The Academy of Lifelong Learning is a new initiative unique to RCGC to facilitate education, workforce development and personal enrichment to individuals who are at least 50 years of age. It is supported in part by the American Association of Community Colleges’ Plus Encore Completion Program.

For an annual fee of $90, individuals will receive an all-access membership with benefits at the college.

The Plus 50 Encore Completion Program is a national effort put forth by the AACC to retain more than 10,000 baby boomers for new positions in health care, education and social service industries. This grant-funded educational opportunity allows returning students to select from professional-development certificate courses of study.

Career PlanningRowan College at Gloucester County’s Plus 50 Encore Completion program offers career planning services specifically for individuals who are at least 50 years of age and older. Located on campus, the Career and Academic Planning (CAP) Center maintains a number of resources to help individuals with resume writing, interviewing, dressing for success, navigating the job hunt, selecting academic majors and more. More Picasa This course looks to refine the photo editing skills obtained in Intro. to Picasa. Students learn how to download photos from their cameras into Picasa as well as apply techniques and editing software to make their photos look “picture perfect.” Students must bring their camera, photos and flash drive to class. Self-Massage for Chronic Knee Pain

Self-massage is a researched-based technique that reduces knee pain. Students who have chronic knee pain or arthritis discover this safe, effective and convenient method of alternative medicine. An instructor demonstrates this self-massage technique, in which students practice kneading their quadriceps muscles while seated in a chair. Participants also explore other simple self- care techniques in this interactive and dynamic class. Students are encouraged to wear shorts or loose-fitting clothing that has easy access to the thigh. Explore the Gift of LifeSince 1974, the Gift of Life has worked to coordinate life-saving and life-threatening transplants for ailing individuals while also supporting the generous donors and their families. Participants hear awe-inspiring stories from recipients and donors and discover the top 10 myths about organ and tissue donation. Those in attendance receive an overview of the transplant process and explore how various religions approve and support donation. Getting to Know Your TabletThis class is for individuals who recently purchased an iPad or tablet and want to make the most of their device. Explore the Gift of LifeSince 1974, the Gift of Life has worked to coordinate life-saving and life-threatening transplants for ailing individuals while also supporting the generous donors and their families. Participants hear awe-inspiring stories from recipients and donors and discover the top 10 myths about organ and tissue donation. Those in attendance receive an overview of the transplant process and explore how various religions approve and support donation. Tai Chi for Health & ArthritisTai Chi increases energy and improves quality of life through gentle exercises.
