PWD Construction Seminar For Contractors Bidding on Green Stormwater Infrastructure Projects The Philadelphia Water Department will be hosting the first in a series of construction seminars beginning in January. The seminars will be designed to provide important information to contractors about PWD’s green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) contracting opportunities. Over the next two decades, PWD will be investing approximately $2 billion to meet the city’s ambitious Green City, Clean Waters goals. The seminars are highly recommended to all contractors that are interested in bidding on GSI projects. The targeted audience for the seminars is the contractor foreman, superintendent and/or owner. The January seminar will cover: • Review of completed GSI projects to illustrate design intent and function and construction challenges • Construction work in the public right of way and on properties (schools, parks and rec centers, public properties) • Preview of the soon to be released Green Streets Manual • Site management, OEO issues, Procurement coordination, spec updates Please contact Janira Barroso at [email protected] for information on the January seminar. PWD’s Commitment PWD has taken great strides towards creating equitable contracting opportunities for minority, women and or disabled- owned (MWDSBE) businesses. We are now implementing our new Participation Plan, which aims to provide meaningful economic opportunities for all Philadelphians by recruiting, preparing, and maintaining a reserve of local MWDSBEs with capacities and skill sets conducive to their participation as contractors and/or subcontractors on PWD projects. PWD is pleased to announce that $65 million dollars was committed to local and MWDSBE businesses in Fiscal Year 2013. That amount represents 26% of PWD’s overall contract awards for the fiscal year. As PWD approaches mid-year of FY14, we are placing greater emphasis on helping disadvantaged businesses thrive and grow by connecting them to resource partners. This quarterly newsletter will highlight current initiatives of our partners, showcase successful contracting examples, and provide an events calendar to keep businesses aware of upcoming opportunities. PWD’s Commitment

PWD has taken great strides towards creating equitable contracting opportunities for minority, women and or disabled- owned (MWDSBE) businesses.

Proposed Upcoming Opportunities

Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Industry Partnership

The Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Partners is an initiative designed to advance locally-owned businesses in the green stormwater infrastructure industry by capitalizing on heavy local investment in GSI. The program is creating a forum for these businesses to connect, learn, and access resources, while also advancing the industry and the policies surrounding it.

GSI Partners will be holding a briefing co-hosted by Liberty Property Trust, PIDC, and the GSI Partners on December 10th. Representatives from Liberty and PIDC will share upcoming developments that will need on-site stormwater management. The briefing will be followed by a meet-and-greet giving all attendees the opportunity to get to know one another and build better professional and personal relationships.

For more information about this December 10th briefing, or about becoming a GSI Partner, contact Anna Shipp, Project Manager, at [email protected].
