s Day April 6, and hope to see you at an event soon!

Proposed Slate for 2013-2015 Officers

All dues paying members should have received an email to vote on the proposed slate of officers for the 2013-2015

term. If you did not receive this email and feel that this was in error please contact Heather Backes at

[email protected]. Those dues paying members without email addresses were mailed ballots.

Be sure to vote, and comment if you would like, on the proposed slate before 5:00 p.m. on February 15, 2013.

Below is the text of the email vote:

There is only one member running for each office so the vote is just to accept/decline the listed

officers.

President- Blair Rudert – slated candidate

VP: Membership - Erin Doty Toohey – slated candidate

VP: Programming - Brit Royal – slated candidate

VP: Foundation- Amanda Henry

Discussion: Members have the opportunity to discuss the vote on the event stream on the webpage. This is your opportunity to

ask questions or post comments just as at a normal chapter meeting. If you would like to leave a comment/question - click "News

and Comments" on the email vote.

REMINDER—Voting Responses: Please remember this is not an event (even though it asks if you are attending). Please vote on

whether you approve this vote.

Yes = You vote to accept the officers.

No = You vote to not accept the officers.

Maybe = You abstain from this vote.

A majority vote elects. Currently there are 94 dues paying members. 48 total votes are needed to meet quorum. 87 members

have emails and 7 ballots will be mailed.

SHINING LIGHT TREE LOT

The 61st Shining Light Tree Lot raised over $37,000 for the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments! Hundreds of loyal customers came out for the time honored tradition of buying the family Christmas tree. Thanks to a committee of committed volunteers, including Delta Gamma alumnae, Kary Bachert (M), Anne Grossmann (M), Heather Backes (HH), Blair Rudert (Γ Ι) and Whitney (Sparks) Vredenburgh (AO). Many thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers for coming out to help at the lot in all the cold weather, and special thanks to our lead volunteers! Missed us this year? The lot will open again next November for the Holiday Season. Interested in being involved for the 2013 season? Contact Blair Rudert, Tree Lot Chair, at [email protected] to get involved.

FOUNDATION UPDATE

Kathryn Alore (ΒΞ)

VP: Foundation

We are in need of donations for the Study Bags program. This program allows us to be involved and support our

collegiate chapters directly, as well as serves as a fundraiser for our St. Louis Alumnae Scholarship program. Items such as

granola bars, pencils, oatmeal packages and any other fun items for our collegians are needed. Items can be brought to chap-

ter meetings or mailed to me.

We are collecting Silent Auction items for Founders Day 2013 and we would greatly appreciate your donations!

Please contact me with donations or questions about the Silent Auction! Thanks to all of the caring sisters who take just a

moment out of their schedules to support the Delta Gamma Foundation mission of Service for Sight in these simple ways!

As a reminder, we are ALWAYS collecting used eye glasses, Campbell’s soup labels and box tops from the Box Tops

for Education Program, which raises 10-cents per top for schools for the blind and visually impaired

(www.labelsforeducation.com!) These items are continuously collected at alumnae chapter meetings, or can be mailed to

Kathryn Alore, see directory for address.

Thanks to all of the caring sisters who take just a moment out of their schedules to support the Delta Gamma Foun-

dation mission of Service for Sight in these simple ways!

COLLUMNAE ANNOUNCEMENT!

Jody Bivens (AE)

Director of Collumnae

I am happy to announce the launch of the collegiate Career Series Discussions. This panel style discussion connects the

local chapters with us—alums who share wisdom about their chosen field(s) of work. This past semester we held three

Discussions, two at SLU and one at Wash U, covering a variety of careers from nursing and education to marketing and law

and becoming and entrepreneur. A big thank you to Ellie Hock (ΗΘ), Maggie Wichmann (AE), Sara Haluf, Christine Holladay

(AE) and Elizabeth Morrison (T) for volunteering their time to talk to the chapters, making the start of the Career Series a

success! The chapters really appreciated this new program, and they would like to keep the ball rolling by hearing about

YOUR career! So, if you would like to participate in the next Career Series Discussion please contact me at

[email protected] or 480-414-5090. Thank You!

P.S. If you can think of a cute DG-tastic name for this new series, I am all ears!
